Astrolapp Live Planets and Sky Map

Your window to the starry sky

Hold your device into the sky to observe and identify planets, stars and constellations through your phone's display. Enjoy Astrolapp's highly sensitive and very accurate Live Mode, along with a visually appealing and intuitive interface. (Note: Live Mode is available only on devices with a built in compass)

Stars are drawn according to their true color and provided with their names according to the International Astronomical Union. Optionally, the 88 official constellations are drawn with or without name labels. Use a powerful search function and let an arrow guide you to find any planet, star or constellation above your head.

Tapping on any star or planet, Astrolapp highlights the path across the sky which the celestial body follows in the course of the night (or day). In addition, Astrolapp calculates rise and set times for any celestial body to the minute and shows the current position data in tabular form on a separate pull-out display.

Astrolapp automatically detects your current location and uses it to calculate the starry sky as you are seeing it. But if you ever want to know what the starry sky looks like at the other end of the world, just use the built-in map to select any other location.

Also, Astrolapp will show you the current sky by default. However, should you be interested in how the sky will look like next month, or wish to plot planetary constellations at historical events decades or centuries ago, Astrolapp will take you there in a few seconds. Watch the sky changing, in fast motion!

As an alternative to live-mode or for devices without a built-in compass, Astrolapp offers a star-map-mode. To switch between the two types of display, tap the '3D'-button. Both modes offer basically the same information and functionality as described above.

Star-map-mode: An interactive star map in the style of an astronomical clock

This representation visualizes the mechanics of the Solar System and the movements of the stars and constellations in the course of the day and the year. This is achieved by a planar projection of the celestial sphere, as it was used in medieval astrolabes and astronomical clocks.

Astrolapp depicts the celestial sphere as it would be seen by someone sitting at the celestial north pole. From this point of view, the sun moves clockwise around the center of the plot, within one day, parallel to the celestial equator, just like on a 24-hour dial of a clock. Moon and planets move a little more or less than a full circle per day, depending on their proper motion within the solar system.

This app is very well thought out and displays lots of information in a user friendly way. I've used it on both a phone and larger tablet with it adapting to both screen sizes perfectly. I would highly recommend this app to astronomers or anyone interested in the night sky. Just as a side note, I have most of the leading paid for apps of this type on my various devices but feel I'm going to be using this app a lot when out with the telescope.

Exceeds expectations! Night mode even uses red light to allow for best nighttime viewing without messing with the eye's natural adjustment to the darkness. This app was clearly made by experienced astronomers. This is the best app of its kind and light on phone memory with a relatively small file size.

I've never seen an astrology app that is this detailed in astronomy. The search mode, when typing in a name or a catalog number, is useless. The graphics are pretty good but you should be able to fly to and orbit each star. All the best astronomy apps have that capability.

GENIUS!! BEAUTIFUL!! WONDERFUL!! A most beautiful app! I feel for those who don't understand what this is. The astronomical clock mode is literally divine. You are able to see the current state of the cosmos at any time. I would love to see it as a widget! Thank you!!

Worst gyro i have ever used in an astronomy app..and i paid for this. All because i didnt see the old red shift app. i used to have through apple back in the day. Now that app. was actually fun to use it the field. If you like looking north and seeing objects to the south, then this is for you.

At first glance it seems to technical but the help does a good job of explaining it's inner workings. It's great fun to finally put names to the stars and planets that are always overhead. Well done.

The app never centers correctly. The moon is always half a sky away. Calibrated several times. Don't know why nobody can make an app like this that works. Used to have one 10 years ago that was flawless...

The right side panel was a pain to hide then the whole app hid. Then I could not get it to work properly when I finally had a run at it after an hour, maybe my mobile goes not have a compass or a magnatrometer, but after an hour, I couldn't care less to troubleshoot anymore

I had to uninstall this app due to incorrect star data information. Data on stars and planets were sporadic and didn't show RA or DEC coordinates and no rise and set times. Clicking on a star like Beatelguis in Orion not only did not show any data information but did show incorrect LY distance. After 5 more incorrect or no data, l uninstalled this app. Kim Kenny - Crewe Astronomy Club

It's just a simple app with a minimal size but i don't know why i have a good feel to it. There is some star that has no label in other apps unlike here. I like the shine good job.

No have detail information about stars on tap. Not interactive with user like share astro in special moment, no info about special moment in astro every day. Etc. This look like just visualize astro app., ideally this free app.

I'm not at all into astrology, but find it very interesting. Astrolapp is an interesting (and easy) app to fill the gap in my background. Thank you so much! 10/10!!

I freaking love this app. It's very cool how I'm able to change between night an day viewing! Even better how I can see that star names n the constellation.

The best astronomical map I used on Android. Very small and fast, works like a charm on my enter level phone.
