BOOK WALKER (eBooks)

The app contains a huge collection of Light Novels, and a lot of Manga as well. The only problem is the image quality, both in Manga and Light Novels. The image resolution is extremely low. It is not possible to zoom in on such resolution. The reader is also redundant, but it's bearable. If the Images are improved, then I may suggest this App. Otherwise, it's pretty much a waste...

The app is fine for purchasing ebooks. Really bad for reading them. Why is there not an option to keep screen awake? One basic function on an app that requires you to stare at your screen for a few minutes without interacting with the screen. Especially since phones often dim the display after a few seconds of idle time. And that is not even mentioning others that want their phone to automatically lock after 30 seconds of inactivity.

Review prompted by recent app redesign. I like the improved speed, but there is much more white space now. I used to be able to fit 15 or more books on my screen when viewing my list (library, as it is now called). I really liked that, since I have smaller phone. Now i can fit 6, maybe 9 books at once on my screen. Disappointed, hope they add some customizable menus and resizing options to accomodate smaller decices.

Finally! A way to buy Manga in Japanese that isn't super sleezy! Shame on Google for the coin thing, but I'll survive. Easy to use interface, bilingual checkout, and both an English and a Japanese store. All the series I wanted to read are on here in full, and I don't have to pay 40 dollars in shipping because, well, they're ebooks! Edit: Hey guys, this is just the rating you get for doing your job and making a good app that does what it says on the tin! You bet I'll keep using it ;)

Ever since a certain update, the app cannot open on my phone: oneplus 6t It was a pretty nice app when it worked. I haven't rooted my phone and originally bought it from t Mobile. The browser version doesn't really work on firefox anymore either, so I'm stuck with no way to read stuff on my phone.

The cover image selection process needs to be improved. It would be better if we could select individual folders instead of having to sort through every single photo that's currently stored in the phone

Pretty decent way to buy manga and light novels, my only issue is I hoped there was an offline mode. I travel a lot and being able to read without wifi or using data would be great!

It sad that you are not making the app work for the other devices of old versions. It isn't always possible to read online especially where there is no internet connection and you wish to read offline. Please fix it so that it will not be as if we have to buy new phones of latest android versions just to read the novels and Mangas offline.

Edit on 22/1/2022:The payment is now working, and the problem before this is likely a device problem. 22/12/2021. The book browser is alright and there are many titles, and I am actually glad that they want implement the coin charge using the Google Play payment, however I would like to know when they will actually implement the new payment system, since I would like to try it (altough it shows an error with states (connectionGppCliant::BILLING UNAVAILABLE).

it works fine sort of I can read my novels, but the general UX is pretty bad. everything loads very slow, it just feels like a really slow web browser disguised as an app. The reader feels like it at least runs at 10 fps, just moving the page from left to right disturbs me because of how not-smooth it is. most icons are very square and the UI just doesn't feel modern. I'd love to see a rework and I'd love to use book walker in the future if they do, but in its current state I probably won't be.

I really like the new update with the audiobook's.

It is so hard to navigate because of lag and poor User Interface. Also it will be nicer if we can able buy coins via google pay to buy books.

It's a good app but wish instead of using Google translate which can only translate a single sentence to either make your own translation app or use Bing Translate. It is really inconvenient using a subpar translation app. Please do something about it

the serves is good but the app is poorly designed. Not being able to buy books on the app is a big drawback and having a confusing layout reminds me of what I would have seen in 2006, not 2019. I would recommend the servis for easy access for books with a large variety and there is a variety of customization options. All that is needed is a updated UI and to be able to purchase on the app.

Update:I somehow worked out some of the download issues through a a hard reinstall. The app remains a shadow of it former self due to the change of interface. It is nicer to be able to put as many books as you want in one shelf, but the display is blander. A lot of promotional pictures and backgrounds were given out in the past, I used to have them as backgrounds for the shelves. Now they must be awkwardly cropped to use as none of them match the new format. Performance is inconsistent too.

