Could not read text of definitions bc text was TOO SMALL and couldn't find a way to adjust size in settings! Searched in HELP section; found no suggestions of assistance! Finally chose a random word, and in definition started tapping icons. Eventually tapped icon of an "A" in a box and a sliding adjustment scale appeared. Once the text size iwas set, it was used for further chosen words until I tapped the boxed A again and selected a new size. GAVE ALL THIS INFO FOR OTHER USERS!!
I love the American Heritage Dictionary! I have the $60 edition and the hardcover portable one. Those are NOT digital! Actually, I have a subscription to "The Failing" New York Times and I do NOT use the digital version! On the go, I carry the portable AHD with me everyday! I write poetry and it is extremely useful for my purposes in writing poetry! I just wish there was no additional cost of $19.99 for an enhanced version? I cannot afford it. ☹️. Best American dictionary BAR-NONE!
Way overpriced, constant push notifications to buy "at a discount" of $10. I can buy the actual dictionary at a used book store for $4. The free version doesn't let you use most of the features but the full version is overpriced.
Best Dictionary! Have always loved American Heritage dictionary and years ago, the encyclopedia. AH is the best at providing word origins and usage information. The interface in this app is simple and functional. Once I figured out how to set it as default, I am a very happy user!
As always, since way back 20-60 years, this dictionary is what I carry w me to work, college, suggest to tutorees to add in book and app form as well as 'Strunk, Jr. & E.B. White grammar book = small & thin, $12.95 but listed by most teachers & stores. Grammer to texting meld. I also suggest a Thesaurus on both. It helps broaden your internal and external correct vocabulary. *Then it is your option but you have help if others are gradiing your compliance to variance from strict expectations.*
Needs a more flexible licensing model. $20 is a lot upfront for an app. Making certain features available at lower prices would allow users to take advantage of promo codes that are available for lower price points.
American Heritage has always been the go-to dictionary for full definitions that include FULL derivations of the word roots. AH is the definitive source reference to gain a deep knowledge and command of the English language and its richness and breadth. The definitions in the mobile app include a hyperlink to the Indo-european (IE) roots where you can discover the gems that give English and other IE languages their character. This is a world-class reference app. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED.
An authoritative dictionary now in our hands, with full and exact explanations and abundance of knowledge and (re)sources. I haven't regretted the purchase of this handy and useful dictionary at all. Well done!!!
Since 1973, the American Heritage English Dictionary has been my favorite dictionary, recommended by an English professor in college. Happy to have found this app! Thank you.
Excellent App! It is more friendly than the Merriam-Webster's for an English learner. I like it so much! But what is the difference between this fullly paid free version and the Plus version? Could anyone please explain it to me? I am really confused about that.
Uninstalled on the same day it was installed - too slow (never did get a single definition), too many hoops to jump thru. I wonder if that's intentional to motivate users to buy a more expensive version? Don't care anymore.
This app is not helpful at all. Webster dictionary is so much more helpful. You can hardly do anything on this one without going premium. It will give you the definition but it does not give you synonyms or some of the other stuff. I do not like this app, Uninstalling.
Not bad for free. I have the paid for Shorter OED and Chambers online dictionaries which obviously are better, but this is fairly good for general daily use. Worrying, though, that one of your advertising images shows many pages of this dictionary headed 'American Herritage' (sic).... 😂
This app is garbage! I switched phones and couldn’t restore my purchase on my new device. Google hasn’t responded to my inquiry to fix the issue after two weeks of waiting. Do yourself a favor and bypass this trash, $20 down the drain.
This is my "GO TO DICTIONARY." I love how it is so easily accessible it is. It aids one when reading or speaking a difficult word or great to use when building up your vocabulary.
This app is handy and easy to use. A new word everyday, challenging quizzes and fun helpful vocabulary info. like old slang swear words from way back.
An excellent dictionary but the user interface experience isn't the greatest. Thus far 5 stars just for the dictionary itself, not the app especially.
The different kind of a dictionary was American Heritage English Free is different way to more one of those words are featured in this app but it was different sciences to find out more about how to do within using book, articles, read, study, etc, write, paper or something like a search words on the keyboard or typewriter in Google Reader to easily keep up with a lot of words in dictionary.
AHD has very valuable information on derivations, the origins of a word. It often gives me a better picture of how it has come to its modern meaning, and a richer understanding of what that word really means.
A.H.D is definitely one of my most favorite DICTIONARIES. it's loaded with information. rapid response, my $20 was well spent, American Heritage Dictionary is one of the best dictionaries available.
Like it, but would be nice if the search text field were easier to select from the home screen.
Good Solid Dictionary, Easy to use and understand meanings of words, for your knowledge or writing skills to choose the right word. Recommended.
I I AM ABSOLUTELY HATE THE BAIT AND SWITCH TACTICS GOOGLE LAY STORE adllows both companies and developers to advertise their apps as FREE when they really aren't. They should be advertised as a paid app with a 3-day trial period. The word FREE shouldn't appear the title or description of the app.
It states the syllables and accents of American English as complete / correct. It would be nice if he could do the dubbing for free.
Make it easy to navigate, love the microphone to navigate and directly find the meaning to the words I am searching for.
I love everything about this dictionary!! I have been using the AHD for many years. So happy I found the application version... excellent job!
Great app to learn formal🇺🇸 American English. In this age of Capitalism/Maximum Profits it's hard to find such a useful resource at such low price. Worth every penny if used properly every penny spent today on it can be converted into GOLD⏳⌛🛎♻️ over time. Thankyou the creator of this app.✌💎🍾🥂🦋
This app needs tweaking because it sometimes stalls a longer than usual while searching for a word or a synonym. This would be my only complaint.
Android "Q": click the "search" icon, and nothing happens -- no search box, no keyboard to type in query. Thanks Google!
AHD app adequately fits my needs because it has huge number of entries that are defined with words that fits the curiousity of intermediate to advanced English readers/learners. Second, you can easily increase the size of the words with your two fingers, which is an important feature for readers with vision difficulties. I love the AHD and I use it almost daily. Thank you.
