Beelinguapp: Learn Languages

Overpromises, pushes you to pay with a meaningless "30 min half price", and then under delivers. The concept is good, but the execution is lacking. "Reading" goes too fast to actually read the text, having both texts at once is distracting and overall not as enjoyable as I'd have hoped. The flashcards' system doesn't make any sense to me and uses unexplained rules and symbols, list "premium" words i never asked for, overall just confusing. The app is laggy, in particular the horizontal scrolling of stories. The people reading stories have non-native accent, a weird rhythm, uneven speed, some words (in French) are mispronounced. They say "we have songs" and "we support many languages" but then I realized they had like 20 songs, in 2 languages. The "free" mode is unbearable with premium CTAs everywhere, I would not consider subjecting myself to this "for free" so I paid. I regret paying. I hope the app will improve and get more polished. For now i just regret thinking "hey, 20 €/year, that's cheap compared to Duolingo" … yeah, you kinda get what you pay for. I'd be happy to update this review once the app improves. As it is now, I would not recommend it to a friend

The concept sounded great. But most of the stories are paying (or only part 1 is free). For those who are free, it seems somewhat glitchy: the sound and the highlight are not timed properly. So I am definitely not convinced to purchase anything further. 😕

Im glad the app works for others but there's other apps and extensions that do exactly what this app does for free. In fact, translating from a book yourself obviously is far better for learning, it's just less convenient. So for people who don't have a lot of time or don't like other learning materials than apps I'm sure this is great. But it's not as effective as duolingo and it's more expensive (unless you use this discount I guess which is clearly trying to get you locked in)

Love this app. First time I've found a platform where you learn a language through reading whilst listening to audio to help with listening. So many stories to choose from. The stories are also interesting so it doesn't feel like a chore. I also like that there is a test at the end of the story to assess understanding. Not so keen on the flashcards... also I am a little skeptical of the acuracy of the levels. Audio could be improved on some stories too. Overall a great app

Not very useful for Japanese. The "karaoke" highlighting of words doesn't work with Japanese, since the sentence structure is essentially backwards. It would be much better if the matching words were hilighted at the same time. The pronunciation of some Kanji are weird scratchy audio when selected individually, and you cannot highlight from the line above to the line below if a word continues to the following line. This app may be better in the future, but not yet.

Suggestion of improvement: reduce the time while selecting a specific word of the Text. Sometimes it gets annoying trying to select a word to add to our glossary/flashcard. Tks team!

Actually the idea of this app is great but it keeps crashing. I can never use it more than 5 minutes because of this. Plus a lot of content become premium, now i can't even study more than one language without premium membership. Edit: They helped a lot to solve the problem

Free version is useless. You can't do anything at all without paying, which is fine, but then just charge a fee for the app. It's very simple. If there are any stories to read without paying, it's extremely difficult to tell which ones. I don't feel like spending my time figuring that out. Instead I'll just pay for another app that's more transparent.

I love this app in every way, I had initially had a bad experience while trying to change my email address, but Anja was able to help me and I'm very grateful for that. They have an awesome app and also awesome customer service

PLEASE FIX THE FLASHCARDS! Has great potential, great concept with the side-by-side translations and the great variety of content, but need the flashcards to be SRS and for only the words I select to be on the cards. It seems to automatically place words from the content I've read into the flashcards. They are mostly not useful. SRS is essential! These would be the main reasons I may not renew my annual subscription + lack of native voices in the News articles! Will be a 5 star app once fixed!

Day one has been amazing. The news and the variety of story options is great for reading and listening comprehension. I'm about 2mth into learning Spanish but have always picked up reading fastest and wanted a way to continue progressing even while I learn to speak, grammar rules, and vocab a bit slower. Reading is of course helpful in those things as well. And I will report back in 6mths :)

App is good, but the Arabic font is awful. The vowel and accent signs are all over the place at times and makes the Arabic difficult to read. As it makes difficult the whole purpose of the app (learning Arabic), fixing this should be pretty near the top of the list... Galaxy Note 9.

Great!!!! There is only one downside. I was not able to record the sentence I wanted to read to check if i do it correctly. Perhaps i didn't get it, and you can only record a word there to check your pronunciation, but not a sentence though ☺️

This app is just what I've been looking for, a way of learning new Hindi words through short stories. I've withheld a star because of the pronunciation of the one reading the flashcards, it's almost always wrong. This is my suggestion and recommendation to anyone who wants to download the app, do it. IT'S AN AMAZING APP. The stories are short, the pace is great and the ones reading the short stories have pronunciations that are spot on. Just skip the flashcards. ALL THE BEST!

Used to be awesome!!!! Karaoke style text scrolling is amazing. But they now have so many pay walls and it's difficult to navigate to even 3 stories to try it out! After buying lifetime on faith, my score is slightly higher. Without a pay wall, it's better but you still can't highlight across lines in order to add to your glossary - which is very lame. They've got kinks to iron out. I'll be waiting. It's still fairly awesome in terms of comprehensible input. Only LIngua, LingQ, Beelingua and Speakly have a lot of transcriptswith audio. Beelingua is the cheapest app of that bunch and Lingua is a website, so it still has usefulness, it just has some room to improve. Will update review periodically.

2nd update: Uninstalled. Used to be five stars, now one. Stories are locked, even if you are a premium member. It seems you're being forced to read certain stories in a specific order to unlock the next one. Makes sense if you're using the free version, but not if you pay for premium. Having the ability to read what you want, whenever, and however you want is what made this service so great. People learn differently and are interested in different topics.

It's okay. But we need more Resources. Also, the below bugs fixed! 1. when i am long tapping to add a phrase to Glossary, it wouldn't let me copy beyond one line. let's say "se le dijo"- if "se le" is in the first line and "dijo" is in the 2nd line, I am unable to copy both and add it to the Glossary. 2. after adding words to the Glossary, there should be an option to edit and add additional meanings to a term in the Glossary.

The app has a lot of potential and is decent. I love the concept of stories and the artwork. Also, the articles cover a great range of topics. But please do whatever you must to have everything (or most content) in native audio. This day and age, we need NATIVE AUDIO. Too many apps use TTS and are thus sub-par for learning. It is literally what separates an amazing app (like speakly) from an okay app.

Very convenient interface for learning a language through reading. The developers have a variety of interesting content to read.

Tons of material and easy to use. Very reasonable cost if you purchase at the annual rate. Enjoy the simultaneous translation.

I like this app but, they make a surprise payment from your card and dont even tell you about it, if you don't cancel on time the 7 day trial. This is abusive, the app should ask of I want to keep it. The app shouldn't be taking decisions for the customer. Unsubscribing for the app is extremely difficult.

I really like the concept; so I wish I enjoyed this app, but so far I'm unimpressed. Everything takes forever to load, and there's hardly any actual content to read. Not to mention the Russian TTS voices are terrible. (Can't speak for other languages) In theory it is a service I could see being worth paying for, but the free experience seems to be a big mess. Not worth it as I see it now. I will change my review if my experience with this app changes.

Such a great app I just started using it it's really nice, However I think as a very beginner I would like to have even more easier stories if it possible I just learned Korean and I don't have yet many vocabularies to understand most of the story.

I want to learn Hebrew, unfortunately it's not available but I'll try the app later. Congratulations, i see you've made it easy for those tryna learn a new language.

Superb cool! They have texts, audios, vocab, interesting materials...I cant ask for more!!!

I like the concept of the app and I like the content it has, but I can't change my language after I misclicked. I can't find the email for help anywhere. Pls help