Recent update causes crashes often. Often does not allow reading if you have no internet connection, which is a problem if you live somewhere where power may be turned off for several days (ie. PG&E). Would be nice if we had some way to read when completely offline. While it seemed to be a bug, this has happened enough times that it has an effect, especially on a wifi-only tablet or when waiting in a low signal area...

I really hope developers will hear me out here. I appreciate that integration with Google translate were added, but oh boy it's not usable at all. As far as I can tell, it has symbol limit, so you can't translate whole page at once - ok, but you can't even use it to translate a single word either. You can not just tap and have the word selected, most of the time you'll need to adjust the selection manually which is incredibly irritating - miss taps and double taps just ruin all your efforts

Offers a lot of translated light novels and manga. The reader is good, has a dark mode, and is easy to navigate. The only thing that somewhat annoys me is the inexplicable loading after finishing a book. Even in my home wifi with full signal it sometimes takes over a minute and I don't see anything new. I usually just disable wifi for a second and it stops.

I overall enjoy the app's UI. You can select different background colours when you're reading books, although the background of the rest of the UI is always white. You can also change the font size when reading books, without ruining anything, although you can't change font type, nor make it bold for better reading. My suggestions would be to add a dark mode option to the UI of the app, and to allow users to change the type of font that is used when reading books.

I was looking for an alternative to Amazon since they've been removing a lot of LNs and manga. Book Walker seems like the safest option as I wouldn't be surprised if Google and Apple follow Amazon's lead soon, but the UI for the app is total trash. It's nearly impossible to navigate it without confusion, the settings are confusing, and they keep the subscription tab despite it being exclusive to japanese titles. I'd like to recommend it and use it myself, yet as it currently stands I can't.

Right of the bat it strikes me that this is NOT a manga reader which is what i was expexting but rather an online bookstore where you can read manga. It is better compared to something like kindle books rather than tapas. I like that they have an advanced search option (edit: I found the group by series button). The app is kinda slow and the ui is confusing there are notices that cover a portion of the screen if you don't close them. It has a wide selction of gold tier mangas.

Generally a nice idea and once you've managed to open a book, it's alright. Unfortunately, the app is otherwise awfully slow, the UI is pretty outdated (except for the bottom navigation) & inconsistent, the interface language is a mix of Japanese and English, and the 'Store' page seems to be just a wrapper (/ "browser tab") of the mobile website together with banners to download the app & constant banners and pop-ins for coins which reduce the overall experience.

I like the app, more like I like the service. It quite struggling with the app at first but after few updates it become better. Not only that, I can read manga/ln in legal way and reread whenever I want. There are ton of free manga on internet but I want to contribute something to the author as well as the artist that works with them. And I want more bookshelf skin! But make it easier to get.

I can read books, offline, and there seems to be basic integration with Google Translate. Other than this the app is slow and restricts anything else you might want to do with the book (want to copy a few kanji to look up the meaning? too bad!) and more importantly unlike Amazon there's absolutely no way to get the book somewhere else that's more pleasant to read, such as an e-ink reader. I'll probably only use this for books that I can only read on Bookwalker, which thankfully are not many!

App just shows a white screen and never loads up. I moved it from the SD card works great now.

I couldn't really use Google Play billing services, that could have been me not figuring out how to make it work, a misunderstanding or it's not a thing in BookWalker. The UX/UI seems awful, basically just their website slapped on and called it an "app", many times lagging and sometimes switching to the Japanese version for no reason. Well, anyway it's good if you only use the desktop version.

I like the recent bookshelf update, but it would be cool to have separete reading settings for LNs and mangas, as I like to have next page on the left side as it's easier to read one handed on my e-reader, now I have to reverse it in the settings every time I switch between them. EDIT: Also it would be cool if it had an option to turn off swipe up gesture to bring nav menu up as it interferes with my device gestures.
