I've been looking for an app that teaches ASL for awhile. I love this app because it teaches you threw repeating videos. Each word you can see clearly signed in the video and it repeats automatically until you choose to move on. Other apps with videos I've found I've had to back out of the word review and go back in to see the demonstration again it's very tedious or worse are the apps that just have pictures with arrows and I just haft to guess if what I'm ending up doing is right.
Main edit below. The good: 5 minutes of use, already have most of the alphabet and numbers memorized. The semi-randomized alternating signs do help challenge and build memory. (Some good commentary removed due to need for edit) Edit: downgrade from 5 to 4 star maybe less in time - 50 minute gap, not when I have a seriously busy schedule. I understand gaps in repetition of signs, but large gaps like this won't help. Did a Google image search, cropped the image, and may likely use only that.
it doesn't allow you to change the level it only starts at beginner and it should just do all the letters and numbers at one time vice 2 at a time and keep quizzing after learning 2 letter at a time maybe its good for beginners but not for people who know there numbers and letters but just having issue with finger spelling words. and there is a factoid that pops up after each question is asked.
It would probably be useful to a total beginner if the answer time didn't run out before the person has completed fingerspelling the word you're supposed to guess. Either you answer after 2 letters or the time expires. Sometimes 2 words begin with the same letters and all you can do is guess, cause waiting to the end of the spelling isn't an option
So far I'm really enjoying this. It teaches letters and numbers then quizzes you on them. Everytime you learn something new then the quizzes build on all you've learned. it helps a lot in familiarizing yourself with lots of repetition. I hope it does words too.
The idea behind this app is a good one, but it's not executed very well. I am an ASL student who was just looking for more practice, and this app doesn't give me what I need. The wait time is fairly ridiculous given that I memorized the signs for the alphabet in one class and have never forgotten a single one. I was interested in practicing my color signs as well, but was very disappointed to find that they f.s. all the colors rather than signing the color.
I didn't think I'd be able to retain the information, but I actually can really well, it gives little spaces of time to see if you can remember after a period of a time, but it's just a little breaks like 30 seconds, but it gives you the letters and numbers. That's what I'm on so far, and I just really like it, and it deserves 5 stars you should try to.
It is making me wait an entire month until my next review. This is ridiculous, and i am not even 4 days into my experience. I didn't feel like I understood the review even after the lessons and had to go off to Google to check the ASL alphabet on my own time. While it is alright to get down the letters loosely, it is not good for the memorizing part for any beginner. I would not recommend. YouTube is a much better resource that has beginner videos that you don't have to wait a month to review on
Really easy to learn and remember. After you get through all the letters and up to number 10 it makes you wait 48 minutes before you can go through another round. That's pointless and wish I could just take a refresher whenever I felt like I needed it and whenever I wanted to. Would give 5 stars if you weren't forced to wait.
I am an asl student and hoh person who is struggling with translation when my deaf friends spell out words. I needed something to practice reading finger spelling. I am actually quite surprised how much I am enjoying this app. It is easy to use and the repetitive quiz is a great memory builder that doesn't feel like I am studying. This app is not for teaching asl it is for flash card rapid fire short session practice.
Very good app. The drill still learning makes remembering easy. It would be nice to be able to look at the slides individually, to have some reference when not testing though.
This really works and no matter how long I go in between using this app from the last time I used it, the way they use the repetition really works. I haven't found any sign that are inaccurate so far either like other apps.
I've downloaded about 4 apps in total to teach me asl and so far this one is the most helpful. It teaches you the the signs first and then you are quizzed on what you've learned so far. Very helpful!
As it goes into the next stage it does go into numbers and mixes with letter questions. So that will help you differentiate between the two which is useful, which in turn helps you better remember.
As a beginner, I feel this app is very useful for me in learning the basics, which is why I downloaded it in the first place. However, recently I had a wait of 2 days between quizzes and when I got it, it was only one letter and now I have to wait 26 days for the next one! It seems like a ridiculously long wait period, especially if I'm just going to be asked one question again.
It has fact backed techniques, and presents th e ingo in an easy way to learn as long as you try to be competitive. I would recommend trying to sign along wi th it, but it's great either way. Thank you!
I understand what they are trying to do with the breaks but there are way too many and they are way too close together. Videos are also a little more helpful too rather than just pictures in the beginning
The drill aspect is good for practice but I would like to be able to go through all the signs individually when I'm unsure exactly how to manipulate my fingers without the time pressure.
This app is great at teaching the signs a few at a time while steadily introducing more and continuously quizzing on signs you've already learned. It forces you to take small breaks in between so your brain retains the information.
This app gives you basic finger spell but after that there is limited ability to use it due to wait in between practice sessions. My next one is in 22 days. I only had two practice questions the last time.
Its really help with the basic. Every teaching come with question and repetitively, makes me memorized all the alphabets in one day! Very recommended!
Good app so far but the long wait feels unnecessary especially since it's one or two letters every time. I get having some waiting but make it so you get more practice out of each wait.
I can't use this app. The model hand is so creepy, I had to uninstall. I'm not trying to be funny. I gave an extra star even because the app did a good job of teaching me some letters by quizzing me. Please change this to a healthier hand
Doesn't work! Stays on the loading screen showing only "S". App hasn't been updated in over 4 years! Don't waste your time installing it!
I just wanted to practice reading fingersoelling and this app was wonderful at first, but it has this strange "wait time" feature that starts to kick in--making me wait days, then only allowing me 4-5 examples before waiting again. currently I'm waiting 29 days!?
i ve only down loaded this app today i tried it o ly about a hour or so....i hate it when an app try to malnipulate you too rate then as soon as you down load..and if you dont they will continue to interupt your interaction until you rate..that why i gave them one star because i dont know if the repeticious testing method work for substaining memory.
I like how the app gives you numbers as well, thats about as far as i have gotten, but i legt out one star because I feel like they should have a reveiw tjing where you can see things you've forgotten. Otherwise great app, continuemlearning on!
It was fine at first but after less than a week it will only let you practice two signs at a time then makes you wait 2 days before practicing another sign. Will be looking for another app that allows me to practice more than when the app allows me to...
I am catching on to finger spelling quite fast with this app. I have supplemented this app with a few others because it takes a few days to learn other words. I like it because what you learn sticks!
The app is entirely for beginners. You can't set the difficulty level or even go straight to words. They make you slowly go through the whole alphabet. I was hoping for help with lexilized words and practice for quick word comprehension to improve my overall fingerspelling skills. It's a great app for beginners but doesn't offer anything for the average signer.
