I love that I can mark books "not for me" and choosing story elements I like. Also the UI is pretty. Now for gripes: I would have liked to be able to import my goodreads list. It's not exactly huge, but the prospect of having to add several hundred books manually is a bit of a deal breaker. Especially when linking within the app doesn't work as expected. For example, I wanted to add the Harry Potter series, but there wasn't anywhere to click that would show a page w/ all the books in the series.
Nice and clean UI. I like the discussion section, it's quick and easy place to ask, discuss and recommend books. Search function is clunky, I can't find some specific books, like "Sacred Cows by Karen Olson". Also you can't choose an edition of the book you own, so you can't really update properly your reading progress. API call is a little slow as well. Overall, a good app with a very good potential of becoming a great one. 3 ⭐ for now.
I feel like this app is more suited to fiction readers specifically. I uninstalled it after 5 minutes of trying to find random books I've read lately (non-fiction, science/history) and not finding a single one. So it just wasn't useful for me. Edit: Seeing the devs' response, I'll be checking back in once the GoodReads import is an option (I wasn't looking forward to looking up hundreds of titles, so this will be an incredibly helpful feature).
I think this app can be really great! But I think some of the issues need to be worked out. One issue is searching for authors or clicking on an author's name doesn't pull up a comprehensive list of their books. Even many of the most popular aren't there. (Like for Holly Black, none of her popular books are there.) It's also hard to find books in a series, which is important for a book app. I think if these issues are addressed, this app can be really awesome!
Liking this app so far. What I love the most is where you can import a GR link to a book there and if your phone is in dark mode, it automatically sets the app in that one too. The drawbacks are there's no web version, and wrong book covers and authors in some cases. I also like the Achievement system, and I hope they add more to those. Overall, I recommend this if you're looking for a GR alternative.
The layout is great and so far it's the best Goodreads alternative I've found. However, there are still a lot of things to be improved. Foremost among them, when you click on an author, it should actually take you to that author's works instead of a random list of things. I'd also love to be able to bulk import my bookshelves from Goodreads but right now you have to do EVERY. SINGLE. URL. I have hundreds in my Goodreads. That's just not feasible.
Hi team! I loooove this idea so much. I am running into issues everywhere though. In the profile screen I can't modify my name and I get an error message every time I attempt to add a photo. The only screen thats not empty is the community screen. The discover and upcoming screens just show that there's no upcoming books for my genres even though I have all of them selected. As I said above, yes! I want this app to be a thing and be a success. Can we work out the bugs though?
I like it so far. The home page with lists of books to discover is great. I like the overall aesthetic and interface. It's very promising even though it's slow right now. I also like the tags for aspects of the book but I am confused about the difference between "plot" and "story".
Can't sign in! Usually don't have to on the app, but I was logged out for some reason and says it might've been deleted. There were two notifications that I can't access. Beautiful interface and user friendly. My only complaint is a limited selection of books.
This app is messy and cluttered and lacks any kind of coherent curation or vetting. It seems like users can submit any old thing they want, and it does not contain many, many, many common books. I searched for Richard Russo and only found one of his books (he's a Pulitzer prize winning author with like 15+ books to his name). I did however find an entry for a blank lined notebook "that makes the perfect gift." 🙄
Edit (8/5/20): it's so much better now! The "upcoming" tab, as well as all the others, works. I haven't tried yet, but now hopefully I can add all my books, since it had a smaller collection when I first started using it. Thank you, BookSloth! Such a cute app! I love it, and I think it'd be a great substitute for Goodreads. The only thing I'm having an issue with is that "upcoming" tab doesnt work for me. It's just blank. However, I love the look of the app, and it's very easy to use!
Very good program. Search ALWAYS crashes my LG tablet. All my Second World War imports did not appear. Also certain authors very thin on the ground. Does the app designer like Clive Cussler? Deducting a star. Oh and no ability to import book covers
This app has a lot of potential. I love how it will organize upcoming releases in genres you've said you're interested in, and you can label what elements of a book you enjoyed in a review. The themes on the discovery page are also well done. But I'm disappointed there's no Activity page like the apple version as that was the feature I was most interested in when I heard about the app. Will that be added to the android version in the near future?
Good app that is still in progress. I would love to see more features, especially importing books from Goodreads and a yearly reading challenge. I love the way recommendations work and how you are suggested friends with a similar taste in books. It's a great start and I hope with updates this could become incredible.
It's cuter than goodreads!! However, I think I need a feature wherein I can switch to percentage of the book in the progress aside from pages because I normally read ebooks than books. Great app though!! Maybe I'll fully switch to this once it has the percentage app :)
There's so many books missing. A lot of the cover pics are blurry? You can't add dates when you've read the books, you can't order your shelves in anyway they just randomise, just not a whole lot of options here, nothing really. basically a Goodreads wannabe that needs to try a lot harder.
9/10 of every book I've tried to add isn't in the system. As long as nothing comes up it lets you suggest a book, but it becomes tedious quickly. It brings up a survey in your web browser that you answer thr title/author of the book you want added. What it should do is allow you to add books using it's ISBN, and have a moderator vetify it before it goes live. That would mean users do the leg work, and moderators just confirm it.
So many books that I wanted to list in BookSloth are unavailable. The bug also makes me annoyed as every time I click on the community section, the loading will takes longer then the app will freeze and closed itself. EVERY TIME
Looks nice, great idea but could not add any books as they were not recognised. One of them an extremely popular sports star. The recommendations didn't seem relevant to the interests i selected either. I will check back on this app in the future. Best of luck with it
This app is so cute! I love the UI and the book recommendations. One thing I noticed is how slow it loads even if my wifi is fast. Please do something about it..
Nice interface and I LOVED having an alternative to a star rating system but it has a very limited library. Also a lot of the data was wrong (i.e. books not being credited to the correct authors)
Knowing this is still a new app, it can still be improved. Limited books, and the review box doesn't state the word limit when you type. When you publish the review, the long text is cut at the end.
This app is very incomplete compared to goodreads. Cute badges does not make up for the lack of a filtered search. It is incredibly difficult to find which books are popular or acclaimed. Very disappointing.
Search doesn't work; the first book I searched for ("A Perfectly Good Man" by Patrick Gale) pulls up nothing; tried searching the author, nothing; the title on its own, nothing. Just a massive list of completely irrelevant results. How am I meant to add and review this book if search results aren't based on degree of relevance to the actual search?
Great potential! I especially like the tagging options. Still has some issues particularly in searching, like if you klick on an authors name you'd think more books by this author show up but it's other authors w partially similar names too and books by the author you were looking into may be at the very bottom of the list. When I look up 'Magpie KJ Charles' The Magpie Lord by KJ Charles is near the bottom of the list but mb my taste in books is too unusual or sth. Excited to see where this goes
Hardly any books listed yet (I feel that a book website should have a library to rival Goodreads before being launched). Pretty useless without a website. Sometimes I want to use an app, more often I prefer to use the website. When a website is added I'll rate higher.
I would love to replace Goodreads with this app because I hate it but there are so many features still missing and the app is so slow. E.g. I would like to see my own rating next to the average one when I open a book, the recommendations section is super random, can't put dates when started and finished, can't put the book in my lists in a certain order; it actually always changes randomly, sometime author and title don't match, it's kind of annoying. This app has potential, hope it reaches it.
