Bird Data - Costa Rica

Bird Data - Costa Rica is a field guide for the birds of Costa Rica. It has taxonomic, range, and other information for over 800 species of birds found in Costa Rica, a country with more birds than the United States and Canada combined. Included are Costa Rica-centered range maps for all species. Directly downloadable into the application about 900 photos of over 750 of the most common species, and over 1000 bird songs and bird calls. All media can now be downloaded in bulk.

Also included is a map feature that ties into the eBird Hot Spot and sighting database. See where your target species have been seen recently, or explore sightings at nearby locations.

The latest release has a sound recorder for recording bird calls and field notes.

The application is free, but a donation is appreciated.

This is not an identification guide, but it is a taxonomically arranged library of individual photographs of birds. It has some fine photographs, so if you have already identified the bird or just want to browse, slowly, through the images and use the maps to view indicative distribution it would be ok. It has data grouped by family, so is usable when you are familiar with the taxonomy. There is IUCN conservation status, but nothing on habitat. Consider it as an extra to an actual field guide.
