Boomerang from Instagram

I thought my new phone was malfunctioning but I see many have had the same issue with the videos not saving correctly... tried seeing if there was an update but there's not... what's going on with the app??? I use it for fun and my business IG .. so frustrating because I recorded a bunch of boomerangs for my business and realized it wasn't working way after I finished my product 😖

While the app has always worked on all of my Samsung Android phones, I've noticed lately, the videos that are saved can't even be recognized by my device. If I look in my gallery, is looks like a corrupted file or something. Boomerang used to have its own gallery within the app, to see what you've saved, but I don't even see an option for that anymore, very bizarre. The app is totally unusable right now!

It doesn't work and hasn't for several months. My videos are saving either all black; therefore, I can't see the video or all green with lines through the video. This was such a fun app to use. Not anymore and is taking up space on my phone, so I guess I'll delete it since there doesn't seem to be a fixed as this has been an ongoing issue for months. Yall stink.

Is anyone else having the same problem as me?! The app just all of a sudden stopped working where my videos look like green and black lines like when your screen breaks or something?! Started about 2 months ago for me..... I've had this app for a few months before that and it worked great then all of a sudden stopped. I've reached out to IG help email twice and still no reply!

I thought I was the only one getting the green screen, but apparently not. I'm guessing this must be from an update or something, but I can't even use boomerang anymore. All of my videos just turn into a green screen and I've tried everything to fix it. I tried clearing my cache, restarting my phone and reinstalling the app and nothing will work.

Lately not working - completely distorted amd unseeable videos. Usually love the app, but today I took several great Boomerangs, saved them, and when I went to look at them again, all the files were completely distorted and just like a green screen with squiggly black lines.Such a bummer as they were great as well. I looked it up & says to be a problem using the app in full screen, but I tried the fix and it wasn't being used in full screen. Really disappointing that I lost those great moments.

When I make a boomerang through the app, and save the video, it does not play back the way I recorded it. The video looks like it separates with a black and white version at the top of the screen and a colored version at the bottom. They don't look messed up when watching in the immediate playback. I've tried uninstalling and reinstalling the app. The problem doesn't occur when I make boomerangs in the Instagram app, just this one. I've emailed boomerang support with examples but the message has not been responded to.

Edit: They finally fixed the issue where it would double film the video. Works like it should now, though the camera seems more blurry than I remember it. Not a 5 star because of the quality of the video once uploaded and because it took so long to fix the problem, but all in all still a good app. (Original post)This app was great until I tried using it on my Galaxy S9. It does this double film thing. Only when you either save it or upload it. It saturates the color and moves it to make a double over the original video. Once it's fixed I'll gladly give them the review they deserve.

Fun but high failure rate. About 23% of the videos I made were corrupt, didn't save properly or something. Given it's a moment-in-time capture which is hard to recreate (esp of animals), that high a failure rate is terrible. Still a fun app to use, to make short videos. Would be cool if there's an option to capture longer videos and an option to save the video as a gif.

On newer Galaxy phones, the gifs are discolored. From what I can find, the consensus is that it's because the camera in the app is in full screen mode. However, in the settings, you can't take Boomerang out of full screen. The only way the gifs look good is if you post them in black and white. Previously, it didn't look discolored if you took the boomerang through the Instagram app, but I did it yesterday, and that's discolored too. This is a super annoying glitch that a lot of people seem to have. It'd be nice if Boomerang fixed it. I used to LOVE this app. If they fixed the discoloration issue, I would again.

When it works, it's brilliant! One of my favorite photo apps. It's like haiku: it teaches you about getting rid of extraneous stuff to sharpen an image and make a point. It's challenging and keeps you focused, which I love. Sometimes it seems to play the clip too fast and/or makes it too short to edit, which is frustrating, but that happens rarely; when it works, it's great: clever and witty and imaginative... one of the best.

As others have said, half the time the videos will not save - it appears as if they save, but the file is corrupt. This was on my Samsung galaxy s10e, which I have been using for the past year. I have in the past week upgraded to a Sony Xperia 5ii and the app won't work at all. It loads, I press the shutter button and it looks as if it is taking the video and then promptly crashes. Every single time, even after uninstalling/reinstalling or restarting the device.

App needs to zoom in. So basically I love this app so much. The quality is very clean and smooth. Makes your skin look amazing. But one problem. Just ONE, Is that the camera won't zoom in. So basically if you wanted to zoom into something. You can't. You can only move the camera. But I would rate this a five star if they could fix that problem.

