Aurora Alert

Aurora Alert is an app designed to alert you when you have the best chance of seeing the aurora borealis in your area (aurora australis in the southern hemisphere.). It is designed to work "right out of the box", without any configuration needed from the user. This design makes Aurora Alert an ideal app for all users. Novice users benefit from the automated nature of the app, while intermediate to advanced users can enjoy an abundance of data at their fingertips.
Features:
- Automatically alerts when auroral activity is high enough
- Current auroral activity based on Kp and history graphs
- Auroral oval map customized for all locations
- NOAA Kp predictions within the next few hours
- 3-day aurora forecast
- Solar wind and IMF data
- Configure when you can be alerted based on sky darkness
- Filter out alerts based on current cloud cover
- Several local K-indices available for the most up-to-date activity
- Moon phase calendar included

When first launching Aurora Alert, it will find your location from GPS or cell networks, and then configure your settings based on the results. Users can then adjust any settings, if they wish. Aurora Alert will then update in the background, as often as you wish, and will alert you to possible aurora sightings when the conditions are favorable. You’ll never miss a chance to see the northern lights again!

Aurora Alert is configured to run as efficiently as possible. Automatic updates will download only 5KB of compressed data per update, which spares users of downloading needless data against their limits. It also runs only when it needs to, and no more, which helps save battery life and frees up for RAM for other apps. Note that since Aurora Alert needs to update in the background, certain task killer apps can prevent it from updating. So if you run any task killers, Aurora Alert will need to be on the ignore list in order to keep updating.

This used to be an amazing app for going out to see the northern lights. About 2 or 3 years ago their was a huge display on Mother's Day. After that this app has not worked and I've noticed the developers have not updated this app in a coon's age. Plus I noticed the app was removed from the Google play store. Was it renamed or what? Hope someone get back with me from the public side. Plus this is a paid app and like to see it work again.

Used to be one of my favourite apps on my phone. Devs haven't updated this since 2015, and it's no longer working. Should be updated or taken down from the app store. So sad that the developers would just let this amazing app die like this...

Paid for the app, then stopped receiving any updates. The app has been unable to refresh since June 2018.

This app used to be my favourite aurora alert app, and since people have paid a fair bit as far as apps go, the developers should get it back up and running, or refund the fees.

This is hands-down the best Aurora app on the market, period (Android and iPhone). The data is accurate and reliable and when the notification settings are done appropriately, you know when to head outside and look north. The only gripe I have is that the map showing the current Aurora extent isn't large enough on larger phone screens. Knowing the app is regularly updated, I'm confident it will be fixed.

Used to be my goto app for the lights, over the past year it has become completely worthless. The app is broken and does not follow settings anymore, I.e. it DOES NOT NOTIFY of higher indexes, and it does not even refresh its own information. Now I have to manually refresh to see what it claims current n forecast conditions are, which are no longer even close to accurate anyway. Save the money and just check the n.o.a.a. ovation website. Same information, but ACCURATELY and CONSTANTLY maintained unlike this

Would give a 5 star rating if you were able to resize the map.... It was bigger on my Galaxy S2..But on my Galaxy S4 its too tiny.. Come on boys stop having a laugh you are bright enough to design this app, and not be able to get the map size right for all phones is a joke.

I think this app would have 5 stars except while setting it up it won't keep the setting for refresh rate/time or to keep it so it refreshes only on Wi-Fi, every other page has "ok" to click to move to next page of settings except this one. Help with this would be appreciated.

When I first started using this app it was amazing. Loved it! Now it doesn't do anything. It won't load a damn reading. Everything says, "Data Unavailable" . Not too sure what is going on. I have even went as far as to clear the cache and the data from the app and start over. I would have given this app 5 stars but until my issue is resolved I can only give 1 star. I hope my issue can be fixed if not it's just taking up space and will be deleted!

Definitely the best Aurora Alert app I've found. When comparing the data coming through here, it was matching very well the NOAA data. Customisation was excellent EXCEPT for one thing. Would it possible to add an option to update data daily? The ability to keep up to date quickly is excellent when the atmosphere is cranking, but for those many days where the Kp is 1-3, this app drinks juice (not hugely) for no benefit. I end up turning updates off. Include this option and it's 5 stars all the way.

After reading some recent reviews I think I understand why I'm confused. It's broken. It says high Kp in 4hrs but if you look at it's forecast it will be low. the peak already passed. I think it has a time zone issue.

I don't think this app is supported anymore. It doesn't seem to send any info to my phone. If this is something I'm doing wrong, please let me know and I'll fix it and amend by review but for now, I don't recommend this app

This app hasnt worked for me in months. I get no data from it, and no way to refresh the information. Very disappointing.

Jes. H. Dec 29, 2015

I used it for nearly 2 years. I got great alerts and great photos, would have said ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐. But after re-installing it on my new phone (same phone, model and number) it never alerts me now never updates and doesn't show the map at all, for weeks. I'm going to uninstall it because it's useless now. Fix it!!! I relied on this app a lot

Best alert out there, does Borealis and Australis. However, very conservative default Kp values for alerts - recommend lowering them to avoid false negatives.

Lac. G. Sep 29, 2016

The best app I've found! Often the last conditions page where the wind speeds, directions, etc is listed "unavailable". I realize they rely on NOAA for that information though, so you can't really blame the app for that. Otherwise it's almost perfect!

This app has been abandoned. The last time the app was updated was Jan 2015. There has been no reply to repeated inquires for support. This app has many bugs and some features no longer work. You should not have to pay for an app with no customer support.
