Has always worked as it's meant to but could be improved, eg, notifications of transactions would be better if they said which retailer they were from/to. The same with direct debits (or even better, be able to personalise them). A round up facility would also be useful to encourage savings, as would having savings pots. Ads are annoying - if I need a new product I'm sure I'll be able to find it in the app. Overall, no real issues with it, it's worked every time and is easy to use but is basic.
Really annoying that when viewing transactions the app doesn't show you your balance after each transaction. If you want to know what your balance was on particular date then forget it. A very simple thing that's missing, but included in the apps of most other high street banks.
Can be slow and clunky. Don't expect to easily update details as the cursor jumps to the end of the line when you try to change text I was trying to change some reference text. When a character was deleted, the cursor jumped to the end of the line. Just wanted to delete a letter and replace it, not have to keep moving the cursor around. It's simple word processing really
*Edit* Added - Thank you for the response. I should have also mentioned that it would be great to be able to connect my card to Google Pay. Don't see why this can't be done when you can connect your account to Nectar. Original - My only issue which stops a higher rating is that contactless payments don't always works. Sometimes you have to log in to the app before you pay and sometimes you don't. Nothing to do with my settings, just a dodgy app. Everything else is ok though.
Generally the rendering between the various services is a little clunky and could be more streamlined, Also the icons and text indicating different options are very small, expecially along the footer, and I suspect for the more visually challenged of us, could be made to be much more prominent. The use of non-contrasting colours between the text and background is an odd choice (on an ipad). The icons without labels on the header are 'design/aesthetic beats usability' The layout overall of the transactions space is quite good
Much easier to use than the website. Very good UI. Update: removing 2 stars until tha awful cheque paying in is sorted: it mostly refuses to take a photo despite cheque clearly visible, in focus and inside lines against requestes dark background. Frustrating and completely useless. Just give us a button so we can take it please. On the rare occasions it takes a pic, the result is distorted - edges cut off, looks like it was at an angle - that's NOT what was on the screen. Truely awful feature.
Very slow app and confusing. It takes ages to open and at least half the times I use it, I have to re-agree to their terms and conditions, so annoying! I bank also with other Banks and it's a whole different planet, I never have to agree to anything and they're quick and simple to use. Update: Haven't used it in years, went back for a transaction, so glad I don't use it anymore. This app is just frustrating and time consuming. Nothing has changed.
I have now dropped to a 3 star rating from 5 star. It is getting really annoying when I'm in a queue and contactless doesn't work. I have to log in, agree to something, turn something else on, basically endless rubbish. When I do all this it works the next time but not after that until I go through it all again. Please fix this Barclays and I'll put you back up to 5. Many thanks
It is annoying being asked to agree to T&C over and over again. The NFC option for payments is very slow and outdated compared to other ways out there: you need to log into the app.. Agree to whatever comes on the screen.. Then quickly change screen on the app since by default your personal details come on making the experience very uncomfortable. Needless to say I don't use this app to make payments (although can't deny it has come handy when I forgot my wallet and didn't have my card on me).
Used the app now for 2+ years, never really had any sort of issues outside of the app crashing on rare occasions. I will warn you that older android machines, like my Samsung tab A, are not supported. Making payments is super easy and fast, but would like to see more available banks in the linking feature as my other savings accounts can't be linked yet. Easy to open accounts and thank god for the app notifications on payments/crediting. Great for online payments too.
Generally expect better from barclays, needing physical cards on hand to validage transfers, and the utterly useless contactless (3 uses and then if you happen to not have a signal you're out of service), the inconsistent use of pin sentry. Unnecessarily difficult to add to multiple devices (say when going abroad and wanting a backup to still access accounts just in case), doesn't work on older devices, gives an error suggesting you just need to try again. Barclays must try harder!
Overall ok, but some issues. For example, it is literally impossible to fill in the necessary details for a new standing order because when switching between the app and docs my phone to copy/paste account or reference numbers - the app always goes back to home screen and I have to start again. Developers, please do some more real life testing with this app and see yourself what is practical and what not.