Its ok, I was really hoping to free hand the placement of the pictures. Everything else is ok. Not excellent or good. Less options to choose from then expected. The option to blur out was cool but only allowed to resize the blur not pant with it. So it was tricky. Not the best but not the worst. Can tell someone has put thought into it.

Videos only save about half the time. Very frustrating. I have a pixel 4. I have to open up boomerang through Instagram in order to use it properly, which takes about 5 extra steps, which is annoying when you're trying to capture a fun moment via boomerang. I found another app that just converts your regular videos to boomerang style videos. So much easier and I don't have to worry about whether it will save or not.

Love this app, but there are compatibility issues with the One Plus 6 phone. Boomerangs from my old phone (LG G4) are still on my gallery on my new phone, and playback for these is fine. I've tried uninstalling/reinstalling but it doesn't fix it sadly. When I take a boomerang, the preview before you save it works fine and plays back in full colour, but when I save it, all the colour distorts, patches are in black and white and generally looks very bad. Please fix!

This is a great app but I gave 4 stars because in an iphone there is more time to record, but in Samsung there are literally only 2 seconds. There are also many glitches in this app which are a big problem. So please fix these problems other wise this is an excellent app 😊😊. It is also a really interesting and fun app. It would also be really nice if there were an option to save the video as a gif.

I missed a good moment due to volume button not functioning as record button. I can't imagine many people need to adjust their volume at the exact same time as taking a video. I would be happy if that could be changed, to match other social media and camera apps. Also a 1:1 aspect ratio setting to help frame your shots better for when they go onto Instagram etc. I understand the app is supposed to be streamlined and an addon for ig, but these are things I would see as standard on a video app, which is what boomerang is. Color distortion. Broken. Doesn't work. I have tried everything. Since June. I used to love boomerang, I used it often. Something happened, while shooting the short video, everything is fine, but when saved or posted the colors disappear, or it's very distorted. Sad... but its October now and still no luck. It is still broken. I use a note 8 at the moment.

Ok, so I love seeing others boomerangs, but jfc...I never try to give bad reviews, I really don't, I try to move on but it infuriates me, as there is a "secret menu" to make it longer or slow the framework basically customize to your liking...but when I do the thing to open the menu, tap with four fingers four times, it does nothing. So I can't access the menu and not only that, why be that extra, why not include it where it is accessible? That I frustrating.

I love this app when it works properly. It's heaps of fun to use, but i would say about half the time, the clip doesn't save. It's like it gets corrupted or something and instead of my video, there is just a grey screen that doesn't play anything. It's super disappointing when you've captured something great. Would love to see this fixed so I can give this app the 5 stars it should have.

Why in the hell have they not fixed the problem yet with Android or newer phones and the discoloration! There is a large market of Android users and several people have made comments about their videos being discolored. This has been going on for months and not all of my videos look good with a black and white filter, but that is the only way to make it look ok. I'm so very frustrated with the lack of work being done to fix this issue!

So disappointed with this app. On several occasions now it has not saved boomerangs properly, just a black screen. I've lost many precious memories by shooting them on Boomerang and just getting a black video. Thanks for nothing, I'd think creating an app that already uses such a flawless phone feature wouldn't be so difficult especially considering how simple the app is (no zoom, filters, emojis or video length options are available, it's just a record button) but obviously I was wrong.

It's a really fun app, but the only reason I didn't give a higher rating is because you can only film for 2 seconds... I think that this is because I have a Samsung but it would still be better if you could film for longer than 2 seconds, for me if I want to look at my other boomerangs, I have to swipe the app and go back into it to reload them all, but other than those 2 things I quite like it and it is fun and easy to use!

Seems like a cool app, but it distorts my images. The end result is black and white and double exposed. More disappointing is the lack of concern to fix the issue. After numerous searches and scrolling through the reviews this issue has been reported thoroughly with no response from the app developers (that I could find).

I Love this app But it doesn't work with my Samsung Galaxy Note phone. I went somewhere for Christmas that I can't return to with the people I went with. All the videos were glitched and black and white with spots of color. Unfortunately I didnt discovere that untill I got home. I did what it told me to fix the app on my phone but nothing has changed. Very disappointing.

I can take a boomerang shot and the preview looks awesome, but when I save it, the colors are all jacked up. Looks from other reviews like I'm not the only one and it's been a problem for quite some time. Uninstalling bc this app is a waste of phone space at this point. Too bad!

Well, this is really disappointing. I really wanted this app to work, but, after reading reviews and seeing for myself, it seems that it doesn't work on newer phones. I have a Samsung Galaxy Note8. When I go to post my boomerang, the color is all distorted. So sad. Have to uninstall it. I really hope they are able to fix it soon.
