The app looked good at first the best thing to get me off my phone for while but a lot of the services require you to subscribe. I tried to subscribe monthly which is £4.99 but the app gave me a message that said error with payment and didn't start my subscription. I tried it again and I had the same result. Two minutes later I see in my account that the app took £4.99 two times even though I didn't get my subscription. Edit: Google play gave me my money back. But the error is still there.
So far, OK. This app seems to do what I want it to, I can set profiles to block apps at certain times of the day. Far too many features require a subscription, which I'm not paying while I try out the app, especially at those prices! Using an alternative. Edit: not expecting the app for free, but do expect to be able to test the app properly to decide whether its worth the prices, there's too many useless apps out there. Also a subscription is not reasonable.
When it works, it works, and gotta admit this works very well. It's an easy to set up system that blocks the apps and sites you designate that automatically turns on and off according to your schedule. It does show the occasional ad when you get blocked during those off times, but you can immediately exit it, and all the more punishment for trying to procrastinate, right? But here I am procrastinating by writing this review, back to work!
It's been amazing for helping me reclaim my time. I'm reading more, and most importantly it has dramatically lessened the time I spend "doom scrolling", which, in turn, has lessened my general anxiety. I had to unexpectedly add @m@zon to my blocked list, because without social media, I had started shopping as entertainment.
Exactly what I was looking for, I always needed a custom profile for my apps to schedule when and how many times I can open a certain app or website. You need to exclude this app from you battery saving list otherwise it won't work properly. I gave this app so many accessibility permissions, hopefully they don't misuse them. I am trusting you guys.
Going to have to uninstall this, as it doesn't really do what it says on the tin! At least, not on my Android 7 it doesn't. It keeps stopping!! 🙄 No matter how many times I go back to Accessibility or Battery Settings. 👎 App developers: you have to make Android stop stopping your apps! 😡
Pretty good overall but with one serious problem. If you turn on strict mode in order to not allow modifying AppBlock or the app you're controlling it prevents you from updating or modifying ANY apps. So if you have the blocking schedule on all the time for a single app you just can't update apps anymore.
Randomly stops website blocking. I have to turn it back on every day when I realise I'm over the time limit. Similar with applications though they seem blocked in the app but when i try to open them it won't deny access. I wish it worked, but it's almost useless like this. Two stars because I really like the design and would love it if it did what it promises. edit: thanks for the reply, I updated it, it's perfect now :)
Can't be bothered to pay a subscription for this. Seriously, the deveopers could have made $15 from me; instead they got greedy via there subscription model. I sure don't want another periodic bill to go along with everything else; for this app a lump sum option should be provided. It's not, however, so I'll look through the app store and likely get the same functionality for free (without ads). To be fair this app has easy scheduling and multiple blocking methods from which to choose.
Good but crackable: if I have strictest mode activated, I can deactivate it at any time by turning on ultra battery saver then turning it back off. Very frustrating, given I need an uncrackable app so I don't play problematic phone games (and I paid hefty money for Appblock on 2 phones). **Update in response to developer: happy to give more stars if my $50 is refunded, given that I purchased based on incorrect advertised statement that strict mode would prevent me from uninstalling the app.
only had it a month or so but really enjoy the strict feature. very helpful at alerting me to mindless phone use...and restricting me when need be. I do not, however, try to circumvent it, so I can't really speak to its ability to stop you from getting to an app if you want to badly enough.
Useless. Even the premium described is basic. Makes you manually enter everything you want to block. In some cases, that would be hundreds (social media anyone?). There are free apps that block multiple websites or apps with the press of one button. Use those.
Does precisely what it says it does and what I need it to do, with no huge intrusive ads. It's proving to be essential in my fight to "get sober" from social media. App setup can be a little bit scary since my phone gives me big warnings about granting certain admin permissions, but the app is very clear about why it's asking for those permissions and, again, the app does what it says it does. 10/10 highly recommend for fellow social media addicts trying to get clean.
Great app, saved me tons of time. However, I recently discovered that all its thoughtful design to prevent people bypassing strict mode can be negated if you just boot into safe mode. I'd like to see that addressed in the future if possible.
The App can't provide service For which We are paying. AppBlock Was great till I figured out I can easily disable Strict mode which earlier shown by AppBlock team by my request through Email. Now I can find out disabling strict mode by few tries. Now AppBlock is useless for me. I Emailed for same issue and Informed AppBlock team but no response. I think there is not such a thing like Customer care in this company. Be careful New People.
Great and very helpful. I especially appreciate strict mode, how multi-purpose the profile system is, and how reasonably priced premium is. Though the bug on Android (where the app will spontaneously lose privileges) is annoying, it's not really worth docking a star.
i wanted an app where I could block social media apps during work hours but allow myself to use them during off hours. Most apps were too easy to bypass (built-in screen time apps) or didn't allow for windows of time to be set. This is exactly what I had been looking for.
EDIT: PSA: to just block apps for a set time Digital Wellbeing is already on your phone for free. REVIEW: I'm happy to pay for the right app, but not without a chance to try it. I just need to block select apps while I sleep. 3 apps? Useless. No timer? Useless. I wasted 30 minutes granting permissions, etc. only to learn I can't even try basic functions. Sick of this nonsense. Give me a FULL access trial so I can judge your product. Then you might get my $, although I don't do subscriptions.
It's great, except for one big flaw.. all I have to do is uninstall the app if I want to give in to temptation. If I could easily control my habits I wouldn't need a blocker. Is there a feature I'm missing or an update possible to make uninstalling impossible?? I'd give this app 5 stars or even purchase the full version if this bypass could be fixed.
The best website blocking app I've used so far. I can set custom times for blocking and have different profiles for different apps or websites. It offers all of the flexibility and customization you would ever want from a blocker app. The premium version is a easy purchase if you are need to control your phone habits. I would buy premium if I had deeper website and app blocking needs. Five stars. 😁
It does what it's supposed to do very well. My favorite feature is Quick Block, which helps me stop procrastinating immediately. I highly recommend it to folks trying to reduce how much idle time they spend on their phones.
Great app. A useful tip for everyone and AppBlock to retain users. Please remove AppBlock from Battery Optimization or else the accessibility option can get disabled automatically and the app can't prevent opening of apps/websites. AppBlock, please mention this on your app so that people don't uninstall it in frustration.
It's a great app with great functions, but there's a problem I am facing which is partially my own fault. I activated strict mode level 3, and there was absolutely no way out.. 48 hours I wasn't able to do anything on my phone, couldn't open settings, I asked for support - no response, tried googling for a solution -found nothing. There is no way you can get rid of the app or I should say gain back control.
The accessibility permission keeps getting revoked and the blocking stops working randomly. I have to approve it again and again for the app to work properly. Please provide a way to fix this. I need it badly.
App seems great but unfortunately doesn't work with work profiles on Android 11 due to error/limitation that "Notification access is not available for apps in the work profile". Pity as it would be perfect for silencing work apps outside of working hours.
I love everything about this app except for one fatal flaw, no password option, it locks with a 4-digit pin. I'd like to choose a complicated random password, That way I can write the password down and put it somewhere that's inconvenient enough to keep me from disabling the app in 10 seconds like I can with a pin. I'm no programmer, but I can't imagine this being a difficult feature to add. Add a password lock option, and this is a 5-star app for sure.
