Birth of the Empires

Birth of the Empires (also known as BotE) is a turn-based 4X strategy game set in space in the style of classics such as Microprose's Master of Orion 2 or ST: Birth of the Federation. By choosing one of six major races aim is to gain control and supremacy over a part of the galaxy, either by diplomatic or military means. Further victory conditions are available at game start.
Earth, 2121: Spaceflight coming nearer and the third world war was long in the past, the future looks bright again for mankind. The whole universe with all its fascinating worlds, lifeforms, species and anomalies lies ahead of each brave man and woman aboard their starships eager to find new life, a new home and contact to whatever civilization there may be outside Earth system, to explore the unexplored, to encounter the unencountered.

Take command of one race during the beginning stages of their empire, but beware, there is more than one way leading to victory and each time, mastering it will be different. It will likely change and you are challenged to keep the balance within the galaxy quadrant or seize galactic power for your race and thereby establish your own "balance" in the galaxy!

WARNING: For best experience at least a 6" screen is recommended, else fonts and buttons might be too small.WARNING #2: There is a new Option called "Enable Preload". If you had no issues before version 0.6.19 then you can safely enable it to make the UI snappier. If you had issues then DON'T enable it.If you have enabled it by accident and your game doesn't starts please go into the device's Settings-Application Manager-Birth of the Empires and tap "Clear Data" and "Clear Cache". This will unfortunately also delete your savegames.

There is still a lot that needs to be done to make this game good enough to truly recommend. Additionally, while the game had some tweaks done to make it work with touch screens, it hasn't been fully optimized for it (trying to push slider buttons to move up by 1 or down by 1 is difficult due to small hit boxes on the slider button); this ignoring small smartphone screens where it is extremely difficult to read small text. What gameplay there is here though is good and definitely shows promise.

The fact that this game is completely free without even any micro transactions or annoying ads is amazing! It has a bit of a learning curve due to the in depth game play and weak tutorials but I picked it up faster than expected. The Intel system is tricky and can easily cost you the game if you don't play right, but it certainly is not "broken" as some reviews suggest. After I lost a few games I figured it out. Just get around 10 Intel buildings per system as early as possible. I'm addicted!

I like this game because it plays out a lot like MoOIII which, at the time, was seen as an over-complicated sequel to a great turn-based strategy game(and loved the ship customization). I didn't mind the micro vs. macro management style of MoOIII and appreciated the story within the story, as does this incarnation maintain; the game within the game.

First off THANK YOU for porting the game to android and making it usable for touch screen. The game is 100% free and the programmers are making zero off the game so no one should be complaining! I play on a Samsung tablet running oreo and the only issue I've had is when saving it will stop my current song from playing or if I save twice in a round it exits. Other than that it runs great! Now for those wanting a tutorial. Search Google for the pc game guides. There are two in english.

It has a lot of potential. It does. But it needs a tutorial. Not those hints you give, but a real tutorial. The intelligence system either needs an overhaul or a tutorial of itself. Otherwise it is a wonderful game and I wish the devs were still fixing it but oh well. I still recommend giving the game a try

Pretty fun, but the espionage system makes the game completely unplayable, either the method to espionage and sabotage is broken, or made so confusingly that it's nigh impossible to use, not to mention that the ai are perfectly capable of using and screwing you with it. I know this game is old as hell and no longer updates but you could at the very least turn off the espionage

At first it was hard but i got the hang of it, then i'd like to say i mastered the game,,great game right here i recommend it to anyone who likes strategy games its really challenging but if you play it right you can master it....and for those saying the intel part of the game is hard there are not playing in a balanced way, you just need to make sure that when you research Intel buildings(Databanks) almost every system has about 4-6 of those Databanks,,,,this tip im just giving it to beginners

Great game. Right up until someone's intel sabotages multiple fleets, buildings, and alliances in a single turn so you're left trying to do damage control, only to have a similarly devastating sabotage the very next turn, on and on. Basically, espionage in this game is stupidly busted. If only we could turn it off or it received a major nerf

This game is very fun, anyone that enjoys 4x games will probably like this game if they lower their standards a bit, the tutorial is very rough, it's just text and it's boring, but I never used it, just use common sense. I like it so far, haven't played much but it seems quite fun this far. Didn't need tutorial at all just 4x common sense and some guessing. But yeah very fun for me so far.

With this level of graphics and gameplay, this game might have been a top contender about 30 years ago. Today there are many games that give the same gaming challenge with much better graphic elements. Still it is an interesting challenge for retro gamers.

This is a really good game but the system manager needs to be improved..you'll get to the point where you have 15, 20 systems under your control but only about 4 or 5 of those systems are worth directly controlling..the rest are just recourse hubs..to much micromanagementšŸ˜„..the later game gets really BORING..you want to be able to focus on your biggest systems and let the smaller systems run themselves..so you can focus on the bigger picture..give system managers the ability to build buildings

Nice game. My first 500 turns are mostly peaceful. But the time I got into 501- 600, the Omega-Alliance got crazy, won some few battles but eventually, lost three of my starbases and all of my ships. Even my dreadnought. Capital Ships should be at least immune to being stolen, being it a "capital" ship, it should have the most loyal sailors and a lot of security. I would be less mad about it if I lost it to mutiny. This was on 'easy' mode. But this is why I love 4X games. Still, it was on "easy"

I said it was really good before but I'm starting to get annoyed with this game. I would give it 5 stars but there is something I cannot bare. The intelligence system is broken I do not understand it and it really makes the game unplayable. Could you fix the intelligence system or atleast make a tutorial on how it works and how to do it that's all I have to say. I await your reply.

The game was good, but the espionage system is absolutely broken. As soon as i discovered another empire, i get sabotaged into defeat. One game i was at tech 8 and almost 300k credits. I lost all of it to sabotage in less than 40 turns

Best 4x game you can download on mobile none are like this and no others come close to beating it at the #1 spot its based on the old Star Trek birth of the federation game for pc. So if you liked that then you will definely like this. But there's no tutorial so it will take you a few tries and just exploring to really get into this game its very complex there's alot of stuff i find very cool and its neat. Truly one of a kind.

The game is a port of a really old PC game and it shows. The game doesn't make sense and there is no tutorial. Looks deep and complex but the learning curve with this intuitive interface is going to be a challenge.

There are some things minorly annoying to use on small screens. However this is one of the best 4x games on Android market and it's free. No ads. Nothing. It can be huge and expansive. Just a good ol 4x without the bull. Love this dev. People like you actually deserve money for these games. Donating!

I love this game, though could you make a better instructions on intel because everytime I make contact with another empire I end up getting sabotaged again and again. I can't figure out how to use this feature. Its so difficult to stop the sabotages that I eventually resort to conquering the Empire I think was responsible, no matter what race I control. If there's any effect on my sabotage missions, can you please give us some evidence that it really is working? EDIT: I finally figured it out.

Usually all my run throughs end up in a tight predicament, surrounded by many enemies, and or at the brink of extinction and one time found a enemy that had a strong space navy but overall tedious, mentally abusing, stress machine but....but great game overall despite my anger and sadness

The fonts and tutorial too hard to read even zooming on tablet. Would be impossible on phone. Controls not very intuitive.
