Battle for Donetsk

Leaders of several countries and continents are arguing. People are speaking of a new Cold War. Yet thousands of civilians in eastern Ukraine are facing a war that is anything but "cold", every day. One million people are on the run. During the many fights there have been more than 5000 casualties, yet some research speaks numbers ten times higher.

In Battle of Donetsk you are the leader who plays with the lives of these people. You determine the stakes. Can you win?

Battle for Donetsk is a war game with an anti-war message. It's a confronting "topical game", developed by the independent game studio LuGus Studios. With this game
LuGus Studios does not wish to take a political stance and doesn't idealise violence and conflicts. Instead, we hope the game will create a strong awareness of the conflict in Ukraine and that its sobering character will be food for thought.

other games has never cared for civilian deaths as if they are the expendables but this game shows that they arent expendable as you could lose cruical civilians and build a bad reputation. it also shows the reasons of death and how many died from it. This is a war game with a anti war message. I don't like wars espiecally if it were to be near home. Im not 100% paficist but i dont like wars, civil wars, unrest, etc

The game is great but it is just one level. That's the only problem it has. Add more levels and events please

This game is very different all the war games I have played are filled with violence but this game told me that voilence is not the answer in other war games you have to kill soldiers, civilians to win but in this game if you want to win you have to respect the ceasefire and if you want lose you have to win by voilence nice game and it teaches us about humanity and the importance of life and peace.

I love 5thought of a war game 2with an anti war message but its basically a never ending slug match. Great idea bad execution.

Not an actual game with any serious depth, just a message about how war is bad.

It's decent, but yet it's very frustrating. No matter what you do you can't prevent civilian casualties.

Can we add some more things as update? Like maybe distinguished tanks as T-64 and T-72 and possibly add advantage for UAF and DPR

This game makes you realize that civilians are also being killed just like in Donbas. Hopefully the fighting will come to an end soon. Down with Kiev's fascist forces, long live the people of Donetsk and Lugansk republic's.

Most games are a mean of relaxation and recreation. Real life scenario's don't always get the most attention. Glad tot see that there are still some studio's raising awareness for these humanitary conflicts.

This is your standard tug-of-war side-scrolling strategy. The art is well done, though the gameplay is a touch bland. With only four unit options, there is little strategic variance. Worth a shot, though I cannot see most players putting in more than a few rounds.

I like how you made it realistic. About like real life on goings in the world. It helps the player open there eyes and question what goes on the real world. Thank you.

long live ukraine. down with DNR fascists and putin holocaust we will see the sun of peace over ukrainian east

Great way to spread the word that war leads only to death. Now only if the Ukrainian authorities could understand this, the people of Donbass could live in peace.

Yeah game is fine, but the fact that you chose to turn a 4 month long battle into a mobile game is pretty offensive. I get the message and see that you had your hearts in the right places but if you wanted a way to get word out about the war this wasn't it.

My favorite part was trying to get my civilian casualties # higher and higher with every round. This game only gets four stars though since you don't actually get to see the civilians dying.

"Message" takes only a tiny microsecond of the game. Oh we hate violence soo much)

Fun little shoot em up game. Stop the carnage. They deserve their own friendly Republic.

TWoM it Isn't. This game is one of those "Single Line" Strategy games where two factions with bases on either side of the screen deploy troops and powers to push across the No Man's Land to the other base. While others have put spins on the genre- like Warfare 1917/44, this one plays it very straight. But it does it very well. The graphics are good, the play is good and bug free, each unit and power has its' place, the ability and it all comes together very well. The main quirk-is that the game starts in a "ceasefire" mode. I won't spoil it. Problems are that the buy buttons are not labeled, so you might not know what you're getting until you buy, there are no unit stats post game (solider deaths don't matter?) and that FIRST AID DROPS end the ceasefire. Regarding the message... I suggest a good counter is the late, great RJ Rummel. Suffice it to say, the violence and destruction caused by a despotic regime are often greater than that caused fighting. it. PS: As the descendant of Il Duce's victims, those who call the Ukrainian government Fascist do not know what Fascist means.

I win the battle, but lose the war. Though I couldn't find any precise instructions inside the app, like about the types of units and how to save more.

Zac. B. Mar 26, 2015

Make more levels and more units, let's have some motor strikes Goin on just like Russia used there.
