Battle for Wesnoth

This is an unofficial android port of the PC game Battle for Wesnoth.

Battle for Wesnoth is a turn-based fantasy strategy game, featuring many addictive campaigns, lots of units, different races, AI controlled players, multiplayer gaming and much more.

On startup the game will need to download and install data from the internet, so be sure to have a good connection and free space on your device on the first run.

* Minimal difference from PC version

With the goal of making easier to follow official game releases, this port is focused on doing minimal modification to the PC game.
This means no UI changes.
Thus, to allow precise clicking even on touchscreens, a finger-dragging mouse emulation techinque is used. On startup you'll watch a small tutorial about it.
Also, the game needs a fairly good hardware to run on. At least a 800x600 screen and 512MB RAM are required and also a good cpu is suggested (700Mhz minimum).
Trackball and hardware keyboard will help interaction, but are not needed to play.

* Splitted data files

Game data files, which will be downloaded on first startup, are split into core, music, campaign and translations files. This way, you can choose to download and install only what you are interested into.
So for example if you don't care about game music you won't need to download music files, saving 140MB of download and memory.

The core download, which is 178MB, will allow you to:
- play single scenarios vs. another player or the AI
- download extras (campaigns and more) from the official server
- connecto to a game server to play network games

This port does not include server mode, so you cannot use this software to host a network game (but you can connect to one hosted somewhere else).

It seems like a really awesome strategy game. It's a PC port and they did a great job porting it to android. Unfortunately for me I had difficulty getting used to the controls, as you use a mouse to click on everything. I'm sure there's people out there who wouldn't mind controls like that but personally for me I found it frustrating. I'm used to touch screen controls and not dragging a mouse around and clicking with it on my small android screen. Devs did a great job otherwise with the game!

The game is good and challenging. It took me a while to find out how to scroll through menus to use my add-ons in the MP battles (which I never used for multiplayer), and how to make scenarios in the map editor (mostly the battle part, not the dialogue stuff). The stories, both the in-game and player-made ones, have been amazing. Good job.

Great game, exactly as i remember on PC. The port is very good, and once you get used to the controls, or change to tap controls the game is really fun and completely playable free. Only reason for 3* instead of 5, is i have an odd blue screen over the entire game after the controls tutorial. Can still play, but everything is blue. Will give 5* after this is fixed

Free. No Intrusive Permissions required. Highly customizable play experience through mods. Turn based strategy. Controls were odd at first but after a few days they felt appropriate for a port originally for pc. Only bugs I remember encountering were from mixing mods that weren't compatable. Perfect pick up, put down, play with a friend, play solo game that features built in mod resources. Truly a labor of love for the game. Also, thanks to the individual/group responsible for the port.

It's definitely Battle of Wesnoth, and the dev has done a very good job of getting the controls to work. My four star rating is for the effort, the game itself isn't really playable on a tablet, let alone a phone. This isn't the dev's fault really, this game was designed to play on a computer with a mouse and keyboard... where the experience is superior by far. This might be passable on a large screen device.

There is no better tactical strategy game on google appstore, period. Maybe, big maybe, fft can challenge this but only because of story. Even so, this game has hundreds of stories. Wesnoth controls are incredible and can be adjusted before the game starts and game related settings are there as well. Smooth and awesome. You can zoom in, zoom out and add shortcuts on the screen for the most used buttons. This game sets an example for all stupid android games out there (99.99% of the market).

Awesome game! All the single player stuff works as it would on a computer. Connecting to Multiplayer is difficult; I'm 99% sure I am typing my password correctly but the game insists that it is the wrong password, even after I reset my password for the Wesnoth forums or retype it carefully a dozen times. Other than that, it's a great time.

Fantastic game! Great strategy, fun story with a really long campaign, and challenging. (Thank you, autosave!) The controls take some getting used to, as it's really meant for a mouse, but after a while it doesn't bother me at all. And free, by the way, just awesome!

The mobile experience of Wesnoth (which is one of the best games ever made) has some quirks that it can take time to get used to. If you have access to a desktop PC (best option), or laptop, you probably won't replace that version of wesnoth with this one (but I don't think that was the intention of this port). If on the other hand, like me, you don't, then this port is the best thing that ever happened on the PlayStore! Thank you Alessandro for this selfless work!

