BlackBooks Stories

BlackBooks is a social game that presents a series of puzzles set in strange situations to the group. You are given limited information and try to find the explanation to the puzzle. You need to be open-minded, flexible and creative in your questioning and able to put lots of different clues and pieces of information together. Once you've put it all together, you'll want to kick yourself for not working it out sooner! You will learn to discarding the obvious, leave behind traditional modes of thought and throw away preconceptions.
These riddles involve some novel way of thinking or looking at the problem from an unexpected viewpoint. The term 'lateral thinking' was coined by Edward de Bono to denote a problem-solving style that involves looking at the given situation from unexpected angles. It is the sort of thinking that computers cannot not do: creative and perceptual thinking. These puzzles can be more easily solved by applying new approaches and checking assumptions.

If you've done these types of puzzles before, there are many here that have been create specially for BlackBooks. And if you're new to these puzzles then you'll find lots of the classic tales within.

How to Play•The person with the device (Quiz Master) picks a riddle and reads it aloud to the group.

•The group asks questions to try and find the solution to the story. The Q.M. answers the questions using only 'Yes', 'No' and 'Irrelevant'.

•When the group solves the riddle, mark the story as solved and pass the device to another in the group... then start again.

•If you like a story, add it to your favourites or share it on social media (Facebook, Twitter, Instagram and Pinterest are supported)
