While I am fond of the product, I find myself incredibly disappointed that this app is so seldomly updated and that many of the most useful features that classic had were dropped for Pro, with no apparent effort to bring it back. I still recommend the device to everybody, but I think it could and should be updated more for business use.
As much as I like the service, the huge inconsistency with notifications makes this service super unusable. I've tried multiple android and iphone devices and its the same bag of hurt. A quick read of Amazon reviews shows many have issues with unreliable notifications. for example i often don't get a notification that a car has started a drive, but then suddenly get one that it has ended a drive. Not very useful.
app is not accurate. when signal is lost it tags you with a hard brake and will give you a hard acceleration when it reconnects. it will tag you with a hard acceleration when your transmission downshifts out of overdrive when passing or going up steep hills. the fact that you have to go to the dashboard and download data to see your hard brakes or accelerations is a big downer and defeats the purpose of training people to be better drivers. you need to e able to see everything on one app to be ef
It was fun for several years, to look back at my travel and fuel mileage stats. Due to privacy concerns, I am removing the device from my vehicle and app from my phone. There used to be a time that I trusted companies to keep my data private... Times have changed. Thank you Automatic for those good memories.
My original Automatic with 6 digit serial number is not recognized or compatible even with Automatic Gold. Classic app is not available. I used to appreciate being able to automatically tracky work mileage and MPG. Ridiculous that this company cannot keep a working app for devices that previously worked with no issues. I'm only giving a 1 star because: a) I did like the device/app when it worked, and b) because PlayStore won't let me give you a zero.
No Longer Supports Plug. I agree with the guy who said this is stupid. I wasted $80 on a new and original Automatic from the makers of Automatic. A piece of plastic no longer supported by any app. Apparently a classic. Unhelpful response to my review focusing on whether its a year old - doesnt mention what to do when Ive stated it is not supported by current Automatic apps. Buy a $20 Scanner/code reader instead. Dont waste your time and money on Automatic.
The maps are not detailed enough. The satellite does not update the position of the driver in accurate and in real time. If there is something out there other than this app I suggest that you get it. I don't like that you have to go outside of the app to contact the driver and tell them which direction to go in And I don't like the fact that you cannot change the view You are only seeing a bird's eye view
Linked up to my adaptor for the first time in a while to diagnose a check engine light - was so thankful i had gotten this a few years ago! it was going to save me a dealership trip! Just kidding, my adapter is no longer supported, the legacy app can't be download, and the company's solution is for me to just buy a new one. Thanks for nothing.
Beware them EOLing products because they keep forking their app and then using an excuse of the cost of supporting a "legacy" app and killing it to make your old products a paper weight. They've already done this with the Automatic (Legacy) app, making my Automatic (Classic) useless. I see no reason why they won't continue this policy - they've already come up with a new Automatic CCA app that's distinct for Automatic Pro HW vs their new CCA product. Sure, they'll send you a coupon so you can buy their new products (which require subscriptions!) but, even if you decide to buy it, they may limit their products to smaller markets - giving you zero options and leaving you out in the cold. Most other developers handle this by using a unified app for all their products. But I guess that wouldn't let them force you to upgrade to their new HW or more expensive subscription plans. I have no plans to every purchase these planned obsolescence products ever again!
So fed up of these companies bricking useful tech that was working perfectly fine just so they can extract more and more money out of you. Forget Automatic Labs and all their future products cause they will stop working after a while if you don't continue paying them. I now have a useless piece of plastic called a "classic" that was once a great tool for me.
I used to be a huge fan of this company, even convinced a few friends to grab one. then they dropped support and are turning off service for my device. so no I will not but your new device so you can charge me monthly fees and drop support and turn off the device when it's time for more money. running a company fail.
Doesn't do the monthly driving analysis anymore. Edit: Last update fixed that bug. Great app, sometimes takes a few minutes before it registers the car has moved, but I suspect it has to do with cell/GPS service.
My original Automatic device is no longer working with the original app installed on a different phone. Tried to install the latest app and my serial number is not recognized. Did they just cut off original adopters? The app I used to use is installed and works until it tries to re-register the device.
Automatic pulled support for older Automatic devices (2nd gen) without warning. No warning, no messaging, no upgrade path. I contacted the support team and was told that there will not be support for older devices moving forward It is unsettling that a company would abandon their early adopters!
Not giving any more money. Don't deprecate hardware that is still working - building new features for more recent products with better tech is fine, but plain removing an app that supports an existing product to incentivize purchase of the new one is shameful. Would rate 0 stars if I could.
Where is the app for classic? I paid for the adapter and was using without any issue now without the app what am I supposed to do with the adapter? Thanks for the response. I have 2 classic adapters which are useless now. Upgrading to newer model concerns me that you may again sunset these and force me to purchase or upgrade to newer one. I don't think this fair.
Going to upgrade to a unit from a company that knows the meaning of support. The classic app should still be available, even if it isn't actively developed. Actually though, search for "Automatic Classic APK"... it still works I do love the stock response that this company is a fan of throwaway tech. With their attitude to long term support, I wouldn't buy another product from them in the future.
Thank you for removing an unsupported app that I need to use the product I bought four years ago. The app hadn't been updated in three years. I was told that they are focusing on other things now which is funny since that app hadn't be touched in years. It didn't seem like any resources have been allocated to that app for years.
Very happy with Automatic Pro I purchased about 2 years back. I have it on my 2 cars and it has given me more than I expected when I purchased them. I purchased it primarily to know where I parked my car. In addition it gives me live status while the car is moving. Excellent! 👍
I love my first gen and second gen automatic and automatic gold and white pro adapter but I'm frustrated that they pulled all support for 1st and second gen adapters and now they do not function or work its horrible that they just forced all of use users that have the first and second gen adapters to pay even more money to buy a new adapter I think they should give us the new adapter for free since they stopped supporting the adapters we have
Sad to see them go but for those looking for an alternative check out SyncUp by T-Mobile. All of the Automatic features your used to and then some.
Used it twice for diagnosis. Very useful then. Now app says the dongle isn't supported by this app and to get the classic Automatic app. It gives you a link to that app. That app does not exist anymore. Steer clear. edit: dev answered below that app isn't available. I'm *keenly* aware of that, as that is my main complaint. Steer clear, or I guess enjoy it while it lasts.
Overall my adapter has been working well the past few years. However they recently stopped supporting it and it is disapointing. Wouldnt recommend buying any newer adapter as they will probably cut support for them eventually
I have the Automatics on my wife's Avalon, also one on my Lacrosse, last week I drove my car out of town and my wife called to tell me that my car went offline and it's been that way ever since. I uninstalled and reinstalled the app and unplugged and replugged the adapter but still no success. Who can I talk to about this problem ?
Can pass DEQ in Oregon with device and app. I was an original crowd funding backer for their first device. I purchased the upgraded device as soon as it came out. It's easy to install and you now have a tracker device for your car. It's not an app for tuners but for everything else it's the best on the market. I've kept mine through two cars and have yet to experience a major glitch or shut down. You can download your data and have it displayed in a number of useful ways as well.
