Perhaps something needs to be done with the sensitivity levels regarding the connection with the wifi or Bluetooth or mobile network. I find that the phone takes a long time to connect and communicate with the lock. Maybe applying a static IP address would help? Maybe the Bluetooth is not used when wifi is available? Looking further into things and trying to find a more suitable/reliable system. I am in an apartment building, so perhaps that is making a difference. Anyway, love the system.

If there were other reliable, temporary options for a renter that work without disabling landlord/complex access, I would jump ship. When everything works, it's great! When it doesn't, it's incredibly frustrating & inconvenient. Recently my lock keeps losing & reconnecting to my wifi. Nothing has changed so I thought perhaps a quick uninstall & reinstall of the bridge would solve the problem. Well now I can't get any of it to work. SUPER frustrating & any sort of support is nonexistent. Beware

Installed the third generation lock for six months now and the app has been responsive almost every single time. We use the auto unlock feature as well and we find it constant. The app setup was very easy with the lock too. A good choice overall. We choose the third generation lock for longer battery life and it is AAA (easy to find). The app alerts you to replace the battery too, this however didn't turn on once we replaced the battery but it did reset on the second try.

Auto unlock feature works intermittently at best on my Android phone. This has been like that with my S9 and the same issues are present with my s22. This feature is flawless on my wife's iPhone but August is struggling with Android since I can remember (they even have a notice when activating this feature that it's working inconsistently on their app). It's a same it's taking so long to resolve. I cannot recommend this lock/app to my friends with Android phone.

I've had nothing but problems with the auto-lock and auto-unlock feature using an android phone. I have reached out to tech support multiple times but to no avail. I have to turn on these advertised features because they have created security issues with the home being unlocked while away. As well, as a Canadian I have had to pay an additional $54 from FedEx for duty & tax. I cannot recommend this product based on my experience and advise customers to explore other options.

This device does not reliably remain connected to WiFi. My access point is six feet directly above the door lock. When connected it shows a strong WiFi signal. This prevents the useful proximity features from working properly. The Bluetooth connectivity, while standing next to the door, works fine but requires manual use of the app.

This was supposed to be for an Airbnb, but when I tried connecting to the Airbnb app, I continuously got a "There was an error/something went wrong" message. Even tried reinstalling and then the Airbnb option just wouldn't work at all. Ended up driving right back to Florida from South Carolina because host wasn't competent enough to make sure key was in lockbox or answer messages faster than 4.5 hours. Thanks for nothing. Worthless app and company, don't risk it or waste time and fuel.

Edit:1 year from the original review and nothings changed except my rating. Doesn't work for the purpose it was bought for. You can setup auto unlock but will it work? Who knows.... be prepared to be juggling your precious phone and handfuls of groceries at the same time because usually the unlock feature doesn't work. The format of the app itself could be much better. Haven't seen any major improvements in the 2 years I've owned these locks. If you haven't bought these locks yet, don't.

It has worked fantastic for me. I know my wife has had problems with the autolock function but I don't seem to be experiencing those problems. I definitely recommend this lock to everyone. I have replaced all my deadbolt locks with these locks, all of them the 4th generation wifi version. All of them work well with my wifi without the bridge. I must mention that I have one of the new Orbi 6 mesh network wifi routers. Let's see if they continue to work well as it's only been a few months.

It works great, when it wants to randomly. Unless I pull up the app and unlock or lock the door myself, then it doesn't work automatically anymore. My step dad who bought this and installed everything, has called customer support and they have restarted and done some stuff multiple times. Support has suggested things and we have done all of them, and it still doesn't work automatically. Only manually. The only time it works automatically is locking it after the 2 minutes. But never unlocking.

When it works, it's exactly what you wanted. However, it's extremely random. Sometimes it opens before you reach the door, other times it's over 10 minutes after you have already come inside. Notifications are also random. Sometimes you get "away from home" notifications but it seems like this is 1/10 times.

Great smart lock. I changed from Schlage to this because my battery died and that had no key option. However I'd rate this 5 if the app would have a battery meter. It's a shame or it'd be perfect. Auto unlocks a little tricky but it works most of the time 95% I'd say. My Alexa controls it flawlessly and even reminds me when I've forgotten to lock up at night. All in all I'm satisfied... just get that battery percentage on the app

Not made for alot of use, this is my 3rd one, many lessons have been learned. #1 lesson is August locks force you to buy brand new non rechargeable batteries, doesnt matter if you run high end lithium in, to nickel cad rechargeables, they just hate ALL rechargeable batteries. They really should put the charge of the battery accessible inside the August app without having to dig for it.

