Text to speech alone, this app is amazing with the selection of voices and just how better the narrations are compared to similar apps. The problem is quality of life features are still lacking... the app is bare-bones. Devs please add a search function so I can jump into the chapter I left off not everyone will use your app and start with a fresh book. If it's there (the search function) please make it easier for user to find and use it.
Voices are fantastic, better than any other text to speech reader out there, but there are a few down sides - 1- the reader sometimes reads a whole paragraph, and then moves on to the second sentence and carries on from there - resulting in most of the paragraph being repeated 2- the app periodically crashes for no reason 3 - the reader stops at the end of each chapter rather than continuing to the next. If these 3 issues could be fixed I would definitely pay for premium, the voice narration is so good for a tts engine. The app also does not continue reading when the phone is locked, and the voice speed can't be changed - these would be great features on the premium version but not as much of a problem as the 3 issues above
The only strength of this app is the usage of Amazon Polly TTS engine, which is one of a kind among eReaders. However, the weaknesses are numerous; 1. Primitive text reader; buggy, unstable, and unreliable 2. Poor import functions; doesn't do TTS from PDF files 3. Unintuitive user interface; inconsistent display of book collections 4. Poor support; the app hasn't been updated for more than a year since its release 5. The TTS speech controls are limited; no controls for speed or pitch
Very promising app as it allows using Amazon Polly voices. The main downside is there doesn't seem to be a way to change the playback speed which is really important. Changing voices seems to be a bit buggy as well. It doesn't look like it's been updated in a while, but hopefully development continues.
I'm giving 5 stars for the utilisation of Amazon Polly text to speech synthesis. The voices are very natural sounding and I absolutely love that; especially the British voice, Amy, which I personally think sounds just like a real person would when narrating a book. The only downside is that it does seem that this app is still in early development with bugs here and there, the books I import into it end up disappearing after I exit the app and I have to reimport them. But still great job!
It's a good app. The voices are really great. But their are some things that just don't work for me. For example when I go into table of contents and try to select a chapter to jump to it doesn't work. Also Everytime I close out the app it doesn't save the place where I was reading. So for example if I was on chapter 10 it would jump back to chapter 3. And since the table of contents doesn't work I have to scroll all the way to where I was. It's really annoying.
I just paid for the pro version hoping to be able to use Polly. While I can get one of the installed books that come with the app to read aloud, it is difficult to get started. When I import one of my epub books I can't get the voices to read at all. I can only read the text. No voice works. I paid for the upgrade and I am considerably miffed big time!
Excellent array of voices to choose from however needs to be more user friendly. Constant crashes made me keep losing my place. Also would prefer continual speech, every time the chapter ended I had to click next and then press play again. This made it difficult when I was listening to an ebook in the car.
Good, but needs work. - increasing font size doesn't work - increasing margin adds extra space between paras - voices work well, but pausing is buggy and skips one or two paragraphs ahead - app doesn't remember which books were imported / reading position. Considering the price and voice quality, the app is good but needs working through for the bugs above. I can't find any other apps using Amazon Polly, apart from Evie, which is more expensive
there are three things wrong with it 1. can you make it easier to find my books 2. it won't read in the background it turns off everytime I try to 3. and this is the biggest one it reads for a little while and then it starts highlighting and moving really fast like it's actually reading something but it's not
It's currently broken. It'll read a handful of paragraphs and then just stop reading and start skipping paragraphs. Needs ways to go back to previous lines (fast forward and rewind), and also needs a way to continue reading into the next chapter of the book. This app hasn't gotten the updates other TTS apps have, so I'm not super hopeful.
I don't want to buy books, I have an endless supply through my library app OverDrive, I have 2 libraries connected to that! I'm an avid reader, but having trouble staying focused. Been trying to read the same 3 books for 2-3 years, so frustrating. If you could help please do! Thank you for making an app like this!😊 Wow, last updated May 2018! I'll just simplify, & uninstall. Hoping to get better results guidance from actual original ( I think?) App. Thanks
I think it's still in the early phase of production. The voices are very nice to listened to,, however not all actually working. Not very much I can say about the visual other than it is very simple. The reading program however often lagging,, took a long silence before reading, or stop allsoever. We also can't really set up the reading experience, such as where we want to begin read etc. Also,, sometimes it jumped back to paragraph it's already read,, only to read random lines. Thanks eitherway
Very good App. Downside is that it does not carry on from where you left.. Each time you have to scroll and try to remember where you left off. Has nice selection of reading voices to choose from.
90% of the time it just loads a blank screen instead of my epub which works fine in other apps. also there is no way to skip ahead and it doesn't remember where I left off. speed controls would be nice too. they read too slowly.
I am a book reader and loves reading book but these days I don't have much time so listening to the books is the best. And really The voices are lifelike and beautiful and it also uses Amazon Polly. only complaint is that it doesn't support offline. I mean it doesn't have any offline feature at all. Other than that it's realy good.
The voices sound great, but there was no way to change the speed. What I don't like is that I cant read any of the books I get from Amazon or the play store. Also when tts is turned on it would be nice if sentences were hihlighted and move along with the speaker.
It's pretty decent. I like it. Although, what I hate is that whenever I exit the app or turn my phone off, the audio stops. It would be better if it were like Spotify or Sound Cloud.
The audio reader app which is supposed to "turn any ebook into an audio book" did not work from the start, not with the few ebooks that came with the app, not with a pdf ebook that I imported. It imported and displayed the pdf nicely. But it is promoted as Audiobook Reader.
The voice is nice but the app is glitchy. It stops at the end of chapters and won't continue, and seems to randomly repeat passages for no reason. Very disruptive listening experience.
Easy app to use. Though I wish I could change the speed on how the story is read, pick and choose where I want it to read and it didn't repeat what it has already read. Other than that I would have said this one was perfect
This seriously need an option to choose the paragraphs to read, specially since it fails to load many times and skips entire paragraphs forcing me to close the book and start again, since I can't make it go back.
terrible, as others said the voices are awesome. the app itself is bug riddled and junk. doesn't import files. doesn't let you change the voice half the time. ridiculous. what a shame.
App hasn't been updated in months, paid to support the developers because the app had promise. I was really looking forward to an easy and reliable way to use Amazon Polly, this isn't it. This could be really great, but needs developer commitment. Disappointed!
I tried this app out and ended up having to uninstall it first the good. there are plenty of different voices to use for the text to speech and they do sound very natural. the customization is decent but not great. second the bad. some books would not load even though they were the same format. frequently losing place in book after closing. hasn't been updated in over a year. also does not work text to speech with screen off.
