BotSync SSH SFTP

BotSync periodically synchronizes files with a remote SSH SFTP server, over the wifi or cell network. As new files/directories are created, BotSync will recursively download them to the phone, or upload them to the server (like rsync). Use it to transfer new content securely, wirelessly, and automatically.
Why pay for Dropbox when you can run your own private cloud? BotSync works with opensshd
- no inefficient, expensive, or potentially-insecure server SW required.

BotSync transfers about 4X faster than AndFTP SFTP.

As mentioned by someone else it would be nice to use ssh keys instead of a password. Have also changed my mind, and I'd prefer something where I can ask my tablet to either push or pull and not be setup to run constantly. Otherwise this is working great over sftp.

The application is simple, reliable and fast. It worked fine in my Nexus S running Android 4.0.1. However, it now longer works after I moved to Galaxy Nexus. There's something different on this phone that breaks both rsync and this application. On the other hand, ConnectBot connects fine to my server.

the basic idea is really cool and i like it. but i believe support for "delete" option would be nice, so one can do a real sync then. bi-directional sync would be nice - but i believe this is really difficult part. the homepage of this project is full of important information: FAQ and roadmap. looking forward to newer versions.

It kept re-uploading backuped files, saying "local file is newer" which is not true. Otherwise it's a good app, but if you want to backup more than one folders in you phone you have to re-configure the app which is not very convenient

For a long time I would leave this running on a cycle to update php and js on a devel server while I edited files and tested it. The problem is that when a file is shortened it leaves the tail of the file on the server, breaking the code file. Also, it does not delete files on the server. Basically, it needs some options or a way to edit the rsync command line parameters. This has become a major problem, and I have switched to using a different app for rsync to the remote server.

I'm using for a day. It works well on SFTP sync. I moved to this app after the FolderSync app stopped syncing over SFTP. Although the most missing thing for me is the schedule and the filter options. Maybe making it a Tasker plugin can add the schedule feature at least. Thanks for the great effort! I'll keep using it over the FolderSync.

Good beginning, but: No sync in both directions. When uploading, the file date is not that of the original file, but it is current time. No options for ignoring existing files or files with same size, or to ignore date. But I hope this program it will become better.

Great and straightforward app. It would be perfect if it had support for multiple folders rather than only one as of now. Also it would be useful to have the ability to set activity in the background (it currently stops as the screen turns off).

Does what it says: rsync over WiFi, at roughly 500-700 Kb/s. Very easy to set up but lacks scalability (multiple configurations would be great). Has become my default sync tool for android. Thanks for the great work!

Great app, does what I need it to do. Some more options would be great. Remove deleted files on server like rsync maybe some schedule options, when connected via wifi sync etc. But for a free app it is fantastic, good job many thanks.

If you have an SSH enabled VPS, this app is defenitly the best availlable options, to backup your mobilephone data: - No funky permission need. - BSD licensed - SUPER easy set-up. - No commercials. 4 stars because it's so perfect i want to encourage the devs to become even more perfect! :D <3

I have a home server running Linux on it. I was looking for a way to sync my pictures from my Android phone to my file server without having to do any cloud sync with something like Dropbox. This works great to upload my pictures. I did not want it to move the pictures, I simply wanted to sync them so they existed on my phone still (I'll manage those manually if I want to delete) while mirroring them on my server as well. Speeds were also pretty decent. I was getting about 700 KB/s, which I find fantastic compared to another app I recently tried, which did 40 KB/s on a good day. It's a simple no-frills app that does exactly what I need it to. My search is over, finally.

You would think, since Android is based on Linux, that the core of common Linux tools would be natively available. This app gives you handy, secure, easy access to your files while on the road. Many thanks for a great app!

It works as said in the description. So 5 star for that. However it can be made much user friendly. 1. Its difficult to input directories manually, it will be great to have directory selector. Also as other users have said, it will be great to have delete files if needed. 2. It would great to save frequently used configs. e.g. one for syncing photos, 1 for music etc. Also I think speed is bit less (around 600kbps). I did scp it worked in Mbps. Though this is not much of a concern to me. Hope to see more features in coming update . (p.s. I use my desktop to bulk rename at edit ID3 tags, add album cover etc. and sync it back to my aandroid)

A program you can trust that will synchronize all your files. Has one way synchronization either up or down, but not both. If you need that try foldersync from tacit developers. Cheap and reliable

Needs an option for bidirectional syncing, multiple folders and ssh profiles and possibly Tasker integration. UI could have looked better. Fails with non-standard characters. Other than those , it's perfect.

Agree with comments from others about features wanted, but this does exactly what I need. Was getting frustrated with other apps all wanting me to sync using some cloud service... I don't want that...all I need is a light weight app to sync with my own Linux box. Almost gave up and started writing my own app until I found this one. Great work!

I use it selectively to sync emulator data to and from my computer. Would recommend it to anyone who needs to transfer data from static directories constantly.

A. G. u. Nov 13, 2011

Would be a 5-star if would not have to go trough all file every time you sync. Time consuming.

This app has helped simplify the transfer of images from phone to wireless external hard drive for me...I wish it had an option to delete the original after the file transfer was successful.

A. G. u. Mar 21, 2012

Nice but its missing a crucial feature. Also it would be nice if it supported more than one directory pair.

A. G. u. Nov 2, 2011

It works well until it encounters a file with a question mark in the file name. This causes it to stop processing.

A. G. u. Dec 24, 2011

Every sync'd song is exactly 98,304 bytes. Constantly re-syncs because of this but never gets more if the file. Multiple configurations would be great!

A. G. u. Dec 12, 2011

Jaw droppingly effective, with a straightforward interface that makes up for its looks with how well it works. Better than the pay apps.

A. G. u. Feb 11, 2012

There are no settings page. If included would be great. Such as about rsync, which will give options for deletions and other features.

Pet. B. Jun 24, 2013

Great app but I would really like scp fallback as my server doesn't support sftp. I hope you can provide an update with this feature. Thank you.

A. G. u. Dec 26, 2011

Schedule is great. Rsync partial / mirror / sync / multiple configurations would be great. This way we have to backup everything w/ no exclusions

A. G. u. Aug 6, 2012

Would be nice to have several configurations and easy switching among them. Aside from that, it does the job I wanted done, moving files between my Nexus and my Linux desktop without detouring through the Cloud, and using standard SSH server software on the Linux side. I like that this does not add a file server to the Android system (that might be left running when I didn't expect it to be).

A. G. u. Apr 2, 2012

Currently configuration is limited to a single host, and either upload or download. The roadmap has multiple targets: that will add a star for me, and other planned enhancements are gravy.

A. G. u. Dec 30, 2011

It works to some extent. It would be nice to: sync in both directions or at least delete the files when they are removed from the server (or have an option to do so), have ssh keys support, and be open source. I created another user since I'm definitely not using a real password in ths app, and I limited this user to only using sftp.
