This app and the associated light switches are complete junk. My phone stopped connecting to them a while back. My wife's phone was the only one that would work. Then she got a new phone and now nothing will connect to these ridiculous switches. Hey support, I saw your unhelpful response about firmware updates. How am I supposed to update the firmware if I can't connect to the switches!?!? I don't use the app once the switches are set up and there's no notification of a firmware update. I guess I'm supposed to open the app every now and then to check? You really need to get with the program and figure out how to make an app that's usable if you require updates to continue using switches. I'm going with another brand because this is one of the worst product experiences I've ever had. The switches are junk and so is this app.
Love this!! It has lots of features and information content while still keeping a clean simple look...Well done...Looking forward to selling and upgrading future systems. For the person that left a 1 star review I had the same issue at first but when I went to account settings and "checked in" the app synced right away. Small issue with auto "check in".
This is the only app I can use for my GE bluetooth switch. It was fine when all I wanted to do was turn on an indoor fixture from a different room. Now that I use the switch (inside) to control an outdoor light, scheduling is important. Sadly, scheduling is terrible. Time is only "on the 15s". While you can schedule for sunrise or sunset, there is no way for the schedule to do "30 minutes before sunset".
This app is terribly written. It has to connect to their web site to allow you to use Bluetooth to turn on your light. When it does work, it takes way too long to log in. When login fails, it just says"connecting" in a modal window that keeps me from accessing my lights switch. And this was not an"open box return" as they claim work other reviews.
Constant connectivity issues. Both "firmware update" AND "complete refresh" were done, but connectivity issues persist. Sometimes I can connect in a few seconds, other times it can take as long as a minute. Some days, I just can't connect at all. And I'm not using multiple devices and/or multiple controllers. I have a single Avi-on device and a single controller (smartphone). UPDATE: Hello Avi-on Labs, as you stated, this is a review platform. I'm not seeking support here, as I already went through all the applicable help steps outlined on your support page. I'm just trying to provide my experience with your app so that current/potential users can aggregate this review along with the hundreds of others and come to their own conclusion.
What happened to this app? i used it last year for Christmas lights. no issues at all. and now, in using it again, it takes forever to connect and more often then not, I need to restart my Bluetooth to get it to work. I see the app devs have a "connecting?" FAQ now, so something must be going on. this needs to be looked into. the app was not in this poor condition a year ago. And yes, I updated the firmware and it's still slow and takes forever to connect.
This is not a user friendly app. I just bought the switch and it took forever to figure out that it needed a firmware update. I was ready to pull the switch out and return it. Lucky I have an IT guy in the family. This kind of thing should be automatic or at least explained in the app instead of just being unable to connect. Communication is key to a good app. It works as described once updated but it should not require an IT expert to get it working right out of the box.
The only complication I had was receiving my confirmation email - which after contacting their support, emailed me back within minutes and fixed that issue. The switch works perfectly, just remember to update the firmware! Anyone giving this a 2 star for setup problems is probably "Technologically illiterate" and I'm shocked they could actually leave a review
I do not like this app at all. The switch is outside and the app will not connect to it from inside the house, so I have to be outside standing next to the plug before I can turn the lights on manually or add a new schedule. On the list of why the app might not be connecting, no where does it say you need to be in very close proximitity to plug.
I don't understand all the negative reviews on this app. I don't know if these people are sitting on the other side of the house try to program the plug, have $50 Walmart phones or what, but this app doesn't have any problems on my phone and works everytime I use it. It has many cool features that allow you to set schedules, have random times for the plug to turn on and off, or just plain turn the lights on in your basement without actually having to go down there.
As most all others have said, the app and the product it is supposed to run are not worth your time. I'm sure they will post something about following their "detailed" directions to update firmware. Here's the thing. The app needs to first connect to their product in order to do that, and the number one problem is that it can never find the product on the network. Hence, no option for this much lauded update. Edit: I got the thing yesterday. And you are blaming your customers. We've moved on.
Unbelievably horrible app and equipment. Can't get past "Connecting" no matter what I do, and app won't connect to freshly reset device and new account from 2" away. I'm a Sr. embedded engineer that develops ble mesh devices and apps as my profession (I know the technology well), and this has to be the worst combo of eqpt and app I've ever seen. With earlier app version, I was notified the module firmware needed update. I tried constantly and app could never update the firmware.
