Blackmagic Camera Controller

This has been a great app, and has helped me in lots of situations. Complaints: Everytime I minimize the app to use a different one and come back to it, the app will disconnect the camera, and needs to be reconnected. It's a hassle. Feature request: A way to adjust microphone sensitivity and mic source.

Nice app, but the length of the focus slider is far too short to reliably achieve accurate focus. Even on a 10" tablet with the slider scale set to 2x. I *strongly* and respectfully suggest the addition of a mode in which the zoom and focus sliders occupy the entire height of the screen. In all other respects, this is the best app I've tried for the BMPCC 4k (and I believe I have them all). But the inexplicable decision to limit the size of the focus slider makes every app virtually useless for my work. Increase the size of the focus slider to the maximum height allowed by any particular device, and it's five stars all the way.

Really great app! Needs an update to have all of the correct labels for the Blackmagic 6K, but I love the functionality!! You can change any setting and even run/stop the camera from your phone! That feature alone is one I've wanted for a long time. This will be great for my focus pullers to use so I don't have to worry about certain settings when operating the camera! The layout is nice and simple. It also connects in seconds which is invaluable. Very well done app.

Just downloaded this, nice app. Obviously some limitations, but based on my understanding of the BMPCC4K Bluetooth API this is entirely out of the hands of develpers. Overall the functionality and responsiveness is superb. Can I ask for a dedicated focus pulling mode? It would be nice to switch onto a full-screen, simple page that only has sliders and a set of A-B-C (or more) focus points. Having a simplified interface for that in the same way we do now for slating would be amazing! Overall a cool app, and really good to see that it's so well supported.

Great app, with many features! Especially like the quick view page with false color and playback very useful. Some kind suggestions: Streamline UI for Focus Racking. It is not as straightforward as other apps nor as smooth. Perhaps adding another page will help declutter screen info. One great feature is remote stills!!!! The only app supporting this Latest update cannot be installed. Issues on connecting to camera. Bluetooth has to be turned off and on again in camera in order to connect.

Amazing app, it's nice to see one with the camera's own interface. The interface design makes it as easy as the real interface of the camera to navigate the various settings. Rack focus is great, can set even the smallest increments as needed. The company is also nice enough to accept suggestion and that alone makes it one of the greatest apps I have ever tried!

Really like this App. I wish it had more rack focus points to set. That would be huge. I use this App together with my Edelkrone HeadPlus and slider which is also controlled by Bluetooth. Something that Edelkrone does well is let you set points and then take a photo to have a visual representation of what the next point jumps to. This could be a UI enhancement. In a perfect world I could use this App to control the BMPC4K focus and the Edelkrone movements at the same time. One can dream :)

Unfortunately, this app is not there yet, though it's been the most expensive app I've ever purchased. Virtually none of the functionality responds. Of the $6 or whatever I paid for it, I feel like I'm getting about $1.20 worth of functionality for what does actually work. Fortunately, I'm able to adjust white balance, ISO, aperture, and use the autofocus button. Everything else does NOT work. I hope in the future this app will have all the functionality working properly.

It initially didn't connect to the camera but support emailed me helping to solve the problem. Great customer service there. Even better. The programmer listened to my request to smoothen out the focusing. 3 days later he uploaded a new version with smoother focusing. I tried it and it was fixed. Thank you!

UPDATED: After further testing, if our UMP is on at the same time, this app will not connect to the pocket 4K, even if the Ursa mini pro is not paired with my phone. I'm not trying to connect them both to the app at the same time, the UMP Bluetooth cannot even be on. Also the app will not shut off unless I go into phone settings and force stop. Without the UMP Bluetooth being on, it works great! So if you don't have another camera using Bluetooth, you should be fine. I need both + separate apps

fabulous app. As is, I absolutely love it. I would like to see a aperature step mode implemented in addition to single 0.1 increments. I love the tiny increments, but once you get to 5.2 or so, I could really use more of a 1/5 incrementing for smooth light transition. my sony does 1/3 steps and its irritating to fix in post.

