I installed this app when it was first released and it was working well until recently when I was suddenly unable to receive notifications of messages coming through. I have now had to revert back to the phone's default message app which I struggle to use. Very disappointing since I was ecstatic for Big Launcher's recent update as I have been a long time user of this program. Additionally, MMS is not included in this app which is very annoying.
Great app and when I'm considering for my grandmother and others. Might be worth adding an optional setting to have pictures shown directly with the messages rather than clicking the message and then attachments. Also might be worth having an extra option somewhere to send photos within the message
Got this for my Dad. It was decent until someone sent him a photo. The app allows for downloading an MMS attachment but it gets complicated for an elder to manage at that point. That leads to the same type of user frustration that I was trying to resolve. A strictly sms app is more outdated than the person you are trying to help.
Will give one more star if is has dark theme. it's the the app of choice for Big Launcher, but Big SMS and Big dial does not go with Big Launcher's theme color. (This was resolved once I reinstall Big SMS and enable the preference of Big SMS to inherit Big Launcher's preference). I really want to like this app... but it cannot check MMS or group messages. The workaround of using another txt app for MMS is clumsy...
Beautiful 10 Stars! It's like having a computer in my hand. I'm not a senior or visually impaired. If you think I'm crazy go watch a Star Trek episode. Everything was big! Technology was meant to be fully customizable just as this is.
I liked the original Big Launcher App b4 it got split into 3 apps & renamed.. the new version of big SMS requires you to buy a new upgrade for the full version. I had already paid for the original big Launcher app before let's split into three. The big Launcher app is a good app to use, I just wish that my upgrade too full Persian carried over into the new. Have someone email me. I'm not paying for more dollars just cuz Google forced you to split the app.
Very easy to use. Really, really wish Big Apps would offer MMS support as texting is useless without it. Would also like to see the Send Button a different color or more obvious. All in all not a bad app for what it is. Do you have recommendations for a good MMS app?
I installed this (Big SMS), and paid for, the Big Launcher, Phone and Notifications. My father is 78 and has eye problems. The Launcher looks good, the Phone is okay... the Notifications are strange, but he will figure it out. The SMS does not handle MMS. My father has a handful of grandkids (and great) .. which send MMS to him often. When receiving a MMS, Big SMS offers to download as attachment or to launch an app that can handle MMS. This of course pops up a dialog to change you SMS/MMS program, which if you do will drop Big SMS as your message program. It was so confusing that my father was DONE with the entire Big #*%!@? (everything). I put installed Textra, font to 125%.. and he's giving the rest of Big a shot. Oh... and the SOS feature sending geo/loc is nice...
I mean let people know that its only app to ADD to original app, another word, if I dont have sms app, your app will not work. Please forgive me if i not fair. Again, what I did was to download your phone app and of cource I did like it, (in the war I lost my hearing), so I delete my regular phone app, and your app stop to work after that. I will try again, let see.
Looks like everything I need for partially sighted relative BUT shows only 5 recent messages then 100's of 'Available in full version' messages. HUNDREDS OF THEM!!!
Brought the full version for my mom, but the app is not receiving all the SMS that are being sent. I see the same problem beeing reported by different users. 3 stars because I got a full refund.
I liked the launcher but I'd like the messaging to have am icon on the home screen instead of going to apps. I installed on Samsung a50 and it wokred but not as easy as I'd liked Shows DEFINITE promise though for seniors like my mom. Cuz jitterbug is a piece of junk and the plan is a RIP off 46 for 100 meg. So Big Launcher is a worl around jitterbug
This app has made it possible for my 90 year old mother to cope with a smartphone. The developer is also extremely helpful when contacted. I highly recommend buying it.
Have downloaded a lot of sms apps but not my cup of tea, not working well, confusing, BUT,,,, THIS APP THE BEST SO FAR FOR SEniors and people with poor eyesight, thank u to the developer for thinking about our old farts

This is a good app but I would have liked the blob emojis as I like them .
Latest update is totally useless now, can't read AND can't send SMS. Need a refund.
Did not work on my S9+. Made default SMS app, gave all permissions but only showed black screen
Needs mms. Just SMS is poor. Can't share photos from gallery with this app.
Big SMS is not compatible with my phone network can't receive photos or group texts
Good stuff simple and easy to use.
May some time miss handled but solution for solvation some time difficult.

terrible handling of messages containing pictures. accessing the pics requires far too much clicking through menu items for an old person to keep track of. and yes, i know sms isn't mms, but pics are so much a part of messaging now that the app is worthless without better handling of them. also, the entire "big" app suite suffers from having to use its "big" clunky interface to configure it. see, if one could configure this particular kind of app, one wouldn't *need* it in the first place.
