Boss Monster

Become a boss, build a dungeon, and destroy puny heroes. The best-selling indie card game has arrived to Android!
Boss Monster is a dungeon-building card game that challenges players to become the ultimate villains: video game bosses. Thousands of players around the world have enjoyed the paper version of the game, but now Brotherwise Games has partnered with video game developer Plain Concepts, creators of Wave Engine, to bring Boss Monster from the tabletop to the digital world!

* What is Boss Monster?
*

If you've ever wanted to stomp on an upstart plumber or send your goblins and ghosts out to haunt some heroes, then Boss Monster is the game for you. Sporting retro-inspired pixel art, and paying homage to classic video games and geeky pop culture, Boss Monster immerses you in the role of the video game boss as you use Room Cards to build a dungeon which must entice worthy heroes, then slay them.

* What is the Digital Version Like? *

Digital Boss Monster is a straight conversion of the tabletop game. You'll be playing with virtual cards, but everything about the game has been designed to be as authentic as possible. Of course, the app auto-calculates damage and treasure values, letting you take advantage of rapid readout treasure counts in your and your opponents' dungeons.

* What are some of the features in Digital Boss Monster? *

- Play against up to three AI opponents in solo play.
- Challenge other human opponents online.
- Play with ALL of the bosses, rooms, and spells available in the base game ...including rare out-of-print cards!
- Explore new "digitally-enhanced" cards: four rooms, three new Bosses, and a new spell that all take advantage of the digital platform, allowing stats and treasure values to change as you play (coming in future expansions).

Thanks for your support of Boss Monster!

Unfortunately it feels like someone's fan game rather than fully fleshed game. Glitch cards, bad swipe detection, can't read cards even zoomed. I also think they missed a great opportunity to have each card represented as an animated actual room, instead of just the card. I'll just play the cards or a tabletop simulated version of it. Could have been good.

The game is very glitchy. It is odd that it only cycles through 3 of the 4 bosses in single player 1 opponent mode. I have yet to figure out the timing of the room that let's you switch the places of two rooms, although the AI has done it to me successfully. Game just crashed when I tried to cancel a cancel. Poor implementation.

Gee. G. Sep 4, 2016

The screen would shift upward to accommodate for tr home/menu buttons so I have to tap just below th graphic to activate it. This gets particularly annoying when I want to activate a room‘s ability. The wrong room gets destroyed for example, or I can't even activate the groom's ability at all because I cant figure out where to tap. please fix!! I have lost so many games because of this!

The game does a decent job of simulating the board game experience. However it's continued failure to fix bugs and hang-ups reduces overall enjoyment. The major flaw of the programming is through 5th room placement. No cards with actions can be used. Construction zone is useless, the Boss level up will cancle it, graying all of your cards, but still prompting the player to build. Boss level up gets an advanced card from a deck, never delivered if you built a laboratory. Never attempt to use logic and planning, the game cannot handle it, except the A.I. can. Your A.I. opponents will have an unfair advantage over the players every time. Furthermore as the player do not always count on being able to move your spell card to play it. The player can freeze their own rooms instead of opponents' due to the card getting hung above their dungeon. Want to look at all the heroes in town so your Princess in Peril can be effective? Well you cannot. Overall, distracting game but with these bugs, should be free.

Just buy the tabletop game. The issues with this version are pretty simple. There's no pass and play to justify buying DLC. The controls are rubbish, the cards are difficult to read even when zoomed. The AI routinely gets lucky draws, especially if you're winning. DLC is relatively pricey given how cheap the used tabletop version is.

It's great for a free app. The cards in my hand tend to be difficult to read and select. The controls are not intuitive like I am used to with other card games. The UI is a little clunky and it doesn't support scaling down to my phone screen. Like I did, this is all fine with me because the base game is free. I would gladly pay a few bucks for a smoother, more intuitive controlled, efficient game.

Looks like it could be fun but the tutorial is just "click this, click that". It doesn't really explain the game mechanics in full detail. The cards are also hard to read and understand. I suppose with several hours of trial-by-error could teach one how to play but I don't have the patience for this crap.

It's deeply flawed. The tutorial tells you to pick this card and pick that card but neglects to teach you anything. I have no idea what criteria causes heroes to enter your dungeon. I used to think it was the treasure in your rooms but I've had rounds where none of the heroes leave town. What the hell.

