This would be a 4 or 5 star review, but fullscreen ads popping up all the time while I'm browsing is very irritating. Banner ads? Fine. But fullscreen ads that interrupt your research for several seconds at a time is a middle finger to users. Then you say "but we wont flip you off anymore if you buy the full version"? Pff. I was going to buy the full app because I love Bulbapedia and wanted the database, but I'm not supporting devs who do this to their free users. I'll stick to the site, thanks.
It's a little hard to reach the top menu on my Galaxy S10, but otherwise I enjoy using this app! Super helpful! I've been referencing the online version for years, and this is even better! I especially like the link preview and saving collections of articles! Oh - and the ad covers up the menu at the bottom, making it difficult to reach those handy lists.
I really do enjoy this app, but it freezes up a lot and whenever I'm trying to look through the pokédex list it, it'll end up freezing while I'm trying to scroll through it. Or just end up freezing while it's in the middle of loading so end up having to constantly close and re-open it about 10 times or more, and even then it continues to freeze. Again, I absolutely adore this app, it just needs to stop freezing so much
Fantastic UI, wonderful offline viewing capabilities, and overall a complete replacement for the desktop experience (granted you're not an editor). The ability to save pages for quick access is also a nice touch. The only reason I didn't give it 5 stars is that sometimes search results or pages won't load, even though my internet connection was ok. I either had to force close the app or delete the cache/storage to fix the problem. I still recommend it to anyone who needs Pokémon info on the go.
The ads aren't intrusive but if you want to remove the ads and help support the folks that bring this fantastic app to us, the players, it's $4.99 per year or a one time payment of $6.99. I paid the six bucks. You can also download everything for offline purposes if you decide to pay for the app. Otherwise, everything is entirely free to use. Wonderful app and wonderful developers. Kudos!
I was excited that there was an ad-free and offline version of the app. I paid for it and downloaded the database for offline. It was very underwhelming. Many pages fail to load. The last update (5 months ago) said bug fixes were coming for offline mode. I hope they do end up releasing these fixes. If I had done a bit more research, I likely would not have spent money on the ad-free version.
Sometimes the app crashes incessantly, no matter how many times it's reopened. Otherwise it works very well, and there are a few features that makes it preferrable to the mobile browser version. There are still minor flaws in user interface such as how the tabs page functions. I also understand that you need some money from advertisers, but I also wish the adverts were integrated in a less obnoxious way.
The app has potential and is useful, but it's flawed. I paid to have the ads removed, which also enables offline use if you choose to download the whole app. I chose not to download the whole app cause it would be a sizable download. You can have reading lists which they say are readable offline. Except they aren't. Even though I have several lists, I can't read anything on any of the lists. Sometimes the loading takes longer than normal and the only way to fix it is to close the restart the app
The app is fast, and smooth. The layout could use some work as some things are poorly aligned, but at least I get the information. Paid for the lifetime of no ads & offline data, which requires a restart of the app before it takes effect - I thought I paid for nothing until that (haha), but ultimately it removed ads. Worth it in my opinion. Nice having all of Bulbapedia at my fingertips anywhere anytime.
This app is like having a browser on quick-launch, it's just perfect to look up data on particular Pokémon as you play the game without long loading times or messy searches. It even remembers you navigation through the app after you close it, so you can quickly return to whatever you need. If there's one thing that's missing, it'd be a dark mode, but that's it. Everything else is here.
The go-to app for Pokémon info! Only issue, in my opinion, is that there's so much extra stuff before the data I want to see (where to find in games, learnset, type strengths and weaknesses). I wish there was a setting to hide all the sections on a Pokémon data page that I know I will never want to see so I wouldn't have to go into the side menu every time to skip past most of the way down the page
Ads are intentionally annoying. A few seconds after an ad starts playing, there appears a close button at the top left corner. If you click that, it takes you to the Play Store page of whatever is being advertised. Then you close that, and the close button in the ad moves to the top right corner. Genius. It's incredible that there are actual people who think such shenanigans will get people to try the product being advertised. No. If there was any chance of people trying it, now there is none.
It's a really nice app instead of having to open a web browser to check stats of a pokemon. On the other hand whenever I am trying to load an article it says, "article can not be loaded offline." Even though I'm connected to internet, or even on data, nothing seems to fix this problem. I've downloaded it over and over again and still no fix. Back to the browser I guess for the time being while they try and fix this bug.
Really useful, especially if you're into the video games and need to look up stats, learnsets, etc. The ad version is a little annoying/buggy (because video ads are always annoying and buggy), but the paid version works great and is totally worth it. You can also download for offline viewing, which is awesome for me because I play a lot of Pokemon when I travel. The price is reasonable; remember they update everytime there's a new game/TV show/TCG set... it's a lot of work. Thanks Bulbapedia!
