the set up process is the worst I've ever had for a device. it never works. have to keep retrying it over and over, last time it took about an hour. once set up it works great, but having to spend an hour or two to set it up is unacceptable and deserving of 1 star
It worked fine for a while, then it stopped working for months. Now I finally got it to work, but the fuel I put is 91 premium. I check that but it always goes back to the lowest 87 regular. So the price calculation is not accurate. You guys need to fix that so it stays on which type of gas you use. Never stays
This is so frustrating. I remember when my brother bought this for Xmas one year... Got 'em for all the family cars. He was so proud of a really cool new product, and it really was just that. Still have them working on several vehicles. I now drive my dad's old LC but can't for the life of me get it to work on my phone... It syncs then gets stuck in a loop trying to verify pin... There really needs to be support for legacy users.
The hardware and app stopped working reliably. Have not used for a year

Unusable. Why did I waste. 99 dollars on this? Won't connect. Dissapointed! Theft I tell ya. Stay away from this company. They don't care clearly.

It used to pair immediately without issues, but now it just sits there timing out. Also, if you remove the default vehicle from the web portal the app can't switch to the other vehicle as the default; it keeps telling me to setup again without giving me the option to use the other vehicle already in the system. And don't even get me started on the inability to change password from the website - you have to use a link to reset it.
It's absolutely ridiculous that the support for the first gen has expired and now want users to pony up more for the next gen model. This tracker misses more and more trips now and is forcing users to upgrade. I only bought it one year ago and it's disheartening to see why they made this move. From the looks of it the new device adds only LTE and the rest of the hardware is pretty much the same.
Ever since support for the Kickstarter "classic" adapter was dropped, it has made its way to my glovebox, since it is pretty useless now. If the devs would open up the API for the classic model, maybe someone will take the initiative to make an app so we can still use our adapters. Maybe they could show is all the things we thought we'd get when purchasing, that never materialized. $99 for a $15 piece of kit, and not supported for long. That's sad.
This app is terrible. As many people stated, the developer do not care about gen 1 and force the consumer to upgrade to the newer model. save yourself money and time by getting a superior product. Well.... Even a $5 obo scanner will do better then Automatic
I bought the original classic (silver) and now it is not supported. I specifically bought it for the 3g feature, and would promote the product to everyone. Then they come up with the pro (gold) and take away feature from the classic one (like the 3g). Now I'm stuck with an expensive check engine code reader. I wish the company stands by their first customers and return the 3g. Its only right for the price and advertisement that was promoted. I understand a company making new version and updates, but not at the cost of its original products and customers. Integrity goes a long way. Wish the company much success, but truely hope they address this big diservice.
The app worked wonderfully for a long time, now it seems to constantly be missing trips. It hasn't captured any of my drives for over a week. It looks like many people are having the same problem with the first gen adapter. Seems like Automatic has stopped supporting this version of the app. Really bummed.
On Android 8.1 I can't set up an adapter anymore because the setup process gets stuck in an infinite loop of (enter adapter code, allow app to manage Bluetooth, enter adapter code, etc). Absolutely horrible.
Great idea poorly implemented. It is impossible to get the app to connect to the dongle most of the time. ***update The app and device's ability to detect the device via Bluetooth is virtually nil. Android says that the app is consuming power 24x7 but that does not seem to help. I feel like I totally wasted my money. I have tried completely uninstalling all components and at best will work once or twice then never again.
Was crashing my Nexus 5x now it refuses to connect the device I had 1st gen. "Connected reffused" error. Fed up with it messing g up my day.
After two automatic no more this is a pain to get it to work with Android. Worry moving on to something else.
It's OK, only problem is what it considers a hard braking, one trip bag logged a hard brake on a long stretch of road I travel where there is no need for braking. It gets annoying with so many false hard braking logs
Uodate: doesn't work for anything but fault codes. Seeing the drop off of support would not recommend. Previously: Nice features, a little concerned about privacy (deleting history). Unfortunately it has stopped working and tech support hasn't fixed.
Worst waste of money ever.. Says hard brakes all the time even when not using them by stopping using gravity on a hill... Stupid nag waste dont buy.
Great item but they need to send users the new one now that the old one isnt supported. It's a rip-off that we have to pay for the new one. Fix this Automatic Labs.
Came with the used car I bought and I tried using it, but it would get stuck at verifying the pin.
App stopped collecting trips from the until. Last sync was Feb 20 the and I can't get it work anymore. Seems to be problem others have had. Needs better support. Read these reviews before buying.
Poor support for older hardware versions. Misses many trips and requires re-pairing. I don't use it anymore and just keep it around as a check engine code reader. Company needs a better legacy hardware strategy, but I'm sure they are following the money.
I don't want to but the next gen. But I still want support
Worked great for a while, but ever since getting a new phone and car it will no longer pair with the adapter. It just spins and spins at step 2 of setup: "connecting to the adapter". Judging from all the other negative reviews here, and the lack of response from Automatic, I'm not hopeful this device or this service will ever work again.
