AWC Span Calc
Maximum horizontal spans for joists and rafters are calculated based on the following assumptions and conditions:
· Joists and rafters are oriented to support vertical loads applied to the narrow (1.5 in. thick) face of the member, resulting in strong-axis bending. · At least three joists or rafters are installed parallel to one another and spaced not more than 24 inches on-center, with properly designed sheathing attached on the top (compression) edge of each joist or rafter. · Joists and rafters are single-span with adequate structural support at each end. The Span Calculator does not address cantilevered joists and rafters, multiple-span joists and rafters, or spliced joists and rafters. · For joists and rafters, most building codes specify a minimum bearing length of 1.5 inches on wood or metal and not less than 3 inches on masonry or concrete. These minimum bearing lengths are to be used in the absence of calculated bearing lengths. Consult the local building code for specific requirements. · Joists and rafters carry only combinations of dead load plus live load (D + L), dead load plus snow load (D + S), or dead load plus roof live load (D + Lr). The Span Calculator does not address wind load or seismic load. · Buildings in regions with ground snow loads greater than 70 psf should not use the prescriptive provisions of the governing building code without approval of the authority having jurisdiction. Buildings in these high snow zones should be designed in accordance with accepted engineering practice.

Never seen an app this slow. It's like every touch starts a request back to the server and freezes the app while it waits for a response. Tip: the functionality of the calculator on the website is the same, but faster since it doesn't do a reload every time you click something, just for the result.
This app used to be so handy and useful on all of my Samsung phones! Now it will not work at all on my Note 9. I have tried it again and it still won't work. I used to really love this app! PS - works great on my pc. Update - it just locked up my phone again. And yes I would try to help any way that I am able to fix it. I don't know how to contact you directly.
Does not work on my Moto G7. For some reason, this app, after opening, does nothing and freezes. I use the web based version often and read that the app had some updated span criteria. Guess I'll have to stick with the web version.
I just loaded the 20Mar update. App crashed on first use. They need to roll back to old version while they are fixing the worst version upgrade ever. Absolutely worst version upgrade ever experienced. Don't down load this tool!!!!
WAS the best of its kind, but now it's not working. EDIT: GREAT AGAIN. Just freezes, both beta and regular; have Pixel 2xl on 10, and your Samsung fix didn't work magic on my phone. Glad you added 2x4, but please fix, need! Previous: Only one suggestion: could you add smaller dimensional lumber for indoor/small projects (e.g. raised floor)? Looking everywhere for info using 2x3s/2x4s to frame 5'x7' raised bedroom floor. Thanks much.
Freezes as soon as you try to make any selection. Disappointing, especially considering I would pay for an app like this. Completely useless.
Very slow, can't find a beam calculation function on it. So slow that I don't have time to search more within the app.
Sometimes you just need a clear answer... I use this app a dozen times a week, or more. I am doing renovations and I like to shop lumber on sale. This span calculator has helped me avoid buying stuff I don't need
Since the new update the screen either turns black or doesn't load or if it does load it doesn't do anything it moves very slow can you fix this or give us our money back
Used to work great then they updated and now its extremely laggy or freezes completely. Absolutely unusable.
I updated and it still will not work. I used to love this app when I purchased it but, now it freezes every time I try to use it my Galaxy S10.
Installed app, wouldn't let me change any inputs and kept crashing, glad it was free.
It freezes upon selecting wood species. Using Samsung Note 9 and latest OS version.

Calculation are spot on for standar joist too bad it does not calculate gluelam beams . Or this would be a 5 star

Could not use even once. Downloaded, opened, and it froze and almost froze up my phone completely. Using Samsung Note 9 also. Unfortunately I will be uninstalling. Update 7/3/2020 Thank you for responding. I tried the app again and yes, now it appears to be working just fine. It looks to be a very detailed app and I look forward to trying it out again soon.
