Doesn't use my native keyboard. Slow and cumbersome. Doesn't sync web and app progress. Had to do the "leveling" twice and didn't even get the same things. Web version sound effects can not be turned off, this is annoying and a no go. Automatic resuscription can not be turned off without cancelling the account so I have to set a reminder to cancell it later. In app corrections are bad cause they don't accept seemengly equal responses and doesn't correct orthography.
Really easy to use, but could REALLY do with the option to slow down the speakers as they can speak very fast, and although I can generally understand, it would be fantastic to slow them down occasionally. UPDATE the developer has advised that tapping thenspeaker symbol twice slows the voice down (thank you SO much - tried it, and it works perfectly!!) Therefore adjusted my review to 5 stars 😘👍
Really nice app to learn a new language. One suggestion, I like to replay a course once I completed them, but sometimes I don't want to redo all the parts of the course. For example, I just want to redo the conversation part. It would be nice to add a skip button within a course, once it had been completed once
Really good application, and inclusive, all kind of humans are showed in the pictures which is really really nice ! Thanks for that :-) If the team is searching news ways to improve the application : The only thing which would be good to improve is the delay, when you complete an exercise the time required before the next question or the answer is a bit too long and it's frustrating as it's slower than your natural rythm and the keyboard is not so well sensitive
At the beginning learning with Babbel works quite okay. The reason why I don't use it as much anymore is the horrible repetition algorithm. They talk about "spaced repetition" but compared to other apps (like Anki) it just doesn't work. Also it only makes you repeat sentences, not the grammar. The lessons and explanations are quite good but for me repetition is the most important part 😕. I'd love to change this review once this improves.
How many times can one repeat "El Zumo" before you accept it as the correct pronunciation? That is only one example of various, disparate quirks in your Android app. This does not happen on the IOS app. I prefer Android, but you make this a bit difficult for me. I will email support with some specifics. I now have a better understanding of this error: The Microphone function is becoming hung. This is happening on a Samsung A32 5G, both Pre & Post Factory-Reset.
I'm really unhappy that I've been offered a free weeks trail but they have made it hard (or maybe impossible) to cancel the subscription. There is nowhere on the app to manage the subscription I.e. cancel, and when you go to desktop and log in it takes my straight to the app. The developers know what they are doing and I feel tricked. I set up in a similar way through Duolingo and they are very transparent about costs and make it easy to manage your subscription.
I started this app after being familiar with Dutch. It might be a good starting app but the strict spelling is a nightmare. I can't spell this well in my native language and the perfection it demands is off-putting. I don't see how the strict mode could make it any more strict. One blank to me signals one word not two to four. It's not intuitive at all. Constantly missing things I already know just leaves me frustrated and unable to practice what I need. Too much bloat during practice
I personally think this app is one of the best language learning apps out there. But something I'd really love to see would be a way to look back at the hints you receive every now and then and the option to practice vocabulary freely (outside of the app's schedule). Aside from that, really helpful!
It goes on and on with phrases then grammar of irregular verbs without the ability to enter phrases you would like to say and hear the pronunciation and see the spelling. For example, soft butter,... Beurre doux. Deux vs. Doux. I could go on with many examples, but you get the idea. Just another company that wants to own you as long as possible, rather than build a loyalty based on function provided. Now, I have to find out how to cancel and let the time run out. Not available in PROFILE.
I love Babbel, I only recently started using it and it's been fantastic. My only gripe with the app is that no matter how loud I speak into the microphone, the app does not recieve the audio and keeps telling me to try again. I even tried using a mic on headsets and it did the same thing. I even increased my microphone settings in the app itself and that did nothing. Because of this, I can't even really practice verbally which is very disappointing. Other than that the app is very informative.
In general I like the app, but without a search option, reviewing weak areas is quite frustrating, as it's very difficult to know which lesson to return to, based on Babbel's woefully inadequate descriptions. Navigation of the app is painfully less than intuitive, and there is no apparent option for contacting a support team member....
The app is well worth the money. It costs the same as Duolingo but has way more content. It actually teaches you language rules and what people would actually say in casual conversation as opposed to what is expected to be said. However, I would like to see a streak system and backtracking of progress like what Duolingo has. I find it much more engaging.
