APCC by ASPCA

Products that may seem safe in your home and garden can actually be toxic for pets, and all too often pets are poisoned as a result of their natural curiosity. That’s why the American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals – the country’s first animal welfare organization and a leading voice for animals -
- has launched the APCC by ASPCA App.Focusing on dogs, cats, horses, and birds, the free app helps owners quickly and accurately identify and understand common household hazards, toxic and non-toxic plants, potentially harmful medications, as well as warm or cold weather hazards. It also provides crucial information about the severity of the problem and critical next steps.Information in the app comes from expert toxicologists at the ASPCA’s Animal Poison Control Center, which handles more than 180,000 cases each year of pets exposed to potentially toxic substances. APCC by ASPCA Features
- A searchable database of hundreds of plants, household hazards, medications, warm weather toxins and cold weather toxins commonly found in or around homes
- Details for each toxin including: scientific name, alternate names, example images, severity of exposure, and potential symptoms for at-risk dogs, cats, horses, and birds
- Color-coding to help you identify the toxins of most concern
- Dogs and chocolate poison meter
- Built-in rodent poison calculator
- One-touch speed-dialing to the ASPCA Animal Poison Control CenterAs the weather improves, this app is a vital tool for pet owners shopping for new houseplants or garden additions. But all pet parents should download the APCC by ASPCA app to keep their animals safe and far from harm. Please note that the information is not meant to be all-inclusive, but rather a compilation of the most frequently encountered toxins. As always, if you suspect your pet may have ingested a poisonous substance, contact your local veterinarian or the ASPCA Animal Poison Control Center immediately.

It had a lot of potential, bit there's not many things listed and a lot are not listed by their common names. Also, there aren't any recommendations on how to treat your pet at home, just that you should of it's mild. Also it gives the warning that the app is outdated when you try to use it. It does require some updating, then it would be a great resource

This could be a great app. The lists are incomplete when compared to what is found on the ASPCA website. We should be able to find substances by their common names. I shouldn't have to know a plant's scientific name, or a cleaning product's chemical name to look it up in this app! I might as well just do a good ole google search.

Excellent app with important information and easy navigation. Easy to understand for clients/pet parents also. Needs more detailed information and needs a software update for more recent phones.

Terrible app. Has barely anything in the way of plants. Needs to have a much larger database, especially if it's from a "reputable" source!

I wanted to like this app but it has been useless to me. I looked up lavender under the cat section and nothing was listed. Lavender is a very common aromatherapy oil. I tried a few other common plants and none were in the list. It doesn't make sense.

Awful. Horrible interface. Doesn't identify anything for our dog. Hasn't been updated since 2014.

Not updated per message on app so will not work correctly on my note 8. Incomplete list of items.

Good app idea, bad implementation. Lacks information and leads patients to call in to charge the fee.

Most of the information on here can literally be easily found on Google. Pointless app

Clunky, hard to use, looks like it hasn't been updated in years

Seems good but plant list is really poor, at least for UK common plants anyway.

Handy as a quick reference, but if in doubt, call your vet.

barely anything listed. has potential if filled in better.

Where's the list of food? There's only maybe like 20 items? This is kind of a joke.

Who actually knows all of these scientific names!? There are hundreds of things that are toxic to just dogs that are NOT on these lists....this app definitely needs work

Kev. L. Dec 22, 2019

Useless. They have so few plants listed I cannot find any of the common house plants.

Best app in its class. Well organized, easy to use app. Thanks for educating pet owners of so many commom dangers that are commomly overlooked but mostly not even known. Vets should step up and start educating, not any of the vets i have ever visited has ever given this info. Bravo, keep up the excelent work and thank you.

I'm adopting a cat and have searched the web looking for safe plants and household hazards. I found this app on the ASPC website. I have numerous plants but I don't know what they are called. Poor pictures or no pictures at all and only a few are listed. It was even worse for household chemicals. I think in this respect this app is dangerous if in crisis and used as a go to resource. Please provide links, more complete descriptions, like listing ACETONE And only showing a plastic bottle helps no one.

This app has a lot of very useful information, but the navigation could use some improvement. For instance, let's say my dog ate a tea bag. If I search for "tea", I get only "tea tree oil". I would have to know that tea is Camellia sinensis, and that I need to look in the Plants category, not Food. Also, if I am just browsing through the hazards, the scientific name is given, but the common name usually isn't. For instance, a lot of people don't know that ibuprofen is commonly known as Advil, naproxen sodium is Aleve, and that sodium hypochlorite is laundry bleach. Common names should be listed for all entries.

The list of poisonous plants on this app is extremely short compared to what is available on the ASPCA website. Quite disappointing. I don't trust the list because it's not through, and I'm just going to have to use the website.

Nice app! It isn't totally comprehensive, but I imagine that more poisonous items will be added over time.

This app is a very helpful tool for anyone who loves there furry companions. I only wish to see it with additional animal species.
