Most foreigners in Rio will have trouble creating an account with a current app version. The trick to get around this is to download an older version of the app, 8.0 or below, and that will allow you to enter your nationality. However, I believe you may still need a CPF number. I recommend starting that process before you arrive as it can take a few days or more to receive one.
I want to rent a bike in Sao Paulo but I can't because I don't have a Brazilian cpf number. They say you can rent it with the station directly, but either the station doesn't have a functioning screen, or there is no screen at all, so it's impossible to rent a bike or to know where to go to find a station with a functioning screen.
The concept is good, half of the bikes have details. The customer service does not clarify doubts or provide help and the App is useless. However, it presents a solution for large cities and the cost is not very high.
Good: The app and unlocking the bikes is really neat and with free trial and monthly plans it is neat to use. Bad: Cancelling the subscription does not happen in the app and all is in Spanish. Of course I translated, but they keep charging me still after I have left. Really pissed off about it. Update: after a few emails the support made some effort put in the transactions were reversed and got my 2 months payments back. Thank you for the extra effort!
App worked only once, and then always buggy, don't detect that bicycle was returned.
I installed the app but it would not allow me to set up an account. It said it could not create an account for my username/email. I tried a different email bit it still didn't work. Other users reviews also seemed to have proble.s with the app. Pricing should be available before you go through the trouble of creating an account. I guess if they keep it a secret until you commit lots of time, there is proba ly a reason for that.
Overall great service. Poor support for international credit cards but that's rather common in Brazil.
For some reason you can no longer use this app or any of their bikes unless you have a Brazilian phone number and state ID... why?
Only works for people from Brazil, Argentina or Chile. The app requests an official ID and a tel# from these countries. Other countries: go away!
This app is terrible..the concept is great and I use the bikes often. However many times I end up standing by bikes unable to get any. Very often it says no bikes available at a station when they are right there in front of me. Often it simply logs me out for no reason. Other times it logs me out and says email and password incorrect when they are correct. Other times I can log in to the bikerio section but despite having a subscription active it wont let me re-log into payment info (why would I need to with an active subscription) or says my details are incorrect so again I cannot get a bike. Its completely unreliable and is honestly.one of the worst apps I have ever used.
The way how this service works it does not let you to use bicycles if you are foreign. I was not able to register.
Sometimes works and sometimes don't. Mostly the app have problems all the time when you have to Lock or unlock the bike. 2 out of 5. Maybe because it's almost free the service is really bad.
Terrible experience. Several times the ride started in the app but the bike continues blocked. I have to use bus today and not to have a bike experience because that. It is not trustful if you want a daily use to go to work.
The app is awesome to subscribe and find a bike around the city. It sent me allerts and is easy to make your enrollment. The issue is only that you can't use another bike until 15 minutes later on delivery the first bike. Another matter is that sometimes is difficult to find a bike at the stations, and according to the hour, is difficult to find a bike certain times. Therefore, I really recommend the bikes and the app. It's cheap and easy to make a wholesome ride by the city. 😊
Don't even try this app. Tried for more than 2 weeks to register. It is still not possible to register and remains a terribly bad app. Developers have the same excuse all the time but they don't solve the problem. ID tramite is a required propertie......... Tried to contact them via the help chat but they can do this only in Portuguese, not in English or Spanish. Their app is in English.... The best rating for this app would be 0 stars, absolutely useless.
Terrible. Didn't work at all. Very disappointing. Tried repeatedly (from two separate accounts) to unlock the bike and kept being told "couldn't get code". Hugely frustrating and a real shame.
Can't use it at all. Even after typing in a local postal code, a local address and all the other information it was looking for, it still just kept telling me there was an issue. Very Frustrating App to try to use.
When you try to pay with an international card, it errors with the message "Required field 'billingAddress.stateOrProvince' is not provided." But there is no form field for state or province in the billing address form. The support chat is only provided in Portuguese (not Spanish or English) and the app does not let you copy the text, so you can't use Google Translate. I hope Santiago finds another bikeshare provider.
if you're in Rio, use the Lime scooter service instead. i tried to use the app but just ran into payment / card problems. a local suggested i pay online using the website. This worked: I registered and paid online. Then installed app again and logged in but it didn't pick up that i had already paid. Called the help line & selected 1 for English but it put me on hold for 14 minutes and then gave me somone who couldnt speak English. They tried to find someone but i ran out of airtime eventually.
New App doesn't accept my credit card anymore. The old app did. Also, if I want to fix my credit card or home address information I have to start over. This problem has continued for over a month anf has made travelling around Rio very difficult since now I cant use bikes anymore until this is fixed.
Unreal, the best invention for Brazil. Love it.
Won't accept foreign credit card. I contacted the help desk and they just said I should reload the app and try again. Still the same denying of my card. Obviously, others are having the same problem. My credit card works everywhere else in Brazil. Unfortunately, not on Bike Itau.
Awful app, only useful to check the map. First of all i use ths bikes in Chile and the app is in portuguese so i dont understand most of what it says. Many times when i tried to activate a bike it said "Couldn´t fetch the code". TL;DR: Useless
Oh god, fire the whole team that accepted this new design format. It's a disgrace. You can't buy a new plan, you can't add the card if you buy it... You depend on the e-mail and they take days to answer. It's a disgrace. The old app was efficient.
Update of my case - I was clear when I said that when I returned the bike it did not lock. I tried to lock the bike (I mentioned that in the previous case) and you make it seem that I was the one responsible for the malfunction of your equipment and app????? UNBELIEVABLE! Again, I do not recommend using this app. I used only once and was overcharged due to a malfunction of their equipment.
Can't create an account unless your from Brazil, Argentina, or Chile
you could use it once and that's it. they should change the profile details. they require so many things for nothing, plus you can't use the detail from other country's properly is to comprehensive so many details what actually in others country they don't have it.
Very buggy app. It could be a lot better without much work... You should send an email informing the actions unlocking and locking the bike at stations.
Bikes themselves are ok and the price is low. However: - The overview of number of available bikes at a station is almost always off - Not always registering that you have returned the bike - Half of the app is in English and half in Portuguese - Crashed when I tried to cancel the subscription - Not able to delete my credit card details from the app
