Better Open With

Fixes fundamental problem: open link in alternative app. Doesn't work with everything (e.g.: Google drive), but fixes most. No ads (yay!). One problem: dark mode doesn't work on my device (v12.0, zfold2). But, developer option "force dark-mode" fixes this. Unfortunately, this workaround is an annoying setting to change. (Some apps don't invert the text color, making it hard to read.) Overall, great app.

Three stars for doing all the right things—regular updates, no unnecessary permissions, responsive developer, and just a great idea. But Opera and Chrome don't show up in the menu where I should be able to select a default browser. That's all I wanted it for and is honestly a bit silly. Even more silly is that Chrome does appear as an option in other areas of the app such as default audio playback, so I know Better Open With can *see* Chrome, it just... doesn't know it's a browser? 🤔

I would really like it if they gave the option to manually add an another app from your phone rather the ones suggested by the app. Like for browser, I want to set Spotify links to be opened via Spotify app not chrome but I can't chose Spotify as its not shown in the list. An option to manually add and chose from your list would be really great and make this app more versatile. I am sure it's not hard to implement if you can already list all the apps on my phone.

I rarely give 5 stars, but do for this - it gives you the flexibility so that you can either set an app as default or leave the choice open each time. It solves the issue of apps being set as default just because you used them once to open something. It really does make life easier on my Lollipop tablets, so much so that I'm happy to keep them for years to come. Great stuff! 🏆🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟🏆

Great solution, but there are many drawbacks. Links you click on Google Chrome open right in Chrome. This is the case with links in the Gmail application, they are only offered to open in the browser. If the author managed to find a solution, this application would be great!

Nice. It would be great to be able to add specific sites and set them to open automatically in specific browsers without a countdown. For example, I'd like to be able to set a really pesky site to always open in AdBlock Browser.

Great app, but I've had an issue where it either A) Forgets my "always open with" choice on some links like Youtube videos, making me have to select manually and do the whole "just once" thing, or B) doesn't show up at all for some website links.

Doesn't seem to work here. I set an app as default for a file type, I went in my file browser and pressed the file, I got an error no suitable programs to open the file. Although I rated 3 stars, the reason it might have not functioned correctly is that the app may not support direct file opening or the file browser is faulty. Anyway, 3 🌟 for awesome old-style jelly bean kitkat design. I want more apps in old android blue and black because the current design is too polished and newish for me.

It's a great and useful app that everyone needs to have on their device. But please add reset options. For example I mistakenly chose to always open pdf "links" with a wrong app and there wasn't an option to reverse it. So I had to uninstall the app and install again.

Option to turn off countdown and open with selected app. I have problems with my andoid 11 and this could fix those. Please add the option. Thanks but I don't beed help, everything works, only the countdown and things selection option to turn off, would be nice. So it automatically opens the thing set as favorite. No waiting time.

Suddenly no browser app is being shown in the browser page of the app. Fix the issue please. I tried uninstalling and reinstalling the app. But it didn’t work for me.

I see the problem now. It's androids "documents" or download manager that is the problem which has is own "complete action using" dialog box separate from the normal open with dialog box you usually see and this appears after touching the download notification. It's a shame Better Open With does not intercept this call otherwise or would be perfect to see Better Open With instead of the complete action using that has no useful file handling apps populating the menu. Clearly another oversight on the part of android. As it stands, I have to say, Better Open With is still redundant. Until you can integrate with androids download manager/download complete notification/documents activity launcher ...I can't see making a case to use this.

Yes. Thanks. Had another app for this, but that one doesnt work for the current android. This is a little more complicated (but also with more options, so depends on what you want, i actually kinda like having options) but works just as well. This is what android should be like, im more and more forced to use chrome, but if i want no choices ill switch to apple.. Thank you so much.

I love this app. Finally full control over how links get opened. Hide the target apps you never use, and set a default for your most used app which kicks in after n seconds (configurable). No longer an all or nothing choice. This app should be baked into the fabric of Android! Superb.

I've had this app for a few years and it's fantastic! The only problem is that taking photos from within another app (e.g. Google Keep) won't work bc this app interferes. So I've been uninstalling Better Open With when I really need to. It's inconvenient - but also inconvenient when I don't have Better Open With... 😅

I would like the app to let me choose from all installed programs, and pick the one I want to use. I would like to be able to edit the list you give me, since some programs listed are not usable for that function.

This app truly fills a gap created by many excellent cell manufactures that fill there great devices with bloat ware. This app appears seems to have made it possible to create a "default app" status for all of our favorite 3rd party apps. I look forward to working with this app. Keep up the great work👍

Great application. I have been using it for years. The developer promptly fixed problem I had. I have donated for future development (not that I would specifically miss something, but I would at least like to keep it updated for future Android versions).

It used to work very well with my older Android phone but it's not working on my new phone. The app shuts down. It was last updated long ago so I guess if anyone has older Android phone then it'll work perfectly.

With all the apps constantly updating and resetting defaults, this is a required app for staying sane on Android. Best to set it on a quick countdown and use the pause button when there are too many choices.

This should be a feature in stock android. However, some updating on the interface would be appreciated, and sometimes I have to choose better open with as the default app on the same link after already doing so.

Great little app! I've been using it for quite a while now on my Galaxy Note 8. It's proven itself to be very effective. At the tme of install I was running Oreo. I now run Pie/One Ui and it works just the same. It has a nice, simple layout, is easy to use and it just.. well, it just works. :)

Almost perfect, it only needs to offer options for FACEBOOK and MESSENGER. I don't want to open Facebook links in the Facebook app I find it more convenient they open in Messenger app like when you don't have Facebook app installed.

Doesn't work for me (Android 12, pixel 5). I used Better Open With to try to make videos play with VLC player by default, but they still open in Photos app. Better Open With is just another option to use if I select Open With, but if I have to use Open With I might as well just pick VLC and uninstall Better Open With.

Bandcamp app example. Doesn't give option to open links from within app or from a browser to the app. Was told that installing this along with the "Open Link With" would fix this but it doesn't.
