This app is absolutely pointless. it has to be plugged up through the USB cable and It can't be ran in the background for most devices, and it just mirrors whats on the screen. so when I press the button to lock my phone it disappears from the in-Dash screen also. for all that I could use my phone instead of having the same thing displayed on another screen. I figure it would connect through bluetooth then I can put my phone down and solely control the features it have from the Dash.
It used to work more or less, but somewhere down the line things got updated and now this app is just an annoying waste of space and notification pusher. It demands you change to Pioneer's own keyboard, fails to stream the phone's display to the radio screen and crashes all the time. The software simply does not work anymore. I will be staying away from Pioneer products for now.
Worst app I've ever seen, not intuitive, bugs me all the time now that I've deleted it, to reinstall it. It is the only app you can use With the Pioneer radio. Back to using bluetooth to radio and my phone for GPS. Samsung Galaxy Note 8, so not an old phone. Andriod Auto is much better. it doesn't broadcast to the radio screen, but does all of the rest and is much better without all the hassle.
I can't get text messages to work consistently. For a while it would read messages to me and I could voice reply. Now it does the sit and spin routine. Music works, but sometimes crashes mid song and I wind up having to reboot my phone. Navigation has been solid. I hope they fix these quirks.
Worst app ever, this would have to be my 2nd app rating, I never bother with it but this app takes the cake! Installed it, now it crashes Android Auto whenever I unlock my phone whilst connected, having to lock and unlock the phone again for Android Auto to reconnect. Even uninstalling appradio and all the other rubbish associated with it still doesn't remove its strangle hold over Android Auto. Short of reflashing my phone, even defaulting the head unit doesn't remove its popup. Unhappy!
Aside from the fact that the app is useless and I deleted it a year ago, I still can't get the damn lingering effects off my phone. It still gives me pop up screens and interrupts everything I do when I'm in my car, EVEN THOUGH I UNINSTALLED IT! There aren't enough cuss words for this app.
Update on 7/24/2020 I have finally given up on this app, and on Pioneer. This app never worked properly. After updating my phone to Samsung Galaxy S20+, it stopped mirroring. The latest version of the app is supposed to be updated for Android 10, but it still didn't work. I have now ripped the Pioneer radio out of my car, installed a Kenwood and have been using it with Android Auto (flawlessly).
This just does not work.... had a previous pioneer that worked on android auto.... faultless... this sham... nothing loads, wont recognise even my bluetooth music or spotify. No extra app downloads work with it even though they say they are comparable. Wont show maps on screen AND play music at the same time.... absolute waste of money adding this whole software to an alrwady working system and why... cos things cost on this one
Waste of a good idea. Doesn't support any media apps, doesn't tie into mobile nav apps, has to have the phone screen on in order to use the nav it does support, appears outs dated as if it was developed for first gen mobile devices, continually crashes. This app needs a complete overhaul and massive amount of reworking and updating.
This keeps popping up on my screen telling me that this app has stopped. Right in the middle of me trying to send inportant emails n some times I hit the send feed back n then it screws me up big time cause it continues to do this several time. Already did feedback It popped up 6 time just while writing this. Oh man this is so frustrating you don't even know. I'm uninstalling n for now i guess I won't connect my phone to the stereo. everyone you can once again use this app to connect to waze and other apps. I'm on a s8 plus . it updated from oreo android 8 to pie Android 9 this week. i then updated my avh-x7800bt to latest firmware from February 2019. Boom app radio and waze popped up on the screen. I had just about given up on this radio. haven't been able to use these features for almost a year now. something in the update did it everyone give it a try.
Completely ridiculous. I paid $300 for a headunit that doesn't have all the functions because this app is garbage. I can't use navigation while listening to the radio, pandora isn't an option to use in the app so that isn't an option. The only music options in app are garbage channels that no ones ever heard of. Really disappointed in my purchase due to Pioneer using a terrible company for app development. I contacted pioneer directly, weeks ago, and nothing's come of it.
Had it installed for 2 or 3 days. The constant notifications and massive battery drain is beyond belief. Why should my phone try to connect to my radio the entire 10 hours I am at work?? Couldn't find any settings to shut it off. Then, every time I got in my truck, it would ask questions I answered numerous times previously. Fix the app or give up
Waste of space, there is much better apps and I think it's foolhardy of pioneer not to work closely with other services. You have to change the keyboard and download other maps services to access this. I trust waze and Google, plus their apps work better universally. It's a waste of time
Very poor, intended to use with waze navigation app but this was withdrawn after a week, the apps that are compatible are not very good, and cost a fortune. In hindsight I should have paid more for a non pioneer product, what I am left with is worse than useless.
I don't need it anymore. It was an okay app, it did connect my phone but nothing else, but that's my own fault the radio was installed horribly and barely functioned. But we got a new car with a nice radio, it crashes often but otherwise it's pretty good.
Total garbage. Who the hell checks their calendar or photos while driving??? What I NEED is Google maps, but, NOPE, that apparently is not an optiom. Amazon music would be nice also, but, again, it's not happening. This is garbage software. I will NEVER buy another Pioneer product. NEVER.
I can't fathom how in 2018 this app could still be this bad. How has it NEVER been improved upon? It still only works with a select few android devices and when it does "work" it's useless. So much could be done here and should be. These head units aren't cheap some go for upwards of a grand. Pioneer, spend 6 months on this app and make it great, make it compatible, make people talk about it and it will sell radios for you. I check back in on this app about once every 6 months and have for years and it is still awful. Very very sad. Pioneer was once a great company and I was very proud to have the name in car or home. But they are slowly fading away :(
App runs in background and always closes and pushes notification every 10 minutes even while not using and away from vehicle. Paid good money for a new pioneer reciever to use android play and head unit is capable of doing what I want it to but cannot because of this garbage app. It isn't even approved by Google market so it won't allow me to use Google to login to my YouTube account to link to appradio. Garbage app that ruins the entire pioneer android play experience.
Recently started crashing. I don't always drive the vehicle it connects with, so I don't know if it affects how it works. Irritating because of the continuous error messages. Worked fine up until about a month ago. Sprint Galaxy S8+
Keeps.crashing. This.used to be a good app. NOT ANYMORE. Lots of.reviews like mine. Pioneer and google need to fix this issue. Lots of us are not getting the product we paid for. Music plays for.10 seconds then shows a message saying "google music has stopped. Updating the head unit does not help. I am.switching to apple products now. Its.a.shame that a huge multinational company will not address an obvious issue affecting many many customers. Maybe a CLASS ACTION SUIT would get thier attemtion
AppRadio is completely worthless and utterly useless. This app is a nuisance and pops up every time I connect my phone to the stereo. Even after deleting it I'm still pestered with a prompt to reinstall it. It's almost like it was designed in 1990 and is not compatible with anything modern. Totally disappointed in Pioneer's decision to use this as it's program.
