Black Me - Screen Off for YouTube

Exactly what I was looking for! I like to fall asleep listening to a video at night but the light keeps me up. This doesn't only work with YouTube but with anything. I've used it with Amazon Prime Video and Netflix so far with zero trouble. With this app the video keeps playing but the screen is completely dark. To keep from accidentally turning the screen on you can change it to turn on after a double tap instead of a single tap in the settings.

I usually don't bother writing reviews for simple apps like these, but after seeing the circus show of the other comments I had to. This app works perfectly fine, it's accomplishing a very simple task, so it's hard to imagine it not working. It seems most of these negative reviews are by people who don't understand what this app is supposed to do despite it being in the very title of the app. It turns your screen black. If you have an oled screen, this is effectively off. If you do not have an oled screen then obviously it won't turn off. If you're not in a full screen app, then yes, you'll still see your notification bar, that's how android works. No, it will not ACTUALLY turn your screen off, because that will stop whatever application you have open. if you want to actually turn your screen off, there's a button on your phone that will accomplish that task. It does not actually turn the screen off, at least not on my Galaxy S7; the top-most bar is still on with all the alerts and flags like battery, data, and messages. 90 percent of the screen is black and is inaccessible, which leads me to believe it's just an app-blanket that essentially has no controls on it until the gesture is active. If I don't intentionally use my fingers to tap the top bar of the phone, this app does technically allow me to just drop the phone in my pocket, but it definitely does not turn the screen off and thus the battery still gets eaten. I'd give it 3 starts for the utilitarian value if it wasn't falsely advertised as turning the screen off.

This app is perfect! The floating button option is pretty nice because you can move it anywhere. I personally like using the notification option because it doesn't add any extra stuff to my screen. The screen goes black but leaves the clock and notification bar visible which is nice because you can still tell the time or see notifications if needed. 👍 Thank you for the beautiful app, prego!

Does what it is supposed to do, turns the screen black and prevents accidental screen touches. It's working on a Moto G7 with a LED screen. What doesn't work is the automatic service. It works at first, but crashes after several seconds. Hitting the recent apps key crashes it immediately. Manually, it works fine. Any suggestions? I really wish I could use the automatic feature. It deserves ten stars if the automatic part worked. Thanks!

Simple approach to solve a problem. Perfect for going to sleep while listening to a youtube audiobook or music This app does not shut the screen down. It simply colors it black, which acheives the same results, without interfering with youtube app running on the forefront. I have used another app called youtube minimizer, but it is buggy and stops working half the time. This app is perfect for me.

Does a great job, saving power by turning off the screen without sleeping the phone. Allows games to continue running quietly, YouTube to actually play, and so forth without killing the screen or battery. Mine randomly forgets to show me the floating button to turn the screen off, and I have to restart that feature. That's it for complaints.

Does exactly what it should in exactly the way I wanted it. Works on Android Pie too so. Just start the service and tap the floating but still descrete icon when you get to where you want to be to make your screen go off (oled so black pixels are off), then touch anywhere when you are ready to turn it back on again. Simple and easy without any problems that I have encountered. Honestly the devs did a great job. The app is thoughtfully designed and well executed.

Needs a way to lock/immobilize the floating button for a few seconds. Maybe long press on it to move it? Too easy to drag by mistake on bigger screens. I don't know why there's a lot of negative comment but this apps work perfectly with my phone. The volume work but it would not show the volume bar when you turn on the black screen. It deserves more what it already got. It not only work with youtube apps. It works perfectly outside of youtube. You just need to click the "Black Me Button" and it would black your screen. To un-black your screen just single tap your screen ( According to your setting )

The only reason I give this app two stars instead of one is due the fact that it technically does do what it advertises, and was very simple to active. The cause of the low rating, however, is due to how difficult it was for me to turn it off. It also messed with my volume pop up, where it would be extremely delayed when I adjusted the volume, or just not show up at all until I uninstalled the app. Maybe with some patches this app would be good, but as it is now, I would not recommend using it.

Fix it! Use to be good, now messes up my phone! My phone will randomly start clicking apps! This was my go to app for darkening my screen. It still manages to do that as it should, allowing me to play my videos with the screen blacked. However, when I install it, my phone will start randomly spazzing and clicking on apps by itself! I gave my phone a factory reset and it worked untill I installed this app, now it spazzes out again ! No need to uninstall, the factory reset will clear that!

I would love to give this 5 stars. However, I can't. No matter what "unlock" setting I put it on it will open itself by just being in my pocket. I don't know whether it is just opening by itself or whether my leg is pressing on the screen (which seems unlikely as I don't suddenly get another channel selected or any such thing). It needs improvement, maybe a triple tap and S pattern swipe to open. That way I can be sure the app is just opening itself.

Easy to set up. Does what it says-- sorta. It doesn't allow you to turn off your screen, it just makes your screen black- by allowing a black image to float over apps. But who knows at this is actually saving your battery some juice.. Which is one reason I think people want to shut off their phones.

ok after reading someone review, think i got the hang of it. great for listening to audiobook from youtube. not sure does it save on battery thou. ok the unlock mode is the black screen, select which way you want to get put of the blackness. one tap or two swipe or long press(ok the long press little tricky and scary).

I go to sleep listening to tv shows or videos every night, but don't want to see the screen or video. My pixel 3 locks and turns off these shows, which is annoying. This app took me hours to find. It works for more than just YouTube too!

I used to love this app! But now I can close it to black screen, go on with by business & then after 10 minutes or so, the screen will automatically pop back on out of black screen by itself making it easy to screw up whatever it is that I'm listening to.

I'm not much on giving my input on things, but this app is awesome to use. Only one problem is music won't continuously play on, it plays about 5 video songs then shuts the music off until you push continue to play. Needs a little upgrade on that part.

Simply darkens the screen while the device is still on. I use it to play YouTube audio at night. Trigger fron the noification dropdown. Turn back to normal by tapping the screen. Or choose other options. Unlike those who have displayed their ignorance in certain reviews here, if you try this, just don't expect anything else.

This app works well, much better than Black Screen. I like the floating button. Makes it easy to switch the screen back on when you need too. It could use a timer though. So the screen automatically goes black after a while.

It works? The app just creates a black image over YouTube to give the impression that your screen is off. Does it help with battery? Maybe but your pixels aren't off just darker. Not exactly what I'm looking for but it's a good alternative

I own a Chinese phone - Xiaomi Redmi K20, great phone but the hardware hates Google. Seems to have a gltich where YouTube won't play smoothly with screen off even with a premium subscription. This app just saved me 15.99 a month, what I mean by that is, if you don't really really care about ad free content or downloads then a YouTube premium subscription is now rendered worthless by this app. Thanks devs :)

It's work, but doesn't really turn you screen off. It just makes the screen black. The question is does this take stress off the battery. The reason most want this feature is to preserve the battery life, while still enjoying YT.

App keeps crashing/stopping on Galaxy S8. Used to work perfectly until recently. Screen also turns back on by itself after a minute or so of starting the service. App was great before these issues. Please fix.

Works great! If you turn screen brightness at the lowest and activate the app, then the screen is like if it is OFF. Then it activates screen's visibility with a tap on the screen. Thanks a lot Nov 2018