I've tried for years, on and off, to learn Russian (I'm British, by the way). I've tried multiple other apps and wasted a lot of money to get no where. I'll be honest, I think the tag-line "we can get you speaking another language in 3 weeks" feels pretty unachievable (unless you're putting 5+ hours a day into it), but I'm so happy with my progress. Would 100% recommend. And I have recommended
babble is great and easy to use it's fun and I'm able to learn Spanish using it. only recommendation would be that there should be more of a recommended sequence of learning because I'm kind of all over as far as level of Spanish knowledge. one lesson will be very hard speaking full sentences that are hard to repeat the next is counting to 15 very easy
I still have to write it down repeatedly what I want to study. I learn by writing the would several times I had the app for 4 or more weeks and having to go back on earlier lessons to refresh my memory. Could be because I am older and forgetful at times. If you could adjust to help senors that would be great. I love learning and I'm 65. And took Spanish in school had two years. Want be able to Babel to resident Spanish speaking people.
Not bad, wish the vocab practice included all the words and expressions presented in the lessons, not just a few key words. Also, it did not customize my lessons based on the survey I took right before subscribing. I have to find the content manually but it's no big deal.
It just told me that I mispronounced "mmmm". I got the only Spanish word in the sentence correct, but apparently I am doing a sound that is impossible to lose in translation incorrectly. Otherwise I love this app. I went immediately to the paid version so o can't speak for the free content, but I personally am not disappointed with my purchase.
I had a difficult time figuring out how to cancel my subscription but I left a message here and was contacted right away. Their customers service was amazing. Issue fixed within a day! BTW, I started the subscription for a trip to Paris to get "an ear for the language." I've cancelled for the time after the trip. The podcasts were a great help and I learned plenty of vocabulary.
Regarding voice recognition: Trying to learn Spanish I was expected to say "nosotras, nosotros". After countless attempts I said the first word only and it was recognised successfully. I could reproduce this. Clearly the written text didn't match what I was expected to say (Ticket #7189477). Beginner level is really basic. Spending hours with thanking and greeting, you likely know without speaking the language seems like a time waster. German gender lanuage is another negative. Back to English.
The lessons are well organized, and build well upon past lessons. It's great at teaching vocabulary, and sentence structure. The biggest issue is to actually combine everything across the lessons to the point you could actually assemble a conversation. I think it needs more ability to test you, outside of a specific lesson, on assembling sentences that quiz you on things from multiple of the various lessons at a given time.
I used the website version years ago and liked it, but I paid for 6 months on the app and I'm not really liking it at all. The voice recorder doesn't seem to hear me half the time, but the real issue is with the keyboard. If I'm supposed to be using different punctuation for you to accept the answer, it shouldn't be nearly impossible to FIND said punctuation in the keyboard (or accents for that matter). I also couldn't find how to test out of all the beginner lessons, so am having to go again.
It's definitely one of if not the best linguistics apps out there in my opinion (I've tried a few). Especially if you're interested in a language that isn't as common as the big ones like French or Spanish. Personally I'm learning Swedish, and it feels like there's a lot more focus on the useful everyday topics, which is really pragmatic as opposed to learning a bunch of random vocabulary. Would definitely recommend it to anyone interested in it.
I was enjoying, but I don't want or require to learn Spanish and Latin American just Spanish!!!! Its just confusing and frustrating, two words meaning same at the same time???. I want to learn but It is taking me 3 times as long to get through courses. So I leave it for days. 2 steps forward 10 steps back. Not easy at all. 3 stars 🌟 only as at the start was great. Now I'm so frustrated. 1 language is all I ask for.
I'm learning Danish at the moment and I do like the fact that you need to pronounce the words correctly before moving on but there needs to be some sort of leeway for beginners. I've been stuck on one single word for two days, even though I can't hear a different pronunciation from the example. Also doesn't help with Not Understood, two seconds after pressing the record button. Seems to be a common problem. It's hard to want to keep going when there's no clear explanation of why you're wrong
This five stars is for refund support. I found the Babbel interface nice and beginner friendly. Too beginner friendly for me, because it was difficult for me to find things for my level. Though I had not had a free trial, after barely using the site, I thought "what the heck I'll ask for a refund." To my astonishment they were understanding and promptly refunded my money! Babbel seems to be an excellent tool for beginners though and the way they handled my refund request was professional.
Its the best app, I can recommend anyone to learn a new language. Its truely amazing, as the courses are designed with an effort to involve oneself from a very basic level to an advanced one. It covers various sessions, such as speaking, writing, reading and listening. It is user friendly and very easy to pick a topic of your choice and engage yourself.
