The new design to show the scores is user unfriendly and requires a mental gymnastics. Displaying the scores two lines (one player at the top, the another on the bottom) is more readily readable. About the notifications: It would be better to focus on the winner not the loser eg. One has won against Two instead of Two has lost against One. Hope that helps for improvement.

The navigation bar is sluggish (at least 2s the change sections). The back button to close the app works randomly at best. Can't slide left or right to navigate through tabs. Worst is scores don't update properly. For example, Federer's match is stuck to 2-1 in the third set when it's been finished for a while now.

Edit 2022: notable improvements have been made since original review. Does what is required for stay at home viewers. Functionally probably one of my least favourite Open apps I've ever used. Aesthetically looks pretty good. The radio component drops in and out sometimes and you can't pause/stop it when not in the specific page in the app. The latest update seems to have stopped majority of crashes which is great but it is still sluggish.

UPDATE 2022. Looks like someone's looked at the poor reviews and done something about it. Match schedule, scores are now working with performance seeming ok. 2020 review It does give schedule, results and scores - eventually. There are so many performance issues ( no working back button, doesn't reconnect when going to another app, very slow loading and moving to another tab) that I find it unusable.

The app is good. The one page I love to get information from is no longer being done. The page showed the top 32 seeds and was updated showing who the were playing next or the round they were defeated in and by who they lost to. It is hard to look at the draws especially in the earlier rounds when there is two sections to see which seeded players have been eliminated.

2020 Unfortunately so slow and unresponsive that getting scores is too painful to continue using it. In addition to it being laggy, it freezes often and anytime you switch to another app and come back it's frozen. Really disappointing. If it can be fixed I'm happy to rereview and use again, though for now I'm looking for another app... 2022 working better, so much player information missing, photos mostly and some of these are seeds which is embarrassing guys... Do better!

Below was my last year comment from 1 star. Today this year of 2022. I gave 5 stars or more. Outstanding!!! Elegant and very user friendly. Excellent!!! The lagging is worst especially to view thr videos from players' highlight. The scroll down menu not helpful not friendly at all . Also when u click on the player through the schedule page.. When u return it will not go back to the current page but go back to previous top page.. Wasting my time to scroll down again.

Awful app, the worst app I have on my phone. Incredibly laggy, the live scores are almost never correct, and every time you move away from the app and then go back to it, it reloads. Dire.

Chr. N. Jan 27, 2022

AO22 is the best effort the developers have made thus far (going back over the last 4 Australian Opens). There are no longer any crashes and all relevant information is presented in a logical fashion. Congratulations, keep up the good work.

Australian Open told us to link our tickets from Ticketmaster to this app for streamline entry at the gates. However, the QR code required for entry is not displayed in the app at all. We still need to log in to Ticketmaster OR link to Google Pay to get the required QR code. So that feature is basically useless. This app shows scores and schedule of play which is all this app is good for really.

Last year this app was good. This year, after the changes, it's very slow. Unable to navigate fast through this app on my new phone. Ideally, if one taps on a player's name, in the live score card, one should be able to see the player profile. But that doesn't seem to be the case here. Looking forward to fixes that will make this app a bit more user friendly. One more problem -- the videos won't switch to landscape mode. I was trying to watch the Osaka-Gauff match. But gave up.

The app is slow to navigate and load, and often freezes. Parts of it are not intuitive - for example, clicking on a player's name from anywhere (match schedule, results, etc.) should take you to that player's profile but it doesn't. I switched to watching live scores via a Google search rather than in this app because it was so slow and glitchy. A shame because I love the tennis and would spend a lot of time in this app!

Very slow app, freezes often. Too much focus on the non-tennis stuff, which makes it take longer to navigate to the actual tennis info. The time of matches on the first page were sometimes wrong. A simple expectation is to be able to click on a tennis player's name from the draw or schedule screens (or any screen for that matter) and be taken to their profile. That's not the case. I look forward to a better app next year.

The most irritating part of this app, for me, is that if I navigate away from the live scores, it won't refresh when I go back to them. I have to close the app out entirely in order to have updated scores. I'd be better off just following it on Google. Also, I despise the way the statistics are set up, plus they don't update point by point - unlike the apps for the other slams. It's just not an enjoyable experience, at all, and makes following along with the matches nearly impossible.

