Default settings drain phone battery like crazy (1% per minute). Weather forecast only shows current wind speed. Battery indicator symbol for the Bivy battery level not readable (ACR: make it larger!). Advices: In Bivy App select "Settings" and set GPS accuracy to Low (this does not affect Bivy location accuracy). Do not use App for tracking, close App after send/receive messages or weather forecast. In Android App info select: "Battery usage", "Restricted".

I have been using mine for some time now. This really helps put my family's mind at ease when I'm out in the woods. I enjoy the simplicity of the unit including the app. Have been having issues with delay in the app when hitting the send, causing me to use multiple credits.

Pretty straightforward and simple app. I use it with my bivy stick for messaging and also to find new adventures near me to explore. The app makes 2-way satellite messaging with the bivy stick easy so I can stay in touch with my family when I'm out exploring.

Device is good but the app battery drain is atrocious. The activity tracking is almost useless as it keeps freezing when it cannot find cellular service which kind of defeats the purpose for an off grid device.

Works decently with my Bivystick. Could use some improvements. Wish that it displayed more clearly the battery status of my Bivystick (current charge percentage, whether it is being charged when plugged in, etc.). I also wish it would display more clearly the satellite connection status. It's often difficult to tell whether or not it has a good signal. Lastly, the messaging section feels pretty clunky. I often have to back out of a conversation to actually see that I've gotten a response.

I love bivy and the app does have a lot of useful info about trails/adventures displayed in a easy format. I like the recording features that show your distance and speed and it is a easy format to read. Over all it has worked for me and I look forward to more data being included in the future. Their customer service is exceptional too.

The tracking is buggy. Out of six tracks that I have attempted, only three have succeeded. The app has crashed a number of times which interrupted the track. Part of the problem is the continual notifications that the Internet is not available. Duh! Where did they think we were going to use the app? Downtown?

My first trip using this to record went badly. My phone rebooted at one point but everything seemed fine. when i opened the app it asked me if i wanted to resume recording. But after I was done and had saved it I clicked "upload" on it and the app crashed. After I reopened it my entire hike was completely gone. Very disappointing, I cant recommend it in this state.

The app crashes on startup so I am unable to use it at all and don't know what to do. It was working ok a few months ago although I remember the app could have used a vastly improved UI/UX and some cleanup. I understand the company is pretty small but I would strongly suggest investing heavily in better app/software devs if they want to continue to compete with Garmin. I would take waaay fewer features that worked simply and cleanly over more features that break. Less is always more with apps.

The Bivy Stick is a genius device which avoids the oftentimes clunky interface of other satellite communicators by moving all of this functionality to your phone via the Bivy app. The Bivy app, however, is not quite as genius. Here are a few issues I ran into when using this on a 7-day backpacking trip with Bivy Stick Orange: 1) Incoming messages don't update reliably unless there's an outgoing request (message, weather). The "updated now/0 minutes ago" indicator is garbage -- I would still get a message from hours prior the minute an outgoing message sent. Luckily I paid for unlimited credits, so I'd just refresh the weather every so often to check messages. 2) Outgoing messages don't send reliably (most notably one asking my partner to pick me up from a trailhead -- two hours later without a response/my partner ever appearing I finally realized that the message must never have gone through -- and, indeed, it didn't, even though the app indicated that the message had been sent). This seems to be most prevalent if the message includes GPS coordinates. I've got Bivy Stick Blue on preorder and hopefully the check-in button works more reliably than the app's messaging -- otherwise perhaps the underlying issue is that the device itself is unreliable. 3) Tracking on the app drains phone battery quite dramatically. I think I went through 80% of my battery in 4 hours with tracking enabled. 4) Switching to another app while tracking is running crashes the Bivy app, and consequently crashes tracking. Do you really expect me to have the app open and in the foreground continuously? 5) Leaving the app open drains phone battery quite dramatically, even if not tracking and if running in the background. I had to force quit the app when I wasn't actively sending/expecting a message to get a day's use out of my phone. 6) Downloading offline maps is a PITA. Just let me select a huge area and download the whole thing, don't force me to use the clunky area selector interface to download 100 MB chunks -- I have 100 GB free on my device, after all. All in all, I'm glad I had this device + app when I was in the backcountry, but god damn, it'd be so much more worth the money if the app was actually engineered and tested by software developers worth their salt. (Edit: apologies for the wall of text; Google apparently doesn't like my whitespace formatting and keeps removing it.)

Constant random crashing. ... the app is horrible, it has crashed multiple times when I've needed it and that's on multiple kinds of devices. Not a reliable product when the only way you can get it to work again is by reinstalling the app only to have it mess up and render the stick unusable when u need it. Seriously guys if you can't make a reliable product then get out of the market before u get someone killed who trusted your product.

