Amazing sound when it works. I have the bar, bass and 2 flex. I can not even remember the number of times I have had to factory reset + plus pull the power cabel out of all equipment and then try to set it up all again. Once set up it may work for a few days in a row at most and then you have to repeat the same procedure again. As a software engineer I can not fathom how it can be this screwed up.

Very basic and slow app, it crashes very often and you need to "kill" it and reopen every time you want to do something. This is not what I expected when i bought my Formation Audio and my two Flex. I was also told from the seller that the upgrade would come very soon together with Alexa skill. I've been asked the support and no news about it. Hopefully the acquisition from Sound United will bring some fresh functionality to it...anyway, they should be quick if they don't want to lose all B&W customers.

Aug 2021: I finally got rid of it in May 2021! Bye BW Formation! Previous note: The separated bass/treble settings are slow in responding. Worst case they are NOT responding at all and i have to restart the speakers every time. The apps is not stable and it takes time to connect to the speakers. If there's no further improvement, I will sell them and say bye to Bowers FOREVER. The lack of software features/stability is extremely disappointing. Good hardware but poor software, what for?

update - 5/19 The performance is better, the app updates are handy and I'm learning it better and better. I so want to give this 5 stars, the sound quality is truly amazing and b & w is on it with updates to the app. I have noticed an issue with Apple TV, when you select airplay to the zone, it works beautifully, then drops all audio for up to 40 sec or so then resumes or you have to enable the zone again. It does this about every 15 min. Maybe time for a SW update for the speaker system.

I have been owning a formation wedge for one year and I could say I haven't had major connectivity issues until two days ago when I couldn't connect with FW. I can see it with my bluetooth connection via my s20+ but not like an audio device. I can find it via bluetooth only as an "other devices" and I can't connect. The B&W never worked fluidly, but worked. At the moment, the B&W doesn't see my Formation Wedge at all.

The last review was spot on, the App is basically a non-app and in fact the Formation products actually require two apps in conjunction (set up / music respectively) to even attempt to operate which is surely a joke. I have just received a Flex speaker and wasted hours with these clunky apps both of which drop Bluetooth and WiFi preset with uninstall/reinstall being the only solution to endless no connection messages. I thought Sonos was bad but this really takes the biscuit at this price point.

Outstanding sound. I've been a B&W fan for years, through generations of Diamond speakers. With Formation I hoped to combine exceptional sound with modern wireless control. Across all speakers in the Formation line (Duo, Bar, Wedge, Flex, Bass) the design, build quality and sound are outstanding. Prior app/firmware releases were buggy and frustrating, but the latest (1.4 app, 2.0 firmware) resolved these issues. Thank you!

I own multiple B&W Formation Wedges, Bass, and Flex speakers throughout my home. While the speaker are phenomenal, the app is so far below the quality of B&W equipment it makes me question what the heck was going on when they decided to release an app full of bugs that is so user unfriendly and also requires Roon AND Tide apps for a total of three apps to get lossless quality sound and better. There are also issues getting the Formation Bass paired with Wedges without physical factory resets.

Terrible app. Rubbish connectivity to get the speaker setup. Been trying to connect 2 formation flex speakers for ages but only managed to connect via an ethernet cable, once disconnected it stopped working and won't reconnect unless I plug the cable back in. I needed to use an iPhone to connect successfully to then use my android phone! Horrible experience so far. Comments developers are working on the app but no dates or clarity given! Update needed quickly with android functionality!

Awful app. Won't let me use Alexa properly. App will not load properly for a few minutes then it shows my rooms. Looses connection to devices. Not intuitive. Why would they put access to playing music in "help" section through Spotify and Alexa apps? I will most likely return the speakers because of this app. I expect more from B&W. App version says 1.3 but the installed version says 1.7...which is it? There's even typos in the setup process "Your" instead of "You". Typos = lazy product.

