AutoAir
AutoAir helps you control your cellular radio automatically according to the WIFI status. Once your phone is connected to the internet through WIFI, you cellular radio will be turned off. Once your phone is losing WIFI connection, cellular radio will be turned on. This application helps you keep the WIFI and cellular radio exclusively available and keep you connected by at least one way. The motivation for this application is the free calling provided by Google Voice. With Google Voice and some other apps (see introductions below), you could make any call through WIFI or 3G without spending the minutes provided by the carrier. If WIFI is available to you all the time, this application will help you to reduce your payment to carrier to almost zero! Of course, Google Voice service is only available at the US and Canada. Sorry for other countries' users.
Free Calling MethodsHere I list several easiest way for you to use your Android Phone make and receive calls for free.1) AutoAir + GrooveIP: If you have a GV account, this is the simplest way. Download and install the app, input your GV account and password, start connecting. Open AutoAir start service. That’s it, no more operation on your phone.
One more thing you need to do is go the Google Voice “SETTING”, select your phone number as Google Chat and your Cell Phone Number. You can buy GrooveIp with $4.99. After that, you can tell your friends your GV phone number without telling them your true cell phone number.
2) AutoAir + Google Voice Call Back Free + Skype: The first thing is that you need to do is having a Google Voice Account. Then you need to apply a Skype-In number. Reminder, this is not free. Skype will charge you $14.99 for 3 months. It’s really cheap. Then go to Google Voice setting, forward your phone call to your Skype-In number and your true cellphone number. On your android phone, you need to install AutoAir, Google Voice Call Back Free and Skype. Start AutoAir service, setting your Google Voice Call Back (set “make all calls with Google Voice” and Call Back to your Skype-In number) and login your Skype. Now you could make and receive all calls for free.
3) AutoAir + CSipSimple + Google Voice Call Back Free: This method is totally for FREE. Those software are all free, the services they provide are also free. But this method is also the most complicated. The first step you need to get a Google Voice Account. Secondly, get a SIP provider, for instance, Sip2Sip (you could get a list of them from the list of CSipSimple). After registering, you will receive an email from Sip2Sip, telling you your SIP account and SIP server. Main is like this:SIP address: [email protected]: abcdefg

- Domain/Realm: sip2sip.info
- Outbound proxy: proxy.sipthor.net
- XCAP root: https://xcap.sipthor.net/xcap-rootThe third step is forwarding this number to a phone number. This service is provided by IPKall, totally free. Click the IPKall super-link and fill the blanks with the information you received from Sip2Sip. You then will get a number like 425-XXX-XXXX.Fourthly, install CSipSimple and AutoAir on your android phone. Set up your account with the Sip2Sip account. Crashes immediately every time I try to open it.
If your phone finds a Wi-Fi network, it will drop your call instantly and switch to airplane mode. If the app could check and make sure that you aren't in the middle of a call before entering airplane mode, it would be a five-star app. A widget that lets you toggle AutoAir would also be nice. Other than that, I like this app. Thanks!
when my phone connects to wifi automatically as usual, this app will automatically enable airplane mode. And when my phone disconnects wifi this app will turn off airplane mode.
Works great on android 4.1.x and lower. For 4.2 and higher you can use Xposed Airplane Mode Helper to restore functionality.
I really like uncomplicated apps that function well. This one is like that. Some folks may find it a little confusing why you would use this, but once you know you need it, it really hits the spot. (Another reviewer commented that when he went on wifi he didn't get text messages any more. The app is mainly intended to work along with Google Voice. With Google Voice, you get your text messages over wifi if you configure it. With some other VoIP solutions, you might not.)
Thank you for this app! I was already using GrooveIP with GV and had ported my AT&T mobile no. to GV. I use H20 as my cellular network as I find their $10/month pay as u go plan really fantastic. Rest of the times I use my home or office wifi and while there is no wifi i use H2O's cellular service. I was paying $40/month to AT&T, now I pay $10/month. Only suggestion now is to please also allow the bluetooth to be on when the cell goes in airplane mode.
This shuts Bluetooth off along with airplane mode: bad. Does what it says, however, the intent is to have switching be completely hands off. I am trying to use this exactly as intended, using GrooveIP at home on wifi only with cell radios off, and when I go out or get in the car, out of wifi range, have it switch the cell radios back on. Simply switching airplane mode on off when you are around wifi has the unintended consequence of shutting down Bluetooth. So when I get in the car (still on wifi) Bluetooth will be off an not connect. SO using this I still have to remember to switch Bluetooth back on every time I come home or at least before turning the car on. Add an option to keep BT on at all times and this would probably by 5 stars.
Does what it says. Has almost doubled my battery life by turning cell off when I am on wifi. LG Optimus
Nexus Galaxy. After update to Android 4.2 the app no longer turns off wireless.
This app is exactly what I need, but it doesn't seem to work on the nexus4
But...they forget to mention that once you are on wifi,you dont get text msgs
You can use other apps to control what airplane turns off. So it is working great for me.

Simple app that does the job well. The only change I'd like is to have an option to "NEVER" activate the cell radio at all. This could be represented as a "Status Check" interval of 0 perhaps? LG Shine Plus - Android 2.3.3
Pls provide automatic switching in such a way that when wify is unavailuble 3g switches on automatically and vice versa rather than switching of radio

4. Google Voice + Elastix or PBXinaflash (travelin' man) + AutoAir + a sip client. This is a great free method that's a bit more complicated to implement, but gives you many more features. There are many tutorials online. Piaf forums are helpful too.
Works flawless with a SPH-L710 with Talkatone and RingPLUS! Tried GrooVe IP but did not get SMS to be reliable, till they fix it, stayed with Talkatone. But this app is fantastic, works like it should!

Yay airplane mode with ads. >.>
This works on my S4 (4.2.2 Jelly Bean), but it will not come off of Airplane mode when WiFi goes away unless I have data on. This is annoying and kind of defeats the purpose of the app since I have to go in and turn data on anyway i might as well do airplane mode at the same time. Or, i have to have data on always. Maybe future upgrades should allow for data and cell to turn off when WiFi is available. And then both come on when WiFi is gone. Or, this could be an option.
