Antox

Communication with messages, audio & video calls are functional and completly working. Sending and receiving files is still experimental and needs some time to be polished but for now it crashes if you try to send or receive a file most of the time. As I'm told groups aren't supported yet which is sad but I believe that will be added soon. Thanks for the work you do you are breathtaking.

It is a great app, but very basic. I wish it had voice record, ability to reply to specific messages, and send a file through my external SD card. Also, a lot of times the program crashes. Otherwise, if these things get implemented, especially being able to record voice messages and ability to send any file from external media, I would rate it 5-star.

Won't allow use without enabling microphone and camera access This is a red flag for anyone concerned about communications security (which is the whole point of this app). I know that this is only the alpha version, but throwing users a bone here would be a great help for generating interest in your service. The direct, P2P nature of this app is promising, but the mandatory permissions are a deal breaker. I'll give this another shot at a later date, but for now I'm not thrilled about it.

Like the other review, I'm not really happy with allowing the permissions for audio, pictures/video and microphone, but they won't let you use the app otherwise. Other than that, if it'd support swiftkey or swype-style keyboard, then it'd be perfect.

I'm a fan of tox but I'm very disappointed about this app. I won't delete it but they have to fix followings; 1. Video call from android to another android device failed and program stopped. Both have Antox installed. 2. Video call from qTox to Antox, a few seconds the video was succesful for qTox but failed on Android Antox. I hope that it's fixed in a short time.

As an app, this needs some polish still. I know this is open source and a labour of love; I don't mean to nitpick, but I need to be honest. Scrolling glitched out sometimes, and trying to open a picture crashed the app for me. These are basic UI/chat functions, so it really does need some polish. Still, I'm excited by the potential.

Thank you for this app! However the video calling is slow and is often disconnected by itself. Sending photos is too complicated. I have to be online to receive the photo sending request, or it just disappears. I appreciate this app and definitely there is a lot of room to improve. Hoping for an update!

Can not use android 'share' to share a photo when you are viewing it. Have to go to Antox to attach it, but no thumb view provided, so its hard to find right photo to send. Also, error to use camera send inside Antox. It's open source project, so still very thankful for this. Hope it could be improved in future.

The app is outdated, but functional. mostly. The permissions are fine, something fishy would happen if it asked for Calendar, or Call log, but it does not. I recommend you use an alternative, but it works okay.

Although buggy and stuff not working, I really appreciate the developers for making a free, safe and easy to use program which lets everyone call or message each other without anyone else being able to watch us. This is an amazing app already and I look forward to more features such as groups and and other things working. Features I think Devs should add: (I know groups are already being worked on) Screen sharing

This App has been very helpful in many ways of communicating anonymously with a trans girl I had for an amazing moment, but I really don't like the fact that it's video system glitches a lot of times and the quality of calling is just so poor with this app. The app doesn't even have a user-friendly interface neither does it have a capability to actually keep the conversation going since it makes the internet glitch most times; I don't recommend this app for anyone.

I really like the tox prptocal and would like to see a functional app implementation. But so buggy... I some friendds do not see my friend requests and i dont see theirs; app crashes whenevver i try to open aa picture.. random crashes

I agree with the others: don't demand permissions! Also, simplest file transfers typically fail! If you have a perfect connection then transfers succeed. that's not good enough! FAIL! GARBAGE! The app should not be on the store!

Video call is buggy, video was corrupt, turned on wifi and my phone crashed and restarted, never seen anything like that from an app... group chat not implemented, this should be in beta channel its not ready. File transfer on LAN, maxing out at 300kiB/s

Secure messaging that demands non messaging features to function. It totally makes sense that it can't text message people without camera and file access. Yup. nothing suspicious there.

The app sounds good but I'm not prepared to give it all of the permissions it asks for. It then refuses to work without access to my camera, files and phone.

Not installed or used yet, but have researched the different clients for the Tox Project under windows , Linux & FreeBSD previously, I thought it appropriate to comment. With regards to permissions: Being a client for the server. This is a secure messaging app that has the ability to do video (mic for audio & camera for video). Other than this the permissions make compleat sense & are in line with the other clients I've looked at. Being open source I recommend looking at the website

No update since 2018. Antox does not allow enclosure if video files. It should include the ability to auto answer for incoming calls.

why do you aks for all these permissions... a secure app that require file access / microphone to be launched it is really sad. I just want to be able to send a revieve text. couldn't event lauch the app.

Great app tgat largely works fine, even when the phone is in standby, inly issue in having is my galaxy 5 screen and soft buttons flash randomly when on voice call - call unaffected. On the round a fantastic alternative to Skype

I am having a problem, just got the app but it seems as my keyboard wants to type in all capital letters. It is the only app that keeps trying to do that despite me constantly changing to lower case. How do I fix this?

Actually pretty good for now. I can talk, message, did not test the video. It's a bit more complex to set a contact than what I was used to, but I guess this is a reasonable price to pay for greater security. Good luck!

wont work without being given intrusive permissions. Wouldnt work right off the bat even having gotten the permissions either - friend requests never reach the other party, neither calls nor messages

The only missing feature is an off-line mode. or push notification like Jami. If not on line messages are not delivered than, and if you are not online, no notification or background activity alert you about.

Will not run without excessive and dangerous permissions. I don't want audio, video, or media sharing, and a "secure" chat app shouldn't try to force them on me.

When typing a message it forces caps lock to stay on. Doesnt happen in the contact search bar or any other app I have.. very annoying.

Messaging - ok. Calls not tested. File transfer from qTox to antox - ok. Transfer files from Antox to qTox: can't select file from sd card, can't select file from gallery if album on sd card, can't select multiple files. So, file transfer from Antox not completed.

I love the idea of the secure p2p messenger, but there are too many cons in the app and the biggest one is that the messenger needs to have ...peers. But nobody from my contacts are using tox. So the app is actually useless.
