If you actually have a Jot, instead of some other ewriter, then I think it's pretty good. The best thing about it is the auto feature which scans fast. Yea, the results may not always be the best but I will use this for now, unless I find something better. I use this for grocery lists. Btw- I use Microsoft Lens a lot and that gets better image results but it is not fast.

It only took ten minutes of messing around with the app to see that no, the reviews were not inaccurate, as much as I'd been wishing they'd be. The app all and all feels like something that was quickly slapped together with the bare minimum required to fulfill it's function as a scanner. The scanning itself often fails to capture the entire screen of the Boogie Board, even when it is perfectly flat and in a well lit room. The quality of the partial scans it does manage to take are abysmal at best. Even if one were to overcome these issues and get it to scan a decent image of the board, there are no functions that I could find that would allow the user anything beyond the most basic organization of saved "pages". At best you can presumably rearrange their order or delete them, but there were no buttons I could find to create folders or any equivalent feature to keep notes organized. so, to sum it up: It fulfills it's primary function poorly, and has none of the quality of life features one would expect from a modern image scanning app. I am disappointed in this outcome, given I have always been a big fan of the idea behind this app and other products like it. That said however, even if the official app is pitiful, I intend to keep using my boogie board and just save the notes with a more competent image scanner.

I wanted to like this app. I wanted the low ratings to be inaccurate or not entirely truthful. But... no... this app is terrible. I tried it on both my phone and on my android tablet. On the tablet, the picture would be auto-cropped and cut out portions of the note. It did the same thing on my phone but it also couldn't focus the image. Definition of FAIL: not being able to to do the thing you are designed to do. Example: Boogie Board Jot app.

First impression is that it's difficult to get it lined up just right for auto mode, maybe because of glare and reflections. I got one good scan in manual mode. Subsequent scans contain background clutter and need to be cropped, for which it includes a crop button right on the post-scan window. Seems ok otherwise. It may require some practice to get it to scan quickly and correctly.

It does what it should do, provided that you scan the tablet in very bright light. For some reason I was hoping the tablet would sync up with the phone via Bluetooth or something and upload the drawing. It does not do that. It essentially scans the tablet and gives you a black and white copy of what you drew/wrote. Keep the tablet in bright light to scan properly.

It's a great concept. I love the board. I was thinking in my head it would be great if I just pressed a button on the board like the erase button and it saved it right to the app on my phone or tablet. Not scanning or taking a picture. There are note apps for that and you don't need the board then. Going to use it at work instead of killing sticky notes all day to myself.

Works OK. Only real problem is when I take a photo and exit back to retake, it just brings up the same photo from before. If I save it then it will take my next picture when I go back to camera. I'm not really having glare issues like most users report. Overall it's an alright app for an otherwise great device. I would rate it a 3.5 out of 5. If a future update can correct my problem (already tried reset/reinstall - Note 8) I would give it about a 3.9 out of 5. Maybe a mild nuisance but it does get kind of annoying. Also that the photos in the demo do match the actual quality of the app and it seems a bit misleading. Thanks for reading and thank you for the awesome product but please work on the app too - so much potential and I really wanna give you guys a 5.

The app just feels bare minimum. It uses the camera to take a picture of the boogie board and saves you're writing in black on a white background. Despite having to always readjust the auto cropping if writing an inch or closer to the board's borders, it looks acceptable. However, a typical basic phone camera can probably do the same and has more reliable cropping. To make matters worse, the app adds no other new functionality. There is no tagging, no sorting, no folders... There is no cloud storage, it's all stored locally... Though you can manually "share" it to you're google drive if you wanted to. This can also be done in large groups with multiselect, but it just feels lackluster when: 1. Cloud Auto-sync is a thing but isn't being used 2. Regular Android Gallery already has the option to mass share to your Google Drive or delete. The app serves one purpose, having you're writing saved in a "Scan like" format. It's notably easier to read and different from a gray scale filter, so those with color blindness may find use for storing it via the app. However, other users may be fine just taking a picture with their camera.

The idea is cool; however, the auto capture mode doesn't seem to work. And the crop functionally is painfully innaccurate. lining it up perfectly with the edge of the boogie board causes the edges to be cut out by roughly half an inch. This app is very basic, which would be fine if the basic functions actually worked properly. I hope to see this app improved in the future.

Mat. E. Dec 22, 2019

The crop function cuts an inch or so off the top and bottom of what I actually define for it to crop. The auto setting for capturing images doesn't seem to trigger on anything, so it never takes a picture, no wonder the default is set to manual. This app should very easily see my boogie board, capture the image, and then crop the borders. I shouldn't be manually adjusting every image I attempt to take. I might as well just snap a picture of my boogie board with my camera and scrap this app.

I like the idea of this app, but it always cuts off the top and bottom of the board. It's too bad, because this problem would be easily solvable. I can see that it's recognizing and outlining the entire board, but for some reason, it still insists on cutting off the edges. It would also probably help if there were a way to enable flash, or at least have the app not turn off my phone's flashlight when I take a picture. More light would probably help.