New update does not give option to turn up volume speakers are connected and still will not pick up formation. Before they would connect as soon as app was opened very good sounding speaker not so much the app and have to get up every time to adjust volume very annoying I think they should have worked out bugs before putting out very disappointed!

Wonderful sound and looks. Still waiting for an app upgrade due to previous reviews and my own similar experiences with the app. I try not to use it. Got a Formation Sound, Duo and Wedge. A tip is to name Formation Sound unite and e.g the Duo with the same name so you don't have the sound delay and source to 'sound unit' automaticly plays through speakers. Could not find this in the manual. App update please

Magnolia just installed this at my house and it did not work. I have existing wired B&W speakers, which sound great, however my FM receiver gave out after 20 years. Magnolia suggested this B&W formation audio solution using an app for the radio streaming. I do not use Apple. I use all android products. I had to access the speakers through bluetooth. Also, none of the radio apps supported by this application are android. The radio applications stopped working, cut in and out. It just does not work with android so they are coming to take it out.

I have spent about 90 min and with many attempts in trying to connect the speaker to my phone without any success The last speaker (not bowers) that I had was easy to connect via blue tooth without any app. Looks like I now have to take it back to the store to assist.The just the journey to & fro is likely to take another 90 min.

App was already bad, but somehow you were able to make it worse! Forced to create an account just to control volume. "Learn remote" works at times, but mostly not. Please stick to making hardware until you get someone who knows what they are doing with software! This is absolutely terrible.

If you are an Android user this product is not for you! I have a Android phone and the A7 wireless Music system speaker from B & W and I can neither see it as a Bluetooth device nor can I set up the WiFi of the A7 because I can't connect to it. It doesn't show with sportify connect too. Also the instructions are really unhelpful. All they tell you is to plug in your device and if you've already done that to plug it in again. A real waste of time, energy and money if you don't have apple...

I have the formation bass and sound bar which are amazing. However this app is awful. It constantly drops connection via Bluetooth and won't connect to alexa either on the alexa app, by asking alexa or trying to connect alexa via Bluetooth . Bluetooth is spotty at best from my phone. Never can be found and have a Galaxy 20S. Constantly having to Uninstall app, learn the skill on app and reset the speakers. Bluetooth connections will last a day after that. Alexa still never connects.

This app can not keep bas and treble settings up. As B&W Team suggested, I did reinstalled this app and factory reset Wedge. It helped only for a moment. Currently, settings won't stay, I'm not even able to change them while playing music. Update: my Formation speaker will be sold on auction due to above failure. I'm so dissatisfied with B&W.

Revised - I have the Formation Duo and it does not work with Alexa properly. I just added the Wedge and similar issue occurs following the recent outage at BW. I live in the US. The speakers sound great but it does not work properly with connectivity with Alexa. For the price of these speakers, it's a shame that B&W would sell them with very bad network and App problems. I have worked with your support folks for the last 2 weeks and the problem is still there. Sigh...

Everytime i open the app & it fails to find my formation wedge after I've done setup. I need to turn the power off & on again several times to find the wedge from the app. The equalizer setting always switch back to default automatically. (Such A Disappointment!!)

Worse app of all. You can basically do nothing with it. All settings keep changing. Speakers keep dropping and have to restart whole system over and over again. Would expect more for the money you are spending. Contemplate to send whole system back.

Great speakers but poor app. I have the Formation Duo, great sound quality but I can't stream high resolution music without spending more cash on Roon and the required hardware, otherwise it is Bluetooth or Spotify Connect, neither of which allow me to get the maximum sound quality from the speakers. Shame, the speakers need a better app.

Apparently having the same issues as everyone else. I have the soundbar and the subwoofer that were recognized at one point on the app and functioned properly, however after moving to another house and setting everything up, only the subwoofer is recognized. I submitted my issues through the B&W website and received a response, however after replying to the questions from the technical rep 2 weeks ago, I received no response back. Definitely dissatisfied with the app and B&W customer service.
