EDIT: I believe my previous review was a little too critical. When I take Brightmind and Shinzen's approach to meditation in totality, it is excellent to mindfulness practice and it has helped me immensely. However, I still believe the app interface could be improved along with a greater variety of narrators. The unified mindfulness approach, taught here, is IMO superior to other mindfulness based apps and the team does well to compete with heavily monotised competitors.

I really liked studying through the course with Shinzen. I've been enjoying these meditations for quite a while now. I find these to be the best mental 'workouts' when I really want to put some time into getting better at mindfulness through practicing meditation and developing awareness 'techniques'. I've used many meditation apps over the years, but I must admit, this one is really special! Every session is a brand new experience. I can't say enough good things about this app. I have been meditating for a few years and come to it as an atheist.I started out with headspace and then used ten percent happier. Both helped. But brightmind stands out because it offers very clear guidances and techniques that have a level of specificity i had not experienced before. Centered around concentration, clarity and equanimity, and often focused on visual, auditory and body space, the instructions have been easier to carry into life.

The meditation guidance is the best I've experienced, but the sessions do not always load correctly and the support is very slow. I've been waiting 4 days for a response to my progress being fully wiped out. These are fixable issues and the underlying teaching is great.

I have the trial and the app is looking good. However, in order to explore all the content, I'm required to buy an annual subscription. It's too much to ask. If I could buy a month, I would. Then I would have a much better idea of what the app has to offer. So, either all the content should be unlocked for a few days, or a monthly subscription should be available. It also worries me a bit that the app hasn't been updated in 6 months.

So far so good. This is a very useful app. I am only on day 8 so will update this but I really like it. There are lots of options for customising the length of each setting which you choose daily before each one starts. There are lots of meditation apps but this one was recommended. You can try free for a week and then it's an annual fee. expensive and maybe for some but apparently they are refunding the first year during covid 19 pandemic. I'm paying for mine. Worth it

I am really really impressed with this company. They offered a free year prescription for covid when quarantine started and I forgot to ask for a refund for a month. They easily refunded me and cancelled the auto renew which some companies wouldn't do to be sneaky and get your money. The app is great, very impressed with all the options. You guys rock.

This is a new app so this is just a preliminary review, but I've been using it for four days now and I'm enjoying it. I've read Shinzen Young's The Science of Enlightenment so I was pretty sure I would like the style of instruction. I accidentally ended up doing the second day's meditation twice, not sure if that was my oops or a bug.

I dislike some things about V3. The least important one is its design. The ones that annoy me most are: (1) the change of "equanimity" to "balance", which seems like a way to dumb down a very precise term, but I can kinda live with that, however (2) there seems to have been an erasure of Shinzen Young, and the fact that the app's approach to mindfulness started with the framework developed by years of Shinzen's work. V3 gave me the vibe of being a Toby ego-trip more than anything else. Very sad.

*sep. 14: current app version as of today says V1.0. (28)? What Android versions are supported with Brightmind? I love the meditations and idea of this, but was disappointed after buying the lifetime membership... Can't tell if new meditations are being added - it's starting to feel like I'm almost finished them, concerning for less than a year in with "lifetime" access. Needs update to be able to see clearly what you've done and haven't without tapping through programs. Hope updates are coming, I've been waiting...!

I loved the first few sessions but by the time I got to around day 15 (SHF IN) I found the instructions too complicated, difficult and cerebral. Not sure I'll finish out my 3-month trial. My intuition tells me that meditation doesn't need to be this complicated..

I've tried a variety of meditation apps, and Brightmind is the first I've clicked with. I like the down-to-earth approach: -- I'm not looking for a lot of gimmicks, just trying to learn to meditate. And unlike other apps, I feel like I'm actually learning how to meditate, not just learning how to follow along with an app.

I loved the free trial even if I wasn't able to do it every day but I can't afford the subscription. Please waive the 1st year subscription for me if possible. I found it helped me face my day better as a stay at home mom with two VERY energetic kids who say apparently can't get enough of me. 😬

Very good meditations. Outrageously expensive. For $100 each year, the price of this program, you can watch Netflix 7/24. $ 0,99 a month or $ 10 a your would be a reasonable price. Excessive profit is not Buddhist.