I've used this app since it first appeared, and found things nice and straightforward... until recently. The ap updated automatically and has now become much slower to start up (32 seconds at last count) and is using 100mb more storage than it did when new, for what I consider unnecessary features. Remember the old adage "If it ain't broke, don't fix it" !!
This app takes so long to load that using it to confirm my ID in branch holds up the queue! It's very annoying. Also, when trying to enter the code to unlock it, it automatically fills in the first number, meaning I misstype the code. This could lead to people getting locked out of the app. UPDATE: Thank you for the reply, I will rejig my device storage to see if that helps.
Excellent app, can do everything I need to do without visiting the bank at a touch of a button safely and quickly. Also like the instant notification each time money goes out of the account so you can check for fraud. Its just so much more convenient. Pity taking a picture of cheques being paid online doesn't always work.
Just want to use contactless on my mobile . It doesn't work. Tried setting up on app and it always says something went wrong. Trying to get a reply from the chat service is a myth 🙄 Edit: got help in the phone finally I was instructed to upgrade app after they removed a security setting their side. All ok now. Second Edit: This has happened again. Exact same problem 5 months later
The Barclays app is really easy to use once you find your way around and I've generally been happy with it over the years. However if you have an older phone you may get stuck, as I did, when the app asks you to update by reinstalling it. I was given two options - Register or New to Barclays - neither of which were relevant to an existing customer. I tried to Register but got T0016 'not registered'. My only answer - a new phone! I guess my phone was getting on a bit.. but irritating.
With how hard you are trying to push mobile banking you would expect for it to at least function. But it doesn't. It's slow, unresponsive, features don't work and your support refuses to acknowledge any fault. Still left with buggy biometrics, broken cheque scanning, and many other issues. - Edit: the claim that app responsiveness can be caused by low storage and/or poor connection does not apply in this instance. Tested with 64GB free and on a stable 220-20mbps connection among others.
Very easy to navigate and use, BUT, contactless payment is a roll of the dice!!!! I've had it work perfect, I've also been embarrassed at not being able to pay for items, so unstable. *update, yet again this fails to pay contactless, and needs to be selected as default after every update, very poor !!!!!
VERY buggy. Can't add accounts without speaking to customer service. Chat couldn't help 😬. Error message SD001 appears a lot, especially when trying to view statements. Just a bit rubbish really! Update Apr-22 Still really buggy! Trying to link to other providers just provides countless error messages, despite having the latest version installed. Can't include mortgage account information unless I have a current account!?! Seems a bit pointless creating a back account just to have this info.
Works well but you need to not keep adding stuff to it as it is making it much less usable. It is becoming more and more difficult to find functions under all the different sub-heading menus. Equally, the more added without ease of use the more problematic it becomes for those not at ease with these types of deep apps. So you need to try out changes with a huge age range of guinea pigs.
Easy to set up and use. Much better than I thought. Would be even better if I could see who's paid money in or taken money out for direct debits etc. The transactions page has references but the notifications don't include a reference so I have to go into the app every time I want to check if I've been paid. Apart from that, it's a really good app.
Useful, but still has difficulty scanning cheques, especially if handwritten. Edit. Nov 2020. It now seems to recognise handwritten cheques. Update May 2022. Paying in cheques isn't as easy now. The trick is to take it from an angle with the cheque in front of you at 45 degrees. Trying to scan directly overhead causes a distorted image, if it scans at all. Still a work in progress. Why not just have a button to touch to take the image? Simples!
It's a good app , not easy for someone like me who is learning what the meaning of some of the financial terms and conditions means. But am happy ,and able to sort my transactions from home. I will continue to bank with Barclays because they are reliable, when my card was lost twice they were helpful without me going to the bank.
Easy and quick to use. Sometimes difficult to navigate around as they're always adding new products or services. Never had a problem with the app. Feel confident with it being a secure app. Best feature is remotely paying in cheques. I'd be completely lost without the Barclays app.
