Bible in Polish

The Jakub Wujek Bible is the most important Polish translation used by the Roman Catholic Church in Poland.

This Bible was translated by the Jesuit Jakub Wujek (1540/1593), religious writer, translator and theologian born in Wagrowiec, Poland.
More than 87 % of the population adheres to Christianity in Poland. Roman Catholic Church is the major denomination in the country and has social prestige and influence.

Catholicism continues to play an important role in the lives of many Poles.

In 1584, the authorities of the Society of Jesus commissioned Jakub Wujek to translate the Bible into Polish from the Vulgate (Catholic Church’s official translation of the Bible in Latin)

Wujek’s translation of the New Testament was released in 1593 and the final version was published in 1599, after Wujek’s death.

The BJW Bible is easy and clear to read and understand and became the main Polish translation for over three centuries.
