Great help BUT, there are two annoyances for me. Firstly when adding new books by scanning or manually, the default Bookshelf can't be set. It just seems to throw up the same wrong one until something happens (God knows what) then it changes to the last one entered. I wish it allowed bookshelves to be added on-the-fly and the used the new one as a default until you specify a different one. Secondly, the thumbnail photos taken with the camera are too low a resolution.
As others have reported it is impossible to scan codes as it immediately throws up an error and tells you to reboot your device. This does nothing to fix the problem and so you are trapped in a never-ending cycle. It appears to be some conflict with Knox which I think is security related on Samsung devices. Disappointed as it looks like a nice app but not practical with no ability to scan book details. Uninstalled.
Great organization, but awful and broken ISBN scanner. One of the best organizers, keeping the author and series in the proper order. Able to have multiple "bookshelves" to make it easy to sort your library. Entering the ISBN number manually works, but scanning doesn't; for whatever reason it says there's an error then opens my CVS app every time. Kind of annoying having to keep entering numbers with 1000+ books. Edit:Download 'Barcode Scanner' by ZXing Team. This will fix the scanning function.
This is the best & most valuable app on my devices! I had to get a new phone and Book Catalgue is the only app that has been a quick & frustration-free set-up. It's well thought-out, doesn't waste my time and is easy to show others to use. I've recommended it to dozens of people so far. The dev is always very helpful & patient when contacted. Thank you!!!!
Scanner Experience wasn't good until I went to github where it identified only one of two the recommended scanners as being any good. I would love to see it use the scanner built into android cameras (and, I presume, IOS). Bulk uploading ISBNs from a csv would be helpful, access across different devices (perhaps using GDrive as a storage site). Ability to automatically back up to a GDrive (dropbox, box, onedrive) would be magic; I previously lost my catalogue when my phone died.
I used to like this app. Now, as I tried to install it on a new phone, I see that the new version is asking me to use a third party barcode scanning app. And that app looks very suspiciou, as it requires six or seven permissions, most of which have nothing to do with scanning. I have a perfectly safe barcode app already installed and I do not plan to install another. I think Book Catalogue should incorporate its own scanner app, as the old version did. Sorr, guys, you've just lost a customer!😭
This is the best book catalog app I've ever used. It has the best features, finds the books information better than any other app, it's so easy to use, managed and even backup. I've used this apo on several devices, migrating my backup from one to the other. If they would only make a DVD or movie catalog app, it would be the best.
You have to jump through some hoops to enable an ISBN scanner, and I found it difficult & unintuitive to organize the books. I can't seem to put a book on multiple shelves or under multiple categories, so this isn't really what I'm looking for.
This app isn't perfect. But it's much better than the app which has a 4.7 called "My library" which I find short on features. E. G. Loaned books, bookshelves, book ratings. I find the import on that doesn't work either with an excel import. It does on this. So I've stuck with this. That looks better than this though. This is too dark as a theme. Looks wise this could improve and also include backup to cloud with the backup file rather than csv would be great on this. But these are minor things
Best book catalogue app ever! I have just downloaded the latest version and glad to have this back after a long hiatus (Google delisted forcing certain functional changes). While waiting I tried a number of alternative apps but none measured up. This is the most thorough, flexible, useful book catalogue app.
This is my favorite library app, the only thing I want is to be able to sign in so it saves everything I do. The save option that it has doesn't really work if you get a new phone. Since the new update, everything is broken. Cover art doesn't show up, can't find books, etc.
This is a good app so you dont buy doubles when you go to the bk store. I've done this when I wanted to own my own set. Problems: I currently live in a very small apartment, my books are in storage. I can't scan bar codes right now, I search the web by author so I can add the books I remember having, it will only list one book & there is no way to look through all of the books written by the author. Essentially I have to remember every single title in order to add them. Very frustrating.
I love this app, but I'm having an issue regarding my books display ability. At first when I catalogued my books it said 120, but then the count keeps lowering. I have noticed the book itself missing from the list. It still says the books are there if i try readding them, and that I'm trying to make a duplicate. Is there a way to fix this issue?
Have loved and recommended this app to everyone hutbhave literally never been able to make the back up work. It didnt matter as much because my last phone coincided with me moving so it was a good time to update everything. This time I'm out 400+ books (multiple days of scanning) because I can't seem to get the back up file to work yet again. May need to find an alternative. I can't keep losing days at a time to scanning all my books AGAIN and AGAIN
When I try to add a book by scanning the barcode/ISBN, it says "Sorry, the Android camera encountered a problem. You may need to restart the device." But even after restart, it does the same thing. Wish it would work; I have a lot of books I'd like to scan & catalog.
Does what it's supposed to do, and is easy to use. Absolutely love it. the only things I wish it had though is shelf sharing (it would make buying books For presents easier if someone could actually go on to the shelf and see what books I have beforehand--criticism from my sister who often buys me books as presents and hates having to scour my shelves) and a continuous barcode scanner for when you're scanning your whole shelf in the first time (it takes a while doing it one at a time)
Easy to use but too many cover pictures not being downloaded and these are from international titles. Adding cover images can be tricky as you have access only to the recent items in your gallery, not your whole gallery. Sharing is less than useless. All it does is open the messenger app, none of the books details are filled in on the blank message. Such a pity.
Love the ease of the app. Been using it for years. The only problem I have is that it will not send my books to goodreads. I t says it has the task queued up but never sends it.
I have downloaded this app three times in the past four years. Rather than actually backing up my data, it does not maintain any backup whatsoever. After the third loss of all my data, which is over 120 books, I am done with this app!
Catalog feature was decent and I enjoyed having all my books a fingertip away...until the app deleted my entire library. All of the hours I spent organizing wasted. Download and use at your own risk. Edit: I'm not sure how to message you to offer more info. I don't see any contact information. Happy to give you more info, but uninstalled awhile ago because the app deleted my entire library catalog.
Would have loved to give it a 5 star rating but the ISBN scan function hasn't worked no matter what I try. It worked for the longest time before so I'm not sure what happened, but having to type in the full number each time is very frustrating. A shame, because otherwise the app is great
This is one of those apps that just ALWAYS works. Never any issues. Never any problems. It just does what it says it does. I am a book-a-holic and buy way more books then I will ever have time to read. This app helps me to keep them organized. Not only to remember which I own (useful when at the book store and can't remember if I already bought a book or not), but I can also rate them, save notes and/or reviews to share with friends if they ask me what I thought of a given book. After scanning in about a 1,000 books, it is also nice to be able to save and transfer all that data to a new device each time I buy one. I'm telling you, rescanning every single one of my books again, would not be fun. If you are looking for something to organize your collection, this is it, PERIOD. I have used it for multiple years and have not had one single issue. Absolute homerun for the dev.
