Yes, you now have to get the app from the developers web site. A plus, as far as I'm concerned. More importantly, this is still BY FAR the best ebook reader for Android. Or, in fact for any platform. Nicer to use, far more features than the undeservedly better known readers. Easily search and annotate. Easily manage a huge library. Lots of control over text display, manual or automatic. Don't give up your search for the perfect reader until you give this one try.
I've tried all other well known ebook readers and then some: _none_ comes even close. Not a matter of what is good about it (nested collections, tags, the series feature, where one can give a number to each book in a series and order by that, filtering by almost anything, all the notes features), but rather why it's not perfect: not being updated anymore; the stores section doesn't work with Play Books (embedded browser is outdated); the manual is quite poor. But! Now we have premium for free!
Users should actually read that there is a new version for Android 10 on the website, instead of giving a low rating. Best ebook reader app, perfect fonts, perfect picture zoom, perfect and clean UI and menus. True to publisher's CSS, and still customizable if you don't need that. All other apps render book pages differently and like they want. Jean-Marie, please get well and continue! I'm sure the overall rating will get better. Since 2012 I haven't found a better reading app!
This app makes me so sad. It's easily the best reader out there, or would be except for a few sync bugs that make the feature almost useless. I wish the devs hadn't given up on this product. I even pay for the sync service. My covers keep vanishing and my books keep getting deleted requiring repeated downloads from their server. If you don't use sync, the program is great if a bit hard to use at first. As soon as Pocketbook Reader is stable, I'll probably jump ship.
The app here did break for me when Android updated, but I contacted the developers and they sent me a link to the updated app and that is now working great. They are not able to post the new app on Google Play for technical reasons I don't understand (something about incompatibility between 32 and 64 bit apps), but I can confirm the developers are still around and responding to users. It's inconvenient, yes, but they were very courteous. The app is working well for me now.
I absolutely love / loved this app! I am hoping you stay alive, I have years of notes saved, easily accessible and so on. Regarding the app, perfect for academics. Save highlights and downloads them into an easily accessible format... I feel like this fact aline sets it apart from many of the other apps that I use.
Well guess with Android 12 it wants to keep crashing and not open. Thanks for this considering it was a paid app and you don't seem to want to do anything about it. And why can't you make it where we can make a separate backup file? I have lost my database of 1000+ books too many times. Too bad we couldn't go with 0 stars.
This could be the perfect reading app. Free version is great, but it lacks TTS, so I decided to buy the Premium version today. TTS and other premium features are worth of the invested money, but... Unfortunately, I am having trouble with opening my local library's web page/store, so I cannot borrow books from there. Some stores just do not open. In the Free version, this works fine, so I still have to use both versions to get everything that I wanted and that should be covered by Bookari Premium. Please fix this bug and you'll definitely get 5 stars from me!
It was my favorite reading app on my Oneplus5. I see the support stopped long ago - no updates from 2018. I switched to Galaxy 9S, and it does not work. Error message, that app is designed for an older version of Android. Very strange, taking into account that on both OnePlus and Galaxy Android 10 is installed. That's way only 3 stars. Otherwise it should be 5.
UPDATE: Jan 2020: in the last few months ,there have been several weekend long server errors preventing syncing or account access. I have now cancelled my subscription, moved over to moon+ reader and now enjoy the benefits of a Dropbox sync and boo subscription fees. I cannot recommend bookari premium at all now.
This app is quite flexible. My favorite feature is that I can choose horizontal reading, and it stays that way even if I'm reading on my side. I really prefer that my reading app NOT change from portrait to landscape just because I'm laying on my side as I read.
Garbage-ware. This used to be the best reader on Android, period. But after several foolish developer decisions and apparent abandonment, it's 100% non-functional. Crashes on EVERY startup with Android 10 on a Pixel 3XL. The final embarrassment of a fallen ex-champion.
Just got the most recent android update and it won't start. It's been weeks with no customer service response, and the app hasn't been updated since 2018. They online portal if unable to export any notes, and yet the company still is collecting subscription fees. No one answers the phone when attempting to call. It's clear this business is defunct. Should be removed from apple store. STAY AWAY FROM THIS APP
i love this app. i especially love that you can turn an ebook into taking book by turning on the read feature. The feature will happily read all of the book and you can modify the speed pitch and timber of the reader through your phone's settings. great little app. use it as lot while I'm working
It seems like the developers abandoned this PAID app since nearly a year there is no updates to keep up with new android OS versions,no replies from them either(wrote multiple times for different problems and NOTHING even though i paid for the premium version!!!!)Simply downgrading from 2 to 1 star!
Does not work in Android 10. Despite Statement from Mantano no workaround is being issued. I have cancelled my subscription and will attempt to get money back as the subscription was paid after it was clear that the app no longer worked. Shame as it was the best ebook reader by far. I will never buy from that firm again.
I used to love this app, but it's not working anymore. I can actually open an epub file to read it. Lovely. I see the app was last updated in 2018. Went to the website and the copyright date is still 2018. I'm guessing as of now it's vaporware. I suggest moving on to a more recently updated app.
I followed the instructions for downloading and installing the standalone app via apk download. Kept getting a message at end of process saying "App not installed". In the end I uninstalled the old version via Google play, reinstalled via apk file and logged in. All worked, now synching.
This app is horrible. Nothing sync between devices. All my notes and annotations don't sync and I have the premium version. Keep your money, don't buy the premium version.
Abandonware. Doesn't work anymore.. Used to be one of the (if not the best) best readers around. Devs haven't updated since early 2018. Paid for this app and the cloud service is still charging me monthly for sync. Seeking legal measures. Too bad.
pure gold. I've used this app for years and it is the best. dictionary lookup, audio reader, highlighting, bookmarks, notes. In some ways better than a physical book!
This is very much out of date. The reader interface has problems when the phone is set to full screen gestures. The bottom icons are not accessible.
I really liked this app, until I updated Android about a week ago. Now it no longer works, I can't access my notes and highlights, and the developer has yet to send anything other than an automated response to my questions via email.
It was a really nice and useful app until it worked on older phones. On S10e it was never able to start, crashing constantly. Since no updates from developer since a while, better to buy other reader.
I purchased this app as free version wasn't available. Now it's not working at all. Not able to open a single file. Don't know if it the issue with Android 10 or what so ever. You need to urgently update the app or else I NEED A FULL REFUND FOR MY PURCHASE!!!!!
In general the app is good but one of the benefits of the premium version is sharing across multiple devices. The problem is that you are only allowed to install the premium version on one device. If you try to download a copy on a second device you get an error saying that you already have a copy. If you are thinking just send a help request think again. As others have pointed out they have a strict policy of not responding.