Clunky control craziness. Player beware: Controls are NOT made for mobile. I looked up mouse emulation mode, set screen size so fonts were larger, and did all the requisite research. Game is unplayable due to map scroll being far too aggressive even with 'slowest' mouse acceleration. My units in the tutorial river map are in middle. Scolling as little as possible causes game area to fly to one corner or another. No middle ground. This game was made for a mouse and is unplayable w/o it.

Awesome classic game! User interface is non-standard (it's a conversion from a mouse and keyboard PC game), but I don't mind. It's great to play a game that isn't just periodically pressing buttons to activate abilities after their cool down had passed.

I'm rating this on the merits of the PC to Android porting, NOT on the merits of the game itself which is not made by this developer. This is AN EXCELLENT port job. I actually find the mouse pointer control to be amazing. So much so that I wish most complicated android strategy games would use this. Even on the biggest phones your finger gets in the way of seeing fine details. This method basically turns your entire phone screen into THE BEST TOUCHPAD for PC you've ever used.

I love Wesnoth and this looks like a great port of a great game. However, the screen is eternally blue as if highlighted when I get to the actual game. I've checked the forums and can't find a solution. As this basically makes even looking at the game annoying, I can't give it a good rating.

This is equivalent to the linux version and screen is somewhat like XSERVER XSDL The game is a bit heavy for android. Let's sort it out. If your RAM < 1 GB and cheap phone and no OTG, this game is not for you. Connect a mouse, disable all animations (pref > display) decrease resolution, make a forum account and you will experience the best open source strategy game. You can also create maps and campaigns + extra functions via WML programming. A HELL OF A GAME !

One of my long time games on PC I keep coming back to every once in a while. Playing it on my small phone screen with clunkier controls than PC doesn't feel too good so I don't think I'll keep it, but I can't rate a game that good and ported as decently as possible any badly.

I am still enjoying Wesnoth on my phone. Its awesome. The only hiccup is controls. While the touch controls work fine, its a bit cumbersome. Scrolling with two fingers leads to very fast scroll which cannot be adjusted. I request dev to provide on screen icons for arrow key.

I remember playing this on a computer and loving it. The mobile version is still great, but I get halfway through the tutorial and then put it down and have to reinstall everything. Idk if this is a thing you can fix, or if I'm just being dumb, but it's kinda annoying.

The game is unplayable with Crome, I have a trackpad and even though I set emulators to have the mouse in the game stay with the mouse from the trackpad it doesn't work. Other than that the game is amazing.

A good port of a good game. Runs pretty well, and no ads is a big bonus. Fun gameplay with good strategy depth. Scroll is a bit high on the sensitivity and a zoom function would be good, but that's not much of a complaint at all. Definately recommend

Great gameplay & port, add-ons are very easy to access and install. Only issue is screen elements mighy be too small even at adjusted resolution and some polishing on the control emulation but even so, the massive amount content overshadows its flaws.

Great little play-and I do mean little! Enjoy the change to mouse menu and I think it helps. Early days but good job so far. Updated: very interesting game, completely free and a joy for a single player. Can't recommend highly enough if you like small

Actually a good port of the pc-game (actually no cuts from the original), which you wouldn't think by the impression the install-screen gave. I give it 4/5 because it lacks the ability to modify the courser-finger ratio or just remove the courser completely.

Great game on pc, and also on mobile. It's got just the right level of complexity and simplicity. Tons of content and gamemodes. The controls take a bit to get used to, but this is a pc port, and it's well worth it.

This has to be one of the best things in the Play Store. Wesnoth has been my favorite tactical strategy game ever since I first discovered it, and while the mobile control scheme definitely takes some getting used to, it actually works perfectly! Thank you very much for your work in porting this, Alessandro!

Love this game. Very fun to play and every battle is different. Cant seem to open it anymore. Tried to delete and redownload to no avail. Keeps saying download error when I go to start the game.

This game was built for a pc or computer. But it is just as fun on mobile. Just one problem, the game keeps freezing when im in it and i have to let my battery go flat to get it to keep working, please fix this issue.

A staple of my childhood, I cannot fully express my love for this masterpiece of a game. To find that it's available for mobile is amazing! This game has excellent gameplay, music and lots of community content, all completely free and without any ads. Do yourself a favour and try it out.

10/10 the single best game I have ever played on any of my 6 phones I've owned. And yes I have it on every of my phone's. When I go to the Verizon or AT&T for my GF I make it a point to download it on as many devices while I wait. Such a good storyline great graphics just the best. If you haven't tried it download.