I own the real game. This has A LOT of work. #1. I unlocked everything, and then they removed pass and play, after the refund time expired. Bogus theft. #2. Of all the bosses 9 out of 10 times you'll get one of the originals, those odds don't make sense if the shuffle is honest. #3. There's so much going on often your strategy's can't be played out because the timer won't allow it, skewing favor of the AI.

A while back before all the updates started happening, there was the option for pass and play between two people. Now, you have to be connected with wifi and only play online. I'd be inclined to rate this game higher if pass and play came back.

The tutorial wasn't in depth enough about the specifics of the rules. I had to watch a tutorion YouTube of how to play the card game (thanks Rodney smith) I loved the game and I'll definitely be getting the card game. It was good you could play the basic version of the game but you needed in app perchances to get on line play and the expansions.

The game is amazing and deserves a quality app. But this isn't it....yet. The resolution is horrid. You'll be squinting to read the blurry letters on each card. I have the actual card game and the words are crystal clear there, so don't blame the font or "style". Another complication in reading the cards is you have to keep your finger on the card to enlarge it....meaning your finger is DIRECTLY over the card you're trying to read! It would be a lot easier to just tap the card to enlarge it and on more tao to shrink it back down. Again...it's an excellent game and is a lot of fun. It just needs two big improvements to make it a "must have" version of a beloved card game.

Multi-player wouldn't let me join a game for the first few hours after purchase. Player timeout is way too short with no option to remove it, kills the fun. Not enough time to read your cards, especially initial hand. It's difficult to drag and play cards from your hand without accidentally selecting the wrong card. You're forced to use level up ability when the 5th room is played, and it cancels any pending played room effects. The hard copy game is far more enjoyable.

Great implementation of the card game! I have spent about 4 hours playing this so far and I've experienced zero glitches on my Samsung Tab A w/ S Pen. The controls are finicky, but they work and just take getting used to. In all I'm very happy to have this app and I paid for the full version after trying it out. Now if only there were more players online...

Fun game, but the interface, the method of dropping cards and activating them, the lack of clarity as to which cards you're keeping and which you're discarding, and etc, causes mistakes that lose matches. Too many lost matches due to the interface, not fun anymore. Uninstalling.

Dia. L. Jul 3, 2018

The original board game is one of my all-time favourites. I was relieved that this Android version was of relatively high quality. My only criticism is card selection can be quite difficult as it uses a dragging method and it's easy to select the wrong card. Also the music isn't too catchy so it soon gets repetitive in my opinion, it could be alot better. But overall I'm quite satisfied with this port.

Latest update broke the game. i cannot get past the Tap To Start screen. it was working before the latest update....please fix.

A. G. u. Jul 23, 2017

different gameplay then the real card game, but thats okay. Some bugs and a bit overpriced. I would probably buy it if I can configure gameplay options and create own decks of cards.

Car. H. Aug 5, 2016

I would love there to be a pass and play option for this app. I like playing with my friends and don't want them to have to buy the app to play with me.

Ken. Sep 16, 2016

The game starts, loads, and immediately crashes. I have tried reinstalling the game and that didn't work. Hopefully this gets fixed soon, I want to play the game.

Nic. H. May 9, 2018

So here is the issue, whenever I go to do multiplayer it tells me "No Internet Connection". I've tried with 4G, Wi-Fi, and everything inbetween. I cant get the game to let me play multiplayer on any device I own

Dar. D. Mar 1, 2017

Don't know how to rate this after the initial rating since it won't work. Not compatible with newest Android version and will not load on my tablet. Fix the bugs and we might try it again.

A. G. u. Jun 1, 2016

I love this game. Ive played it in real life its sooo good skowhen i saw this i got really excited. So i installed it and then i had to leave but i forgot my tablet! and it was on. And when i came back after two days it was STILL LOADING please fix

Aid. O. Oct 13, 2016

As many have noted below, even with the full game purchased when ever I try to load multiplayer it says no Internet connection and I cannot play online.

Mat. T. Dec 11, 2016

Would rate 5 but bought full version and still still no internet connection with Wi-Fi and cellular data on. Still crashes on start up.

Tho. L. Sep 18, 2016

The free version of the game limits you to just one on one against the computer, as far as I can tell, but it also seems to limit you to only 3 boss monsters - Draculord, Cerebellus, and Cleopatra - while only allowing you to fight against King Croak.

Cel. L. Aug 13, 2016

No one online to play. Seriously, not one single, solitary person. And I've played 10 games and have not even come close to winning. I never should have invested money on this and neither should you.
