Appy Weather: the most personal weather app

I've been using the app for about 2 years now. When I first downloaded I had a few issues which I contacted the developer about and he was very responsive. My biggest issue is it's inconsistency with impending weather alerts. It's supposed to be pulling its data from Dark Sky but the weather alerts I receive about impending storms are hardly ever accurate. Half the time I receive a warning about snow or rain that's going to start in X minutes but they never occur. Decent app but needs some work.

One thing about this app bugs me. Let's say on a Tuesday the temperature will reach a high of 40 at 3pm but it was still 59 degrees for an hour at midnight before the cold front moves in. This app will say it's a high of 59 for the day on the 7 day forecast. That is misleading and can lead to an uncomfortable day because you brought a light jacket instead of the heavy one that you actually needed. Edit: thanks for the update! Looking forward to it

There is a whole lot to like about the app. I really like the detailed approach to its content and its customisable features and notifications (off by default, which is cool) and the data privacy policy is awesome. Hats off to the developers! Unfortunately the widget text-clipping in Android is a deal-breaker for me. I see that it is a known issue and being worked on so I have paid for one subscription cycle, but without a passable widget UI, I unsubscribed. Will check back later :)

I like the app. Eventhough I am a fan of serif fonts on paper, it looks odd on the display, especially an read. It would be great if there was an option to switch. Edit: thanks for the quick reply. The other options would be great too in addition to roboto. Another suggestion would be to add colours to the timeline. Yellow for sunny, white for snow, blue for rain. A glance would suffice in that case to say what's gonna happen next hour next days.

I really like the app and it could become my only weather app on my phone, but there is only one problem. The 'feels like' information does not seem to work. I am in Montreal and in the summer, humidity will make a big difference (a 25C can feel like a 33C). Same for winter. If this were fixed, i would get the Subscription and delete the Weather Network app 🙂.

Fantastic interface and awesome widgets. Just what I was looking for. Thank you! EDIT: After using the app for a few weeks, I've found my new favorite feature = the notification options. The one I found most useful are the "Reports" which send you a notification with a quick summary of today's weather first thing in the morning, as well as tomorrow's weather right before you go to bed. Love these quick, simple, and easy to understand notifications that definitely get me ready for the day. Upgraded to Pro subscription to support developer.

This looks to be a pretty solid weather app. I like the UI and it has become my default after Dark Sky ditched Android. I would say there are two things I would like to see changed. First, I would like to see the radar integrated into the app directly instead of redirected to a webpage. Second, I don't care for the bottom navigation bar. I do like bottom navigation, but I do not like the up and down scroll inside the bottom navigation. I feel that it is difficult to swipe correctly.

I love this app. The visuals are great, clean. The weather information are detailed and very easy to read. The app have a lot of info, including humidity, cloud cover, wind, gust, etc. and very intuitive radar. Also you have the possibility to choose between different weather providers. If you choose the Pro subscription plan you can have a very customizable notifications on all kind of weather info. You can customize the when the notification occur, if the value is above or below a given value.

It's good. It lays things out nice and simply and is probably the natural successor to Dark Sky once they shut down. I've upgraded to support them and the radar feature is disappointing. It doesn't show it natively in the app, instead it loads a web page. And there's no way to play the radar sequence like in other apps (weather pro, weather underground,). So yeah, it's good. But it needs work.

Shows you the weather information when you need it, in a visually appealing design. Lot of other weather apps bombard you with all unnessary information all at once, and it can make looking for what you need at that moment hard to find (and unpleasant to look at). For example, opening the Timeline shows detailed information about current weather conditions, and directly under that a "card" that shows conditions for the rest of the day graphically. Below that is another card that does the same for tomorrow in a clear and concise format. And rather than clutter the charts to show forecasts for each hour even though the temperature might be the same for the entire period -- that end up forcing you to scroll to see the rest of the day -- these chart summarize the period in a way only shows when there are increases or decreases, letting you see both the trends clearly. Brilliant! Even Dark Sky involved a lot of scrolling to see a single day's forecast (and only showed data every 2 hours anyway). Finally, the developer is extremely responsive and committed to future development of the app. So glad I found my new weather app. And great widgets too!

I was looking for a Dark Sky replacement and this is probably the closest thing I've found. I really like the UI (both in app and the widgets) and the weather is always accurate. My only gripe is that precipitation notifications are far too frequent (I had 10 in 2 hours today!) with no control over them beyond setting the probability/intensity threshold. I get notifications when precipitation is imminent, continuing, changing intensity, and ending... I only need to know when it's about to start!

This is a great app. Very user friendly and gives the user a lot of information. I am very happy with the ability to very easily see the current conditions, including wind, humidity and pressure. There is also a very useful graph to see the projected temp, feels like temp, and precipitation chances so it makes it much easier to plan some outdoor activities. It is nice to be able to choose between different weather sources. Another positive is I emailed the developer and he emailed me back very quickly with a response. It turns out that he had just released an update with what I was asking for so I updated and there it was. Looking forward to continuing improvements.