It's pretty neat and comes in handy. Also makes you look really fancy on a shoot lol. I know the bmpcc isn't made for stills but this app would be a LIFE SAVER if it could capture stills somehow to compensate for the very bad way the camera handles it. Some things I wish this app would improve on: 1. Prevent screen from sleeping option - If I had my phone to the person doing the slating and the phone keeps sleeping I have to keep unlocking the phone for them. I could turn off the sleep feature myself but this would be nice. 2. Can't stop the app from running in the background without going into the app settings and forcing it to stop 3. Option to take stills - Yes I know this camera wasn't made for stills but having this in the app would make up for the very bad way it's done in camera 4. UI - User interface is pretty rough, everything is grey and white, I often get lost in the app and the overall look is unappealing I still like this app very much, It's very useful but if something that worked just as well and was slightly more flashy came along it wouldn't take much for me to switch.

App keeps asking for a pin for bluetooth. This is the kind of thing that should be addressed up front. Don't put the user through this waste of time. Ok here is what happened since this first review. I found the solution by trial and error. Start up the app and it will ask for a pin number. Go to the black magic 6k screen to turn on bluetooth I believe it's under setup. As soon as you turn on bluetooth on the 6k your pin number should pop up. Install the number on the app and it will pare.

Had to try this app since the BMPCC4K is my favorite camera right now. Im loving the app so far. Great job on the functionality as well as the layout and look of it. Works smoothly on my galgaxy s8 phone. For future updates it would be nice to be able to set more than 2 focus points and also adjust the speed of rack focusing between the points.

Update: App seems to be connecting again; so... 5 stars! This app has stopped working, since the recent BM update to my BMPCC4K. The camera says it currently has software version 7.3. Annoying, as the app was working perfectly up to a few weeks ago. I realise, it may not be the app's fault, but stay away until the issue is fixed. As soon as it is, I'll update my review and give it 5 stars.

Fantastic app! Functions really well, interface is easy to understand and use, and even gives you more than you would get from the camera's actual interface! Best one available! Only suggestion I would have (unless the function is there, and I just didn't see it), are buttons that toggle false color, zebras, LUT, etc, much like the 3 Preset buttons on top of the camera...

Overall works pretty well but I'm curious why you can't switch between black magic raw and pro res with the app. The buttons are there, but they just don't work

Got the app to work. Very good. I like that, by looking at other reviewers you are improving the app. It would be good to have a custom button page where you can add functions you use the most. Also access to the presets on the camera would be good for fast changing of settings.

Everything works well so far. Some things seem to not work flawlessly but I think its just user error. One thing that I don't believe is included is the ability to take photo from the app. I know this is not a camera for taking photos and that they are the same quality as a still from the video, but it would be nice to have.

This app is amazing. you can control the camera for moments when you can't touch the camera or be next to it. you could possibly use as a remote follow focus with the right lenses. It's great that there is finally an app for android users. I highly remember this If you're a pocket 4k operator this will be a good tool to have.

this is definitely the best controller app bar none. can't wait to see it come to iPad as we bought the iPad for this purpose, not realizing how limited the available iOS apps were. is it possible to add letters to the scene number, i.e. scene 15A? you can do this on the camera itself but none of the apps allow this. can you control multiple cameras at the same time? At NAB 2018 BMD said you could edit slate data and start all cameras at during multicam shoots. no apps do this, though.

I updated my review because I got the app to work. This app has a lot of potential, however I recommend mentioning resetting the bluetooth app for others to see. I love this app and it does its job. However, I think there should be an option for shutter measurements and to change internal luts. Other than that everything is seamless. Thanks! :)

Very nice apps with great features. Its annoying when doing playback you cannot pause, when u try to pause it jumps back to record mode. UMP G1, Uptdate: Today I had my first commercial shoot with the app in hand, i was 1AC and focus pullter. OMG IAM IN LOVE WITH IT. Although i nearly fat fingered changed a resolution setting without noticing, i found all the features grea. There is room for improvement but MUST APP for UMP owners.

Works well for the most part. I'd love it if there was a way to mix audio input levels: right now I can only manipulate speaker and headphone levels. A LUT selection/toggle function would also be much appreciated.
