Backgammon

Game play is great. Obviously not random dice rolls, not so much. Takes all of the fun out of it when cpu almost always gets rolls it needs to hit you and you can go several turns without getting the roll you need in the same situation. Oh it always getting double 5's and 6's at the perfect time. I've played hundreds of times now so not a small sample size. When I play a desktop backgammon game, it feels like luck can go either way. Not with this app.

I've played this game for a number of years and complained about the computer's doubling strategy and overall skill level. since the updates, it plays much better with more sensible doubling and playing skill. I'm still winning regularly at level 6 and 7 but it's better. It still does some stupid moves or rather non-moves like leaving pieces in my home table when I'm bearing off leaving the CPU open to a triple scoring backgammon.

I enjoyed a free game better. It feels that as you make the level more difficult the CPU gets more lucky with rolls. The free game was more challenging and the moves more complex as you went up in levels. It is really easy to make a mistake with moves as well, no undo button for the second move just the first

game has the best interface of any backgammon game out there. however, and too bad, the dice are absolutely not random. it plays to levels- there's no other way to control that. overall, say if you play to 100 games, the game at level 7 is set to about 75% wins. it won't let you beyond that...

No one human is as lucky as AI. It's not just about throwing doubles, but the timing in combo with positioning. End of game AI starts tossing double 6's, to the point where if I'm not well ahead, I know I'm going to lose. Nobody is that lucky in real life. Imo It's not "AI" that wins in level 7, but it's uncanny ability to toss the exact dice needed. But I can't proof it, they insist the dice are random. Like trying to prove a vaccine did or didn't work. Can't be done.

This was great game. But since last update it seems dice rolls are weighted to the CPU. And doubles...I mean the number of doubles rolled is very high and again weighted to CPU getting doubles when bearing off. Is this a bug in the update as it is no longer fun to play the challenge seems to have gone...

I don't mind being beaten at the highest levels, makes for great game play. But this game has loaded dice at the highest levels. Multiple doubles, exact numbers needed to win. Too coincidental to be happening so often. So, unless it can be proven otherwise, the CPU cheats.

The developers will say otherwise, but the game does often "cheap" on level 5. I notice it mostly when the app needs an unlikely combination to put my piece on the bar early in the game. The rolls may be "random" but at the highest level they appear to be anything but. UPDATE: 3/20/2022. Years later and THOUSANDS of games played and the games still "cheats" at the highest levels. What do you think makes it better at a higher level? The only thing the game can do is get better rolls. LOL 😆

I have been using this app first as the free version and then afew years later as the pro version since 1990 give or take a year. I know they claim the CPU doesn't cheat it is hard to believe it doesn't. That having been said this is pretty good app. I am sticking with it after 40 plus years play.

Over the years I've used many backgammon apps but this one is the best; clean interface and challenging AI. I'm playing at level 7 and currently ahead in matches won though the game count is close. During play the AI plays a similar strategy to me so it's often down to the luck of the dice at the end (yes, I've lost to lucky doubles but I've also won with them!). Only 'complaint' would be that I did win one game by an avoidable backgammon. Very happy with my purchase of the Pro version😊

I have spent a lot of time playing this game. One thing is absolutely clear: The only way for the AI to match a good human player is by the manipulation of the dice results. It's sad to see but I guess there's no other way for the game to challenging.

Best on the market. Would like a simple online version we're I could invite a player by email. The autoplay off not always using the optimal play for example. If you have a 2 blots on 6 and you throw a 6-1 . It will play the 6 to the 5 slot then play the 6 rather than play 1 to 5 then the 6 off. When a play off is tight I can win a game I lost by replaying it. it would be nice to be able to rename the CPU.

This game irks me. The cpu gets doubles several times in a row, and many times throughout the game. I get doubles when I can't use them and when I have two men left. Can't tell me it's not rigged!

Too easy to beat at highest level of play. Update 2022-My sample set for the highest level is 300+ games so far. I am currently at 3 to 1 in match wins. I play 7 point matches. Statistically speaking, the game seems to favor player dice rolls over cpu in both rolls won and doubles. With more play, I'll see if this normalizes. Cube play is better, but still not good. Moves to early to double and can be tricked to double cube as well.

I enjoy the pro version but have one improvement to suggest. During bear off, it will leave one blot inside my inner board even though it has no chance to hit any of mine. That leaves it vulnerable to a lucky double when I have four men left, which could lead to a triple game loss. Any human would get that blot out of there ASAP to avoid that.

I haven't reviewed for a long time, but I'm on a new phone, and this app has frozen a number of times. I usually have to uninstall/ reinstall when it gets stuck. It's not a huge deal because I'm not online, but irritating because I like the matches to go to 11 or 15. Anyway, fix it so it doesn't freeze, please. This has been my go- to for time wasting for a long time.

Idk why these games would be rigged bc no one would want to play. I want to know why when I'm bearing off chips the CPU gets all the breaks. When CPU is bearing off it takes several rolls for me to move my chips. I just want an honest game.

great game, feels as if the cpu gets the right dice in crucial moments. I play at level 5 if that makes a difference. i also paid the 5$ for no adds so thats cool😄

This is an update to a review I left earlier. Problem not completely fixed for me yet, but I want to give 5 stars for a company that responds immediately and offers helpful ways to fix it. I feel like they will help me get this right.

Pretty decent backgammon experience. Various skill levels let you find your comfort zone. Fun way to wile away some time while waiting... waiting... doctor's offices, lineups, bus travel, etc.

Playing at level 7 computer leaves chip in back court, taking a backgammon even when it could have moved out of back court. That's a dumb move even for level 1!

Buy percentage of games I still beat level 7 but still find opponent has luckiest dice roll results of any opponent I have played in over 40 years. As this version has not been tested buy GLI, AI Factory keeps stating it has been tested by GLI, I intend to report AI Factory to the GLI Commission for making false declarations. AI Factory has and continues to make false and misleading statements in reference regarding GLI tests of systems. This version HAS NOT been tested buy GLI.

Been playing this game for years, great user interface, be good if could play again other players and not just AI.

It took over a day for the app to show on all my devices but all resolved satisfactorily, thank you. Great app which my 5-year old loves using to improve his backgammon skills.

Still 2 stars. It's not the number of double dice rolls that's off, as the developers like to tout as a benchmark. The cheat is in the AI. When a double is accepted, good dice turn bad, usually on the next roll. If I take the cumbersome path of using my own dice, I typically win.