I love it! Scans do work best with your phone in portrait position straight up and down. Also the Boogie board needs to be sitting still in well-lighted area. Quality is going to vary depending on your phones camera megapixel/quality. *I find this item to be very well made sturdy strong and does the job perfectly for taking notes and without wasting paper or ink. Really good if you are not supposed to keep physical notes... Beats having to shred up your paper after notes. One press of a button and information clears and its ready for your next notations. Once again the product is awesome! and the app is good for keeping copies of the notes you do want to keep. I'm using app on LG k20 smartphone.

Kat. D. Dec 22, 2018

App takes poor quality photos of the board. Most of the photos capture reflections of light and things in the background. When trying to retake the photo you have to completely close out of the photo mode or it shows the previous photo taken on the edit page. This app needs some serious work, its a brilliant idea. Just terrible execution.

bla. g. Nov 16, 2019

I love the idea but the auot mode and even the manual mode are seriously broken. They see a box but then they cut out important information from the boogie board that's inside that box. Then, if you try to retake the picture, it doesn't retake, it just shows the last picture taken. Very bad programming.

Mat. H. Dec 27, 2018

Very disappointed with this app. Pictures rarely turn out well. Even when one does turn out, the "edit" mode is a joke. My kids wanted to color in their pictures they drew but the edit mode only let's you draw yellow or black lines on top of the image. App is a great idea but horrible, horrible execution. Our family would be much more loyal to this product if they treated this app as an extension of their product as they should!

I actually really enjoy this app because I use this for college and being able to not waste paper but save notes is a great luxury. The app works well. The lighting issues can be annoying but you can easily get around that being an issue and being able to crop what to scan is awesome because it doesn't always get all of my work on the first try

Kim. V. Nov 5, 2019

I like the idea but the scanning feature is flawed. It doesn't pick up the edges of the screen so you can't write from edge to edge. It also doesn't work on small print. You have to write fairly large for the scanning g feature to pick it up. Wish it worked better. Maybe the app could be updated.

Ric. K. Dec 27, 2018

this app works fine. people dont seem to know what their phones can and cannot do. but this app does what it was made to do. there was clearly glare on my jot pad but the app didnt register any of it, only the text and shapes i put on the pad. the auto mode works flawlessly, the app picks up the edge of the pad and only what is on the pad, 5 stars there. the manual mode captures well but the cropping tool could use some work. otherwise the app is simple, functional, does what it was made to do.

ama. t. Dec 24, 2020

Leaves a lot to be desired. The picture is a low quality negative, and any glare is a big problem. Would be great if background stayed black and writing stayed green. Only editing is adding in Black and yellow. Why not an erase function? Add more font and background colors. Also, kids use this product. Add some fun features for them too. Maybe some stamps, emoji pictures. This app could end up being a major selling point for this product, but it feels like poorly put together after thought.

The writing board itself is great, but this app doesn't work exactly as described. The photo does appear black and white, but it does not capture the whole photo, it crops it a bit smaller even if the border while taking a photo is exactly on the tablet edges. The letters/drawings are not appearing clear or whole. You can catch two or three words out of eight. Sorry if the describing is insuficient, english is not my native tongue. *! This is done on a Xiaomi 13.5" writing tablet.

Ama. C. Apr 28, 2020

App is ok. kinda Meh. The auto mode is awful, always do manual. I would suggest the developers finding a way to create a way for users to create folders/organize notes. As it is difficult to decifer between notes on the home screen bc they all kind of blur together theres no separation between each pic. Or maybe if there was a way to save them by date. IDK but some way for users to organize the notes would be GREAT. ALSO Wish there was a way2 erase in Jot &more room to add 2note.

Sus. M. Jan 4, 2019

It doesn't "scan" the screen, it photographs it in black and white. Sadly, there is a lot of speckles to clean up to have a nice clean image. It is cool that the crop feature allows you to change the shape of the markings/text but that's it.

Ren. A. Jun 19, 2020

Beware. As soon as I downloaded this app and allowed it access to my internal storage, i repeatedly received notification that I had low device memory left. Prior to downloading, I had about 6 gigs free, and even after deleting, the problem has persisted. I actually liked the way the images came out, but not at the expense of my device capability.

Mic. H. Oct 2, 2020

It does what it says on the box. And it works. Simple, quick and straightforward. Anyone expecting Bluetooth or Wifi or cable connection better think before making daft comments. It runs off a single CR2016 battery. Brilliantly done if you ask me.

Aid. M. Feb 19, 2021

Good but not perfect. For those that Auto mode doesn't work must put the Tablet on a different-color background. I wish the developer debugg these in next updates: - hanging and stopping while using - there is not any additional options like Folder or photo edit ( especially earasing some parts of the taken photo ) and a huge great option will be combaining a few photos to one

Jul. S. v. l. Dec 26, 2018

Very basic. I will just use my camera and edit it with my photo editor instead despite the fact it doesn't automatically change the image to black and white like this app does. It only has black and yellow as options for writting on the image. It might be nice for some people to keep images seperate using this app.

Lcm. L. Jan 29, 2020

I bought both the 4 & 8.5 inch boards. Works great! Read the reviews. I have a stylus phone but this helps not having my phone all the time while working out. Took a few times to figure out how to get the best resolution. Works great every time once i expand the pics. Really great and very inexpensive without needing my phone.

Raq. F. Feb 6, 2019

Very limited capability. It has a tendency to cut off the top of my notes and take generally poor photos. There is also no way to organize your notes into folders...it's basically a gallery for poor resolution photos...not as expected at all.