This app has the same issue that pretty much every weather app has and that is that they make it difficult to actually see the weather data. Yet another app that puts the visual experience ahead of the weather info. Screen is mostly blank space and overly large fonts. Also has a very short bar at the bottom of the screen that is scrollable. I've never seen this before, an oddly backwards design decision that doesn't work. The search continues.....

It's a beautiful weather app, that's for sure. However, it only offers a very high level idea of what the weather is and is expected to be. It lacks critical information such as expected snowfall accumulation. It is a good tool for getting a quick look at what to expect when one heads outside, but then again so is looking out a window. I could see this being insurable to folks in dense urban areas though.

Like many others, I've been looking for a Dark Sky replacement, and I think I found it in Appy Weather. For me, the widget that shows upcoming conditions is essential, and Appy's does what I need. The app's displays are clean and informative. And when I had a minor issue with upgrading to the paid options the developer responded almost instantly. Definitely recommended.

It's a good looking app. Simple, but informative. The biggest problem has to do with the widgets and the fact that they're terrible at updating. Many times I have to open the app to effect a change in what the widgets show. Also, on many occasions it'll show only 3 or 4 of the days in the 5-day forecast I have configured. Again, opening the app fixes it, but that defeats the purpose. I've let it run in the background and have disabled battery optimization, but no dice.

I was looking for a Dark Sky replacement and came across this app. I'm very happy so far. It seems like the Dev is focused on making improvements based on responses to other reviews. I purchased the Pro version to fully test the radar functionality. I hope that the radar functionality gets further refined. It would be nice to be able to slow down the radar playback and also be able to view radar for closer time intervals (ie. next 15 minutes, next 30 minutes, etc.).

awesome app. great example of 'less is more'! it strikes a nice balance between modern data driven complex weather information and the old fashioned tv weatherman version lots of us grew up with. when you first open the app each day it's a succinct and user friendly summary for that morning, then a bit more for later in the day. then the evening, and so on. great app. hope it continues. oh, and it's driven by dark sky. I've switched phones to ios, can't wait until you can support apple.

A brilliant no messing weather app, there no in your face fancy colour or needless clutter. You can see what the weather is going to be and the settings allows you to make personalised changes. I like the different layers of time and weather types. I was expecting Google advertising to clutter the screen, but no. Purchases are available in the drop down box and that's it. I deleted the BBC weather app for this one, don't allow the adverts to come into change things. Big thumbs up I'm Appy 👏👏👍

Best dark sky alternative. With dark sky shutting down, had to find a new weather app. Have downloaded several, and Appy by far was the best UI/UX comparatively. I like that It's simple, not cluttered, gives you data you want or care about, and customizable! So far very happy with it and would recommend. My only suggestion to the devs would be don't use straight black for dark mode. And for the ellipsis drop down menu, offset the sub menu text to make it easier to read and look less busy.

I've used a ton of different weather apps over the years, mainly to get a quick overview of the day ahead. Appt Weather is really the only one that makes this simple. I get two notifications a day with a readable explanation of how the coming day is different from the previous one, and what to prepare for. The app itself gives pretty accurate and precise weather by hour. It uses the Dark Sky data, which has been excellent. The developer continues to update with fixes and additional functionality

Favourite app on my phone. I took up the premium, because the app is fantastically designed, easy to use and accurate compared to the others. The developer deserved it. But the premium tier for the app doesn't reflect in the extra features. I would recommend adding a few more features in the premium tier. Themes,for example.

The app structure, simplicity, personalization and user interface are great. The data source is horrible. The data source says it is heavily raining. Actually, the sun is shining with about 50% cloud cover. I will keep the app and keep my annual subscription because I appreciate what what you are attempting to accomplish. Unfortunately, I must use a different app for accurate weather data. UPDATE: Changed my rating to 5 stars. More accurate than I 1st believed.

I had an iPhone until about a year ago and Dark Sky was my favorite weather app. After moving to android I had to find another weather app and just couldn't land on one that had everything I was looking for. I landed on Appy Weather after trying a bunch of different ones, and I'm really really enjoying it. It has a beautiful, clean, simple interface, and has all of the information I'm looking for and presented in a direct, informational way. Absolutely worth the download.

I really like how the forecast is laid out in plain English, makes it much easier to process when I'm quickly looking at the weather for the week. Not too much clutter either. Rain forecast always shows "heavy" rain even when it's drizzle, both for current conditions and forecast. Not sure if that's a bug or it's coming from the weather provider

Almost perfect. I love the way the weather is displayed like a social media feed; from current conditions, moving on to what's happening soon, to a look ahead later on the week. The only thing missing is an animated map. I hope when an alternative Dark Sky data source is found that this will be remedied. Also, the developer was VERY responsive to my inquiry. Thank you for a great app!