Kar. Jan 27, 2020

App freezes a lot. And, seriously, when you scroll half way down a long list and click on a match for details, when you go back to the list, it should NOT put you back at the top so you have to start all over! That is a terrible error within the app. I agree with other reviewers that last year's app was way more user friendly and just better overall.

On first glance it seems workable enough but we'll know more once the tournament proper begins. Update after day one: live scores very slow to load, picture gallery navigation sluggish and look and feel is a bit too much like a website. A downgrade on last year. Update: Even after update of Jan 15 still too sluggish. News and Media section does not load. Not sure why live scores are so hard to get at - 2 or 3 screens deep. Disappointing.

Update: Good to see TA implementing some of the feedback in the last update with the scehdules and back button. Event content looks great. Still finding the app freezes and crashes a lot and not being able to manage push notifications for your favourite players is dissapointing. Draws is also difficult to navigate. I find the website is a lot easier to use this year for scores, draws, schedules and players.

Jir. H. Jan 26, 2020

If I could give 0 stars, I would. The app is slow, often unresponsive and the only way to switch between tabs is to terminate it and start over. Scrolling in match list is slow. When you open a match detail and then return to the overview, it jumps to the top again, making marking matches as favourite (to get updates) real pain. No point installing it, just use Google search or other service.

Vin. A. Jan 22, 2020

This is the worst AO app ever. I've never used an app that is so unresponsive. What's the point of having many features when it doesn't respond at all. Almost anything I try to click on the bottom navigation bar, no response. I only want to check the schedule, draws, and scores. But I'd rather use some other service to check these if the app is so unresponsive. I would give a negative rating for this app if I had the option. Please make the app responsive.

Bra. G. Jan 27, 2020

Every year I ask for the same single feature...how hard can it be? When choosing favourite players, I want to search by country. This immediately reduces the field to those players of most interest to me. Would you please consider adding this feature? Thank you. Also, when displaying an individual player's matches, these are not correctly sorted.

A. G. u. Jan 14, 2019

really bad battery drain and not even watching videos or using the radio stream (where you'd expect higher usage). Just quickly checking scores or the draw shouldnt make the phone turn into a mini oven. Otherwise the app seems to have a nice flow to it, and match notifications for favourite players is a nice feature. Just fix the inefficient code 👍

Hel. S. Jan 22, 2020

Worst app compared to all other slams. Takes too long to load and crashes frequently. The layout is very elementary and doesn't provide links to more information, such as learning about the player during the match. You have to get out of the score section and go to the player section. Even there the info is paltry. Do better next year.

Ben. H. Jan 30, 2020

The app is incredibly slow on my galaxy a50, it takes countless seconds to respond to anything and when it does it takes extremely long to load content even on a good internet connection. I ended up just using Google search which is significantly better because I actually get to see the scores of the matches within a reasonable amount of time.

Zoe. T. Jan 28, 2022

Excellent ap! the live scores are lightning fast, faster than TV. All the information you could possibly want. Recommended

Jod. F. Jan 18, 2020

This app is disappointing. Previous years versions worked fine. This one is full of bugs and it crashes often. Might as well just navigate around a web page instead. You had 12 months to develop it properly. Maybe hire a new app team to get it right. Considering I will be in there nearly every day and need this app, as a) a parent of a ballkid and b) a spectator, this is truly frustrating.

Jly. C. Jan 23, 2020

Not sure why the app had me put in my favourites when I don't get any updates on them. Also the app wouldn't respond even when I was at the tournament. I could open the app and choose 1 menu but then it would freeze and if I wanted to see mens singles instead of womens for example it would freeze and I would have to force close and reopen. It drained my battery and I have been using Google instead to find results and upcoming matches. Will just uninstall.

App freezing all the time. Unable to look at live scores. Trying to look at completed matches and app freezes while slowly scrolling down and it happens far too often. Deleted the app only 3 days into the tournament on an Android phone. Disappointing as I remember the same app working brilliantly last year for the 2019 season. Should have hired those same app developers again this year.
