This was by far my most used app for my droid x. Now that I have my droid 3, verizon has seem to have blocked any attempt to get a free hotspot. When app starts it throws this error: DHCP: could not bind to DHCP port Address already in use. After that, you will be routed to verizon's hotspot app, and all internet will be blocked unless phone is restarted.

Uses my 4G Samsung to connect my MacBook to the net. Have 2 other apps that do the same. All are equal in speed. USB tethering seems a bit faster, if you don't mind loading the program on your computer and paying for the app. Still looking for a wireless tether app that can transfer enough speed for my Mac to play videos smoothly. Not sure if that exists.

I was using Wireless Tether for a while but after the update my G Tablet consistently dropped the connection (it would reestablish connection in a few seconds after the wifi request was made again) and it was getting really annoying. Luckily, I read about this app and tried it. I have to say it works like a champ. I've been using it most of the day and it hasn't dropped the connection once. I highly recommend it.

This app is designed to turn your phone into a mobile data modem of sorts. Meaning, it will allow you to connect a device such as a laptop to it and use the mobile data connection as a means to surf the internet. This will not give you free internet access. Enough ranting, now the praise. This is a great app internet access when you need it and there are no wifi points available to connect.

I've installed this app twice now and both times i have had weird thing happening, first my phone randomly downloaded a APK, and this time it popped up a message asking to to link my phone which cost me money. i feel something funny is going on.

It sometimes has problems with wifi manager and then refuses to restart until I close it in settings/applications/ running/cached applications then it usually works. Also it stops working sometimes and I have "associate", open garden has neither of this things but had a different problem so this is still the best option. Thx for making this app :-)

I did not believe it could do it, now that I've seen it work, I still don't understand how it's possible to turn my phone into a wifi hotspot without third party linking like bluetooth... Warm thanks to Szym and other developers whose hard work make up for the limitations of Android 2.1.

Trying to use as a hot spot tether from Samsung AMP 2 to connect to my xb360... with no luck it keeps telling me.... Can not find WAN interface... Does anyone know of a hotspot that would work... I've tried a lot of the free hotspot like foxfi, barnacle, Android mobile hotspot etc. No luck Ps I am on Cricket unlimited plan

I rooted my samsung ultra boost mobile 50 a month. I was useing wifi tether but I couldn't get my sister evo to conect to my hotspot since she has a data limit I don't want to root her phone. Because she wouldn't know what to do. Baracle worked perfect connected the xbox ipod touch computer her cell phone and was still able to. Use my phone.

Very Awesome. Requires root access, which can be a downer, But once you have that it's incredibly easy to setup and use. Battery drain is minimal, especially with the phone off. You can easily browse for a number of hours without having to worry about your battery. Ping times are very low on the wifi network, and add less then 1ms between desktop and internet. b(^-^)

Ever since updating my Droid X to Android Version 2.3.3 rooted, Verizon has blocked any attempt to get free wifi. When Barnacle starts it throws this error: DHCP: could not bind to DHCP port Address already in use. I've researched this and contacted the developer, but he hasn't responded to anybody with a fix from what I've seen. This used to be great App, but has since fallen hard.

***GET PDANET+ INSTEAD*** I've been using barnacle since 2010 without any problems until windows 8.1 came along this year. Because its coding identifies it as an adhoc connection, I lost the ability to connect on any win8.1 system, even if it was detected by the hardware. This has been a known issue since 8.1 came out in 2013 and can be fixed by simply recoding barnicle to display as an infrastructure network, but the developers are not going to do so, as stated on numerous forums about this problem.

This app is apparently no longer being maintained. It used to be excellent, but it doesn't support most newer phones, e.g. those with 4g. Didn't work on my Galaxy Nexus, upgraded to an S4 and it still doesn't work. There are better apps with better support.

Free app but have to PAY FOR DATA PLAN - some ppl don't realise that! Great as my tendering used to be locked but now i can use 3g to stream stuff to my laptop & pc! I get speeds of ~1.5mbps (faster than my original WiFi) Keep the good work up

I have not used this app in the longest time, due to having a typical internet connection via router. But long ago, and once more when in need this app has saved my hide. A special place will always be in my heart for Barnacle.

I am reluctant to bash this app because it saved me multiple times prior to the 2.3 update, making me think that gingerbread is the reason that this app no longer functions for many droid2 users. Reading other comments tell stories of great success the way this useful app used to work

This is good it works fine with laptops wher you can change settings but I see no settings to make it work with other devices like Android based tablets the 3ds DS vita or PSP. please add some time of support for that since it seems not work I have configured it in everyway possible it will not connect. the Program its self on the phone needs to be changed since you cant do it on some devices and there is no options to do that.

used on my G1, Nexus One and my Galaxy S. Blazingly fast compared to pdanet and other tether programs. This is the real deal. Speeds are about 300-400 kbps on T-Mobile in Michigan. Been using for 2 years. ZERO issues. Using a tethering app will seriously drain your battery. Make sure you have a usb charge cable,, and keep it jacked in while using this.

It works with my desktop and laptops. However, it doesn't work with my Samsung Galaxy Player 5.0, PSP and mintpad. The strange thing is, other Android phone (Motorola) belongs to my buddy able to find the signal and connected to it. Is there anybody can help me out if you experienced this issue before, so that I can shortcut the problem solving? I know it has to do with infastructure mode vs ad-hoc. Thanks in advance.

Installed this last night, and wouldn't you know it, we had a power outage. Hooked my laptop to my phone using Barnacle, and it worked like a dream. Bought the donation widget too. Thanks for making something that just works without a bunch of crapware.

Running CM 10.1. AP shows up, but provides no Internet connectivity and crashes phone so hard I have to restart twice. Fix those major issues on my configuration and this would be a very nice app.

Sorry guys but only having WEP security is lame. That is like paper over a doorway, not much protection. You need WPA2 for the best or at least WPA. Maybe if they add that this will be a good app, until then use at your own risk.

this product doesn't work with a host of devices (including my droid bionic). Used to work with my droid but, that was runnng froyo. Hasn't been updated in nearly 9 months. If it's not going to be maintained it should be removed. hal

Able to surf web, albeit very slowly, but trying to download maybe a 50+ MB file, it will eventually time out. I get maybe a maximum of 150 Kbps (I'm on a full signal 4G connection). And why does the DHCP lease need to endlessly be renewed?! Only stuck using this because ICS ROM leaked won't run WiFi Tether or Open Garden. Rooted T-Bolt.

I had to come back to update my review since after about a month of use, this app has kind of gone a bit down hill. When I first installed, I had the luxuries of full 4G speeds, but within a week of use it fell to 2mbps download and 3mbps upload (when I'm lucky). It's painfully slow and with no known fixes. This is useful and saves me the $30/mo from Verizon, but I'm not entirely convinced it's worth it anymore. Also, it kicks you off the internet whenever you actually use the phone in most ways (i.e. sending a picture to someone, using e-mail, or talking on the phone). With all that said, it clearly states you need root access, so bitching about it is asinine.

Works excellent. Only problem I have is after closing the app I have to reboot my phone to get it to work again. Has SuperUser access. Running it on a rooted Galaxy Prevail via Boost Mobile. Please notify me if there is a method to fix.