The layout can be a bit clunky to navigate at first, but once you get used to the way the app works, it's a great little reference tool! I play pokemon with a lot of strategy in mind, so being able to look up stats and evolutions, and move pools, ect, makes it a lot easier to plan my journey! Thanks Bulbagarden!
Incredibly informative, it seems almost no Pokémon related topic was left out. Being able to have multiple pages up at once is also very nice. My only complaint is that the app itself is a little slow and tends to stop or freeze, not to the point where it renders the app unusable, but definitely enough to be annoying.
Useful and reliable, but a little unstable. Accesses Bulbapedia database well; however, it often crashes and immediately reloads itself to the opening screen, which can prove annoying when researching. In fact, the prompt to rate this app only appeared on the second crash-reload when I attempted to use the app today. If this bug was resolved, this would truly be a great app for Trainers of any generation.
App is fantastic. Adverts can be a bit frustrating but manageable. However occasionally a pop up ad will appear that blocks the in-app menu, meaning I cannot jump to specific sections of an article and that can be improved. No matter how many times I close that ad and say it blocks content it keeps coming back.
Horrible with the constant ads! So obnoxious! Constant ads at the bottom and interrupting video ads at random moments that you can't skip and have to close out the app. The layout is also no more convenient than the website and takes too long to load. Just use the site. This app is just a worst version of the site with more ads and video ads.
Fantastic app. I've been getting back into Poke'mon heavily recently, so it's awesome to have a mobile version of the best Poke'wiki, if only for a UI that's vastly superior to the browser version. The ability to download the entire wiki or even just certain parts is more useful than you might think. The $10 CAD I spent for the feature, as well as to remove ads, was well worth it. Seriously guys, thanks a million!
First off, its chalk full of adds. Very annoying. I use the webpage a lot, and figured the app would be usefull. Unfortunately, the UI is a big clunky and difficult to use, and the overall feel of the app isn't great. If it had the same feel as their website, it would be great. The only plus is, if you're willing to fork over 7 bucks you can get offline access, which I don't think is worth it.
Even with Pro, still only really useful with a internet connection. I picked up Pro about a day or two after i started using the App due to sporadic internet connection. After getting Pro and downloading the 200 or so Megabytes of Information for it. I still have incomplete pages when trying to use it. I have been using the Reading List Options to help mitigate it but it has not worked well. Will revise when Offline fixes that are promised in Update Notes 1/4/2019 occur if they help.
Occasionally crashes or has connectivity issues, along with some graphical errors, but still very useful for getting what I want. Unskippable ads are a pain but that's the price one pays if they don't want to purchase the premium version. I understand the devs have to eat.
The app itself is overall okay, but it is plagued by annoying ads that appear as an overlay on articles. I get the need for ads, but these are extremely intrusive, and some are actually safety concerns as they seem very scammy and you sometimes end up accidentally clicking on them because they appear slightly after the article has finished loading. This issue makes the app unusable for me.
Free with option to pay a premium for ad free version. The free version loaded pretty slow, so I opted to pay the premium to see how that affected things. It loaded very quickly, even quicker than pulling up the website on Chrome. Definitely consider throwing the devs a bit of cash, as it is a great adaptation of the wiki. You can even have tabs in the app for different pages!
11/2/21 update: Still a good app, but some pages do not display correctly, such as the Catch Rate page. Pages that have a formula do not show the formula properly: the code for the formula is shown instead of the formula itself. The page shows fine in a browser. No reply when contacted about this problem. Original review: This is an amazing app. Fast, multiple tabs, favorites, easily navigable and searchable, extensive content. Paid version for no ads—Yay! Not sure what could make it better.
Overall, this app works exactly as expected. It's really handy having everything I need to know about pokémon in my pocket, since I do a lot of breeding and special training. My only complaint is the ads. The ones in the article aren't as bad, but sometimes one will come up before it lets you view an article, and these tend to have two "X" buttons to close them to read what you want to read.
Ive been using this app for years on all my phones. I just recently decided to pay the extra money to go ad free. While it gets rid of the pop up ads it doesnt get rid of the ads at the bottom of the screen which I was kind of hoping for as well. Another complaint I have is that for the Galaxy S10e the ui is not optimized. The controls of the app overlap with the notification shade and I find myself accidentally pulling it down when I dont mean too. Optomize for S10 line and it would be 5 star.
I love this app, but it would be better if it included past information in more places. For example: on desktop if a move has changed power, the current power will be underlined and you can hover over it to see its changes. The app lacks a similar function, so you have to scroll down check its effect/history. A minor gripe in an otherwise great app.