I agree with the other 322 one star reviews. Product does not work. I had the account set up and tried the firmware update and it did not finish. The app could not confirm the update was finished. Now I can not even log into my account it just says error getting account info. I have reset my password multiple times and reinstalled the app multille times. I am done spending any more time with this. Very frustrating!
Worked well until it won't connect to lights....now my sunset to sunrise lights come on in the middle of the day and I can't control them. I have since gotten a new phone. Tried from both Android and IPhone to connect(only having one device with app at a time like instructions say). Followed instructions, rebooted phones, and cycled airplane mode, Uninstaller and reinstalled app. Still doesn't work.
takes forever to connect, and customer supports only response is to say "oh you're so silly, you didn't update to the latest firmware!" and yet, they have no idea if you did or didn't. well, I DID update my device to the latest firmware, it was the first thing I did, and it still takes forever to connect! the issue is that this app is trying to collect as much info about your phone as it can and will not let the app proceed until the info is transferred back to their servers.
Stay away from anything that uses this app. The app no longer connects to my device. Edit: did some troubleshooting with their support and was made to feel like it was my fault. Things should not brick when you miss an update. Mine is in the garbage controlling nothing. The support was super fast which I do appreciate.
Having to login just to turn out a light switch is more complicated and harder to do than flipping a switch on the wall. Not a good experience. If they got rid of having to use a password and username to log into the app that controls the light things would be much better.
Expensive and useless for most. So, let me get this correct, a premium price for a switch, pay the electrician, then have to update your firmware which is super finicky, and only other option is to wait up to 6 weeks after mailing in this failure for your update and Covid-19 delay excuse on top... all on a login required/proprietary software handcuff for a simple Bluetooth device. Apparently it does work if stars align, or one wastes valuable time on the poor user experience. Cmon, do better
i purschased an outdoor plug, the product itself seems fine, the app is a different story. i have had good results on my Chromebook so far. On my Android phone its glitchy at best. I highly suggest if you have an Android phone do NOT purchase any item rewiring this app until the developers fix this issue.
it's just ok, whish I would of knoned the app (you have to sign up for) is only OK, before I bought the GE plugin outdoor switch (price $50, I got it on sale on amazon for $20) timer option is very confusing to set up. don't even know if it's going to work (bought this for Christmas lights, don't think it's going to do what I thought it could do)
I love this with the GE outdoor plugs. I have a whole house full of echo dots and smart bulbs and plugs and we love our setup but if the internet is down, so is our capability to control the system. these outdoor plugs I can use in areas that are too far off to connect to my wifi and the bluetooth range with my samsung galaxy s9+ is amazing! much better than any of my other bluetooth devices. my major concern is that the app sticks around being they are dependent on them.
Waste money. Settings for 2018 are very rudimentary at best. It's not very user friendly and functionality limited, example cannot set dimmer level. Also keep getting error statements that app is running in background and then errors? It's about 10x per day. Overall should have done more research and choose different mfg
It does what it says it does. Not very intuitive for a non technical person. Do not use for things you need to power on/off quickly, as it sometimes can take up to 2 minutes to connect...and sometimes requires an app restart. Overall I'm happy with it.
Specifically bought a bluetooth only device so I would not have to connect through wifi. The app will not even start without a wifi connection and registering an account. This is absolutely unnecessary for a bluetooth device. Advice to developers: make registration/ internet connection optional (check out "Govee Home" app).
I have done the firmware update and I have a compatible device. This worked until I had to reinstall the app late May. Now it's stuck on the connecting screen. Flawed product. I will happily update this review if it works again but from seeing the other reviews, I have doubts.
Alright device but the app stinks on many levels. Bought the product on a discount and now I know why. Set it up a few weeks ago and it worked just fine for a little over a week. Then it worked intermittently, as far as schedules. Now it just completely stopped working. The app won't connect anymore either. Also why do I have to "skip" adding a new device every single time I access the device. Every time, even when the device worked? Horrible UI and app development.