Auto unlock doesn't work half the time even after History shows I'm home. The app often doesn't load, just stays at the logo or blank screen. Then when I tap on the lock and it's supposed to ask for my fingerprint it freezes up. Closing it and reopening it sometimes helps but sometimes it doesn't. Then sometimes the auto unlock just stays open for hours, over a day in the notification center, loading and using my battery but not unlocking the door. I have an S22 and battery optimization is off.

Auto unlock was always unreliable. But since the last update it has failed to auto unlock every time I have returned home. They always ask for feedback, on the app which is completely ignored. After 3 years I have given up on this company. Look elsewhere for a smart lock. You won't find August locks are any good.

Would like to see feature improvements. Major disappointment is the auto unlock feature. You have to move 200 meters away from your home to activate away mode (mostly only works if the app was recently opened on your phone). Would be awesome if they allowed the user to choose the distance. Or if they allowed ifttt to unlock the lock or if they allowed a feature where it unlocks when your phone connects to WiFi.

Great app, we definetely need watch app. Thats a must. Sometimes its a bit laggy when looking for the lock but not really bad. Due Android OS restirctions some performance degredation can be seen on features such as Auto Unlock and switching between Wi-Fi and Bluetooth unless correct permissions given.

I can't update anything about existing users - trying to save errors out. If I want to change the timeframe a temporary key works without changing the custom pass code, I have to delete the user, then recreate it. It's wildly annoying. Everything else works great.

Going on two years now, the lock and app have been working great. Very convenient not having to reach for your keys. And giving friends and vendors short term access simplifies problems with physical keys. Really enjoy the lock and app.

If u own android I would stay away. I have has August since the beginning of 2018 I have had nothing but issues with it. I have 100% given up on auto unlock it just does not work on android. I still have a ticket order from 2018. Ironically after writing this review one of locks broke! Customer service is non-existent definitely going to try a different company all together. Thanks for the help augest JK there is no one to talk to.

I have this app & lock 2 stars because when it works, I love it. The problem is though that probably 80% of the time or greater, the app & lock doesn't work right. The app shows the lock in the incorrect place almost constantly. It also claims the lock is jammed quite frequently when it's not.

V 22.7.0 Auto Unlock never works correctly any more. Attempts to unlock door before I even leave the garage!! Part of the time it unlocks the door when you are leaving, NOT when you return, so your door is left unlocked or 30 minutes or longer after you have been home it unlocks the door, leaving the door unlocked. Developer can't be bothered to write even a useless "What's New". I would not recommend.

I have been using August for 12 months. Battery still going on with door opening and closing 5 times a day. It recognises and opens the door 97 percent of the time when I come home. 3 percent I miss can be because of my network. It's a great product. Love it. Highly recommended.

Easy to install, timely notifications. Can have multiple codes for individuals, and even set up authorized entry windows, say for example: The cleaning agency on the first and third Friday of the month between 9am and 1am. That way, no-one can get the cleaning staffs code and enter during a time when the cleaning agency is not scheduled. Not perfect... but close enough for me.

App is fairly easy to use. Notifications are good especially battery and lock/unlock status. Battery life is OK, but could be improved. They should think about having an automatic battery replenishment option.

Love my August smart locks, they work well, you don't have to change your existing deadbolt, they let you know when the battery is low and when people enter/exit the house. Just great! My only thing it doesn't do that I wish it could is, I wish the "auto unlock" could unlock multiple locks. I have a door with double deadbolts, both with august locks, I wish one "master" lock could detect my presence and then command both locks to auto unlock. (Either through BT or WiFi)

App unreliable, crashes often, and I have been trying to set up additional users in my family with no sucess. The app is terrible for that. I habe been trying and 6 months later I still have foind a solution. Over 8 months and still have not been able to add family as users...

August is trying but becomes an e waste contributer. Buying any second hand item linked to another account and the precious owner doesn't release it or never sees the email about it. Really dumb. 4/7/22 wifi bridge connection is still spotty needs addressed. My August devices are just arms length from other. 4/7/22 Google play is still faster connecting to lock and unlock my device then the August app.