Solid messenger, poor phone battery life. Having the Bivy connected to my phone drained battery significantly faster than Garmin inReach. Essential functions of the device are solid but the app is not the most usable and is could have a more appealing design. I think this has immense potential and I'm definitely keeping it. I do hope battery usage improves though.

App keeps crashing repeatedly. Sometimes everything will be working just fine, you reset the Bivy when it stops responding and then the app keeps crashing. If you clear the cache then you need an internet connection to sync the bivy to your account. Great when it works but you can't depend on it for daily use. Website has many broken links and tech issues too for months.

Used with my bivy stick I am able to send messages so 1 star. As a stand alone hike route and tracking app on Android, this sucks. It looks good and seemed like it should be cool but it is not. Since it was my first time using the bivy app I ran bivy and Alltrails at the same time. I have never had a problem with Alltrails. I didn't look much as I knew most of the route and the rest was well marked. When I was done I found the Bivy app had crashed twice and taken Alltrails with it. Do not trust.

I love my Bivy. I recently moved back to Utah and able to access all kinds of ideas for my outdoor adventures. The customer service is impecable. The improvements to the app have been a positive with the ease of use. I love the app for the tracking and SOS features. Bivy is my primary off- grid navigational tool.

App keeps turning off. Not great if someone is expecting updates. It's only a week old and I'm on a new android phone. This app and the stick need to be about reliability. Come-on Bivy stick something bad might happen because your app stops working and there's no way to reload it in the back country. Get it together

Well thought put, well written and super helpful for finding adventures, trailheads and other hard to find spots. Keeping record of my adventures has been great for fitness goal purposes, record keeping, safety and journal keeping. Also, having this app can give great peace of mind which allows you to just enjoy the beauty that you came to see.

I'm brand new to Bivy, but I'd like to recommend some features be added to the app: When receiving a loation message via Bivy from another Bivy user, the location url cannot be selected by tapping on the url, nor long-pressing on the URL. One cannot select the text to copy it either. It would be really good if there was an option within the message to tap a map icon and have the map within the Bivy app show the other users location. What if two or.more Bivy users are trying to rendezvous?

Unfortunately this is yet another example of a great piece of hardware that is worthless because of terrible apps. Their website is filled with worthless marketing info and the app is unusable. After 15 min on their site logged into my account I couldn't find where to subscribe, all they show you is trails to hike. This app should show if Bivy has satellite/GPS signal, allow me to manage my subscription, send & receive msgs and that's it. But those crucial features are missing!

I've only had this for a month. After an update on Android, the app closes out when trying to activate my bivystick. Super annoying to deal with, I switched to an iPhone and seems to work...for now.

Bob. W. Aug 15, 2021

Doubt this update is worth it So far I've been very unimpressed with the unit. On a recent trip, when I sent a check in, it showed me at home while I was 4 hours away. . Other times the location keeps changing while I'm stationary. Location map, sent with check in, doesn't retain last location. Weather does not give hourly wind and, while on the same trip, showed zero percent chance of rain while it was raining? This is the most expensive unit on the market? Save your money. Buy the Zoleo

Dav. S. May 3, 2021

This is a great app for finding more things to do outdoors. The Bivy stick also helps put my mind at ease and allows me to keep up communication when I'm outside of cell coverage.

Dav. R. R. Apr 19, 2019

I had problems getting messaging to work. The staff at Bivy Stick did an excellent job fixing it, which required doing 2 revisions to the application. Outstanding support!

W. P. May 15, 2021

Wasted $350 and another $50 on credits. As soon as I was out of the cellular range it would not connect the app crashed consistently and is not working whatsoever. Super disappointing and will be returning for a refund

Jas. W. Jun 1, 2020

Constantly crashes. If you are not in data service sometimes it won't load but the whole point is using this outside of data service. I wish it worked.

Moh. M. Aug 19, 2021

I don't get the hate. Works flawlessly connecting with the bivy Stick, sending messages, etc. The Adventures section is also a pleasant addition!

Pit. G. Mar 25, 2019

Like all the options and the fact that it is just not trails. I like see all the different adventure types near me.

Mic. C. Jun 24, 2019

Does not consistently connect to Bivystick. Unreliable for emergency communications due to inability to establish and maintain a stable connection.

Gav. M. Dec 6, 2020

Crashes often. Am told the iphone app is better. Not easy to use for its main purpose. Will most likely sell and get a garmin.

Str. G. Jun 11, 2019

This app does not work very well. The app will only display what has been downloaded and that list is very small.
