Edit: removing the app and installing it again seems to have helped a bit. Now it only closes sometimes when it should automatically detect that I'm cycling. I haven't tried navigation yet, though. I loved the app, but lately it just closes after being unresponsive and it's become impossible to use the navigation since the app never actually manages to calculate and show a route before becoming unresponsive again.
Sometimes it closes by itself and i have to write the destination again. When i start the route, it doesn't allow me to check the route further, just the next 10 meter. I would like to able to check the route, to memorize the turns and dont stop every corner to check the map. Good It shows good routes. Bike routes and small streets.
After the overhaul, benefits will remain to be seen. Quite suspicious: while there's a lot of talk about premium membership (and existing members have automatically been "upgraded") no information can be found what it will actually cost. I also had multiple maps, some of which I got by biking a lot - those efforts are just gone, that adds to a negative feeling. This used to be my rec. for everyone, seeing these developments may very well change that. Sad to see a wonderful service go downhill...
This is a terrific app for cycling around Sydney. it takes factors like bike lanes, trails, one-way roads and narrow park paths into consideration when calculating a route. Unfortunately, it also forgets the route midway through navigation sometimes, which can render the app useless when you have to keep resetting navigation every 5 minutes. I hope this issue gets fixed soon, apart from that it's a great app!
Developer responded quickly when I complained about the lack of a free trial, but it seems I hadn't looked closely enough! If you ride a lot you can get the maps free - I guess because you contribute more data. Excellent layout and interface and magazine articles are excellent.
After the overhaul, my purchase of all maps worldwide was changed to a one year premium membership, whereby I will lose the right to download any map after the membership has expired. Contacting the service team only led to the statement that they think one year premium membership would be a reasonable exchange for my purchase. Unfortunately this makes the once great service almost useless for me and it is sad to experience such a bad customer service.
After using bc a lot as a bike messenger in graz, i really liked the app (the older version), by changing the settings it was possible to get really nice fast routes to the destination. Now, many things changed, the routing is in my opinion in graz not good any more( maybe they need more data again, but often quite detours were suggested to me, although bicycle paths are available), add. i miss the settings for the fastest way/roadtype ( they are there now, but have t.b. chosen every time...)
The Vienna Citybike App offered the option of planing routes either with Google Maps or Bike Citizens. The latter seemed the better option as bike paths are more reliably mapped, though a city map did cost €5. Regrettably, this app does not contain pick-up and drop-off points for Citybikes, so the user has to look these up either in Google Maps or in the Citybike App, then switch here, and enter the addresses. PS: many thanks for the heads-up on the bike-sharing option. Perfect! Rating edited.
It was a wonderful application until they changed business model. Now if you want voice navigation or the full offline map of your city you have to pay for a yearly premium subscription (extremely expensive). The application became useless, I suggest you to avoid it and try something else.
The app has a lot of trouble finding the addresses i'm looking for. It doesn't seem to be able to understand that I want a route to a specific house number or it just gives me some random house on the street or doesn't understand what suburb I'm talking about. I like the design and interface but without being able to search for the place i want to cycle to, I'm gonna need a refund.
This app made me cycle in my city! I live quite outside the city center and the way that Google maps suggests me is just frustrating. But Bike Citizens found me a very convening way to get to the city center. Now I'm cycling almost everyday. It's amazing. I also go to place where I've never been before without worrying because the app finds you a fast but secure way.
Using it for 7 years, 12000km.Only bike nav app for city, nice heatmaps/stats, better routes than Google. But still a startup. Love&hate. Interface always a bit buggy, closes sometimes, navi often behind or false instructions, forgets history of adresses. Developers should have fixed core UX and functions by now. Still cannot force basic cycling needs like prefer bike paths/routes, avoid hills/high traffic, sometimes does or not... Plus sells my data, but I cannot download it. Wheelchair logo?!
This is a basic bicycle GPS/ride tracker, and it's really all I need. I don't race or ride my bike for sport. I like the non-competitive nature of this app while also providing some incentives to ride my bike more. I highly recommend this app as a commuter-focused alternative to Strava.
It is too slow even for 20kmph riders. It misses cross sections by more than 50 meters. The displayed way is not enough to see where to go next, it constantly looses the zoom settings. The app is OK for planning a ride and not for riding one. Enough, but lacks of UX.
Very good and reliable app. It covers most of quiet ways and bike lanes. Allows you to explore city. Also AI is better than GMaps. Timing of it is way better, so it's far less likely to miss the turn. I do recommend it. Sometimes, the route dissappeared. Sometimes the map doesn't align with current road. The arrow is in a line of buildings. It's very rare, but happened few times that map guides me through dangerous roads that are not meant for bicycles. Its in regards of London.
