I think this app will be great for out on the route navigation, I like the wind direction, but will never replace paper for planning. No Mileage markers, no indicator where it crosses another route and trying to work from a phone screen. Also when purchasing you should be able to select the sections you want and pay for them at one time instead of each one separately. This all wouldn't be a issue but the Under Ground Railroad is only sold electronically so planning is difficult.
I'm planning on biking a part of the Southern Tier route and can't seem to get this app to work on my phone. When I press the position button in the upper right hand corner it does not take me to my current position. Also how do you use this for navigating while riding? Do you keep the blue dot on the bike route? Why not introduce turn by turn navigation as well as allow for trip planning by breaking the route down for distances you want to travel each day? I'm planning on riding from Deridder, LA to Baton Rouge, LA and can't seem to figure out how far that is if I follow this route. How do I use this app to plan how many days it will take me based on distance and elevation data? The only thing I can figure out is to manually enter the route into Google Maps then to share that to my phone. Why can't that be automated from the app?
It's ridiculous that I have to change my phone's display options (Smallest Width under dev options) to get this to work correctly. The "layers" icon doesn't show up at some settings, including the default I was using on my Pixel 3a XL. The maps I paid for are useless without that.
While it's clunky, nonintuitive, impossible to customize, hardly definitive and outdated because of design, it's still very useable. I would not tour without this app or the paper maps. Google can only give more current conditions with little routing help.
Only for one device. Can't use Samsung phone and iPad. Have to repurchase map. Very confusing to use and no instructions. We have iPad and iPhone on same account and can't figure out how to share. Selected starting point but can't tell route to go southbound.
Nice idea. I love adventure cycling and use their maps a lot. Having them on the phone is convenient and works ok. It is a good addition to the maps but not a replacement.
Terrible. I can't plan a route sitting in my easy chair on a 14 inch screen. I shudder to think about choosing which way to turn on the road in Fish House NY during a rainstorm looking at my phone. I really don't see using this app again.
Not sure if it's device (Galaxy Tab S6) or app, but in a word: "useless." Barely responsive, not intuitive, no clear way to search and plan a route, following instructions within app does little to help.
Useless. No offline map. Says you can install but provides no explanation. I bought the aca map to go from bay area to tahoe and it pute on some really busy no shoulder hellish roads en route, sucked battery and the basemap dissappeared every time I went out of 4g. Suckage.
Lots of useful features, and pretty accurate. the main issue I have is the inability to open more than one map at a time.
Is there a way I can transfer my Purchased maps from my android tablet to an iPhone
I don't care about riding your route segment. And the map layers are not all functional. Give me a tool I can use and I might be inclined to buy routes, but till then Google maps came on the phone.
The app has been great! Would love to be able see "feedback" from other users in real time.
Excellent source for confirming you are on course and provides a quick riding summary for your next destination along with accomodation contacts.
Should mention that you can't do anything at all without purchasing an app for yor area esp before foecing consent to sharing all your data.
Super user friendly with an overview of the route before you buy it!!! Such detail!!
Confusing to manage. Have to pay almost 100 dollars just for a mobile map. Not worth it.
struggled to download maps at first as permission not allowed on my phone. so much simpler than Garmin map downloads
Installed this, reputedly, on my Samsung Chromebook Plus, but can't find it among the apps there. Am I failing to complete a step?
I like this app. I wish it did audible turn by turn navigation.
Did not agree to use. 'Frontpack' will sell your info to anybody, and is not liable for what 3rd parties (the folks they sell your info to) do with your info. I'm ashamed Adventure Cycling would have a hand in anything like this. Read the users agreement (s) and see how you will be used for using this app. I'd gladly pay for the maps if I WAS NOT ALSO SOLD AS A PRODUCT. 092419 In response to the developer's comments: I've read the users agreement and you should too.
I have used the app on many bicycle tours. Very easy to use :)
No maps... only an app when you zoom in there is nothing but fire updates
Poor color choices. Poor resolution in downloaded offline maps
So complicated. Off maps not working
It's a nice idea, but the execution is not so good. The idea is to allow the rider to download segments of purchased maps. Unfortunately, current technology has outstripped the static map format. I would suggest that Adventure cycling consider integrating their map with Google Maps. Perhaps they could work collaboratively with Google Maps and the makers of the Transit app with the goal of making a fully integrated, real time map for those who choose to travel as cyclists/strap-hangers.
