Designed to fail. Just like the classic dongle, this one soon loses contact, stops recording data and doesn't know that you are driving. If you need this for record keeping, it's worse than the classic, which after some fiddling could get to work immediately. The new ones can take days to reinstall themselves.
Got this some months back and it worked just fine until recently it starts to lose connection in places that I've driven multiple times before and it recorded in the past. It doesn't recognize when my car has started or parked it goes offline and stays offline for hours and sometimes days. its ridiculous. I've tried unplugging and plugging it back in reinstalling the app and still nothing. this thing works when it feels like it I don't know if you guys need to update ur cellular network it sucks
Automatic replaced my adapter after issues with the first one. The replacement adapter registered and logs my trips perfectly. I like the interface and am an existing user of the gold adapter on another car, the new blue adapter works just like the previous model. I like being able to log in to the web dashboard and see my history in detail, there are also some fun add-ons for data analysis.
I bought the original version of this which after a couple of years this company disabled from working. After complaining about the shadiness of disabling a product to make you buy a new one they gave me a good discount on a new one. The installation process is annoying since the app acts like you didn't install the adapter properly during set up. They need to show that it registered the adapter properly when people do. Ignoring that and the shady business practices the app works well.
Tried several times to get my adaptor to connect over the last few years. Now I reinstalled this app to try one final time and it asks for an 8 digit code on the back of the adaptor. I have a 6 digit code and it will not accept it - which tells me my device is no longer supported and was thus a waste of money. Disappointing.
I have a classic adapter, which wasn't connected to anything by my Bluetooth and worked just fine. You know what would be a great gesture? Put an app supporting that device up so I can continue to use it. I get that it won't be updated, but it would be better than nothing.
Not sure if I am connected to vehicle. Will not to connect to any app of any kind. Have not been able to use at all for anything. Reached out to customer service 3 times. Still waiting for response. It's been 48 hours and several attempts to install with no success. Customer service definitely needs an upgrade
Got a new phone. Tried installing my automatic and got slapped with 8 digit pin (I have 6 digits). Installed the classic and got slapped on my other cheek with we no longer support older version. So what? I'm forced to buy new version? I really loved this device on my truck and I'm very disappointed that I'm crippled into buying the new version or the fact that you wouldn't live the app available for older version.
Beware them EOLing products because they keep forking their app and then using an excuse of the cost of supporting a "legacy" app and killing it to make your old products a paper weight. They've already done this with the Automatic (Legacy) app, making my Automatic (Classic) useless. I see no reason why they won't continue this policy - they've already come up with a new Automatic CCA app that's distinct for Automatic Pro HW vs their new CCA product. Sure, they'll send you a coupon so you can buy their new products (which require subscriptions!) but, even if you decide to buy it, they may limit their products to smaller markets - giving you zero options and leaving you out in the cold. Most other developers handle this by using a unified app for all their products. But I guess that wouldn't let them force you to upgrade to their new HW or more expensive subscription plans. I have no plans to every purchase these planned obsolescence products ever again!
So fed up of these companies bricking useful tech that was working perfectly fine just so they can extract more and more money out of you. Forget Automatic Labs and all their future products cause they will stop working after a while if you don't continue paying them. I now have a useless piece of plastic called a "classic" that was once a great tool for me.
The second star is for nostalgia. (EDIT: changed to 1 star because of the rampant lies from the developer in responses here about only killing the 1st generation Classic. That's BS because they killed the 2nd generation also which was released years after the 1st) They used to be good. I am very disappointed in the end of life/ no longer supported practices here. I was a big fan. I bought the 1st gen adapter and really liked it. Then they said to get the 2nd gen because it's better. I eventually did. I used it and really enjoyed it. Switched to a new phone, try to download the app and its not there. Now I research and see that you are not supporting a device purchased what, 3-3.5 years ago? Really bad. I did not expect this company to try such a heavy handed move to push users into a recurring revenue model. I seriously doubt there is any technical reason for this drop in support. Convince me with benefits to subscribe and maybe I will but I hate being forced. Honestly I dont even accept making the app unsupported after this short of a period, but AT LEAST leave the app up and state that it is not supported and updated so your loyal customers can use it.
WARNING: Company discontinue support and you can't use device. They just stop supporting the devices they sell for over $100 whenever they want! It's like you pay "a one time cost" for the device... until they decide it's time for you to upgrade and they won't let you keep using the perfectly working device you already own. It won't connect to the new app, and the old app is gone! They say, "It's been years since we sold that model. You should buy a new one now." Never again!
It is pretty shady to remove the app for the 1st & 2nd gen adapter. You guys could have left it in the store for folks who still want to use it. All you had to do was state that app support for the first generation would no longer be supported without yanking it from the store.
I decided to try this against my better judgement and all the other negative feedback. Now I'm stuck with a $100 piece of plastic. Be aware, Automati does not support Audi vehicles and customer service isn't even aware of this. When I contacted them to ask, they said to just pick a model year older amd it should work. But there isn't even a choice to select an Audi vehicle. And when I wrote back to explain that I was just given a sorry, no refund, maybe you'll switch cars in the future...
Thanks for removing the classic app from the store. Really wanted to reinstall the app, only to find out that it's no longer available. Basically forcing me to buy a new adapter. What a joke. Forcing me to buy a new adapter by deleting the app is not going to make me want to buy a new one.
Same as alot of other people my old model worked perfectly well but this crappy company wants to force you to buy their new product even though the old worked fine. Don't bother with their new product as I'm sure on a year or two they will just stop supporting it as well to try and force you to buy more of their garbage. Bought a competitors works just as good as my old unit and was much cheaper then this companies new unit.
Cant use the app any longer, because it crashes right after starting up. Contacted customer service and recieved no help and no information, but did get a quick response to rate my support experience....
I got a new phone and had the Automatic Classic adapter. I can't even use it now. None of the new apps support it. 🙁 Not buying a new adapter after seeing these reviews. Oh well.
I love the feature to detect error codes. I can't delete them and it takes a while to send the code to my Google Pixel 2XL. I'd like to see improvements there and finding gas stations by names and prices. Thanks.
I use it myself, if anyone can't work it. I do I.T let me know I would love to share my great experiences with you. Everything difficult isn't impossible to figure out. Out president can figure out the country. We can definitely get a app to work. It's just positive energy
Had the original automatic they took support for the device and no longer available. Basically lost $80 as this company makes their products obsolete way too fast. Won't recommend will never buy again. The people that got your original automatic were the people that believed in you and took your company where it is today. Those people don't matter for this company and they just force you to keep buying their products.
Worked good for many years with my old adapter. Six digit code. Had to reset phone and download new app and it won't accept six digit codes. Just tells me to download the same app.
2 years is a short time to brick "smart" tech. Avoid this product unless you want it to disappear without notice (to get you to upgrade)
Circular logic. It tells me to get the Automatic PRO version, then redirects me to the app I already have. No other app to download. Making everything useless.
It is really bad to buy a product then you realise that the company just stopped supporting the product. That mean you lost your money. Crazy company and crazy thinking. Just lost my money.
Purchased an automatic device which turned out to be an "automatic classic" which apparently isn't supported in Android 10
They removed the classic app forcing me to upgrade a perfectly good workkng system , and to pay monthly for the same thing I used to have for free , and I have to buy a new dongle!
The new update live tracking is a lot slower need to go back. Take to long to show new position.
Always says I have "No connection" when I try to log in, even though I'm writing this review right now on the same device. Completely useless.
Not liking this update. It is not accurate as the previous. For example, there are instances when, in one day, I went to several destinations in my car (and yes I actually parked/turned off the car at each destination) yet the app showed only one trip and did not show the others. This has happen on several occasions with this update version. The previous version was VERY accurate. Never missed a trip.
