ButterflyMX

ButterflyMX allows you to open and manage doors from your smartphone. Once our smart intercom has been installed at your property, downloading this app will provide you with features such as video calling, virtual keys, delivery PINs, elevator controls, and much more - all designed to make building access easy for you and your guests. What's more, all door entries are recorded with a date- and time-stamped photo available for review in both the mobile app and on the property management dashboard.

We've designed our software and hardware to be secure, convenient, and affordable. If you would like to learn how ButterflyMX can transform your building, visit: www.butterflymx.com

Notifications sometimes don't come in at all or only on a single device (never the same one). Numerical pin does not always work, nor do the access keys. If I need to set up an access key for a delivery, it only sets up a QR code, which I can't provide to various delivery services. We have had this system in our building less than a year and during that time, we went months where the app simply stopped opening one of the gates, but showed it opening in-app.

Very intuitive, easy to use, and allows a great deal of flexibility for granting building access. My only request is that they add a feature where it can generate building access codes that YOU can see/share, as opposed to providing the person's contact info to the app, which then sends out the code(s). I have groceries delivered to my house, but because I don't know the delivery driver's contact info, I can't generate a temporary building access code for the delivery window.

Horrid! Has never once notified me of having a package - even though I have had several delivered to me. Admittance to the package rooms is sporadic at best - twice (of 3 times) management has had to come and let me in. Would recommend avoiding this like the plague if possible.

If I could I would give it no star's. I moved in November. It has worked less than it's worked. The company is incompetent. If they would service there product it might actually be good. I have to go let people in. It's just a matter of time before I fall and get hurt. I am handicapped and have balance issues.

Terrible all around. The door unit breaks constantly, no surprise when you're bolting what is essentially a low end tablet to a door with the barest housing and no weatherproofing. The app simply doesn't work most of the time. Notifications will come sometimes minutes later, if it all. Most times a delivery driver will just call me wondering why the intercom isn't working and I have to just go down to let them in. This whole system is a case of creating solutions to problems that don't exist. They go around doing demos for managers that look great, obviously they're scripted demos, then it gets installed in place of your perfectly fine intercom that had no issues, your guests are now filmed without their consent when it actually works, and the rest of the time it just doesn't. Absolutely useless product sustained by marketing hype that shouldn't exist. Who looks at this door unit and doesn't immediately think of what happens when the weather is anything but sunny and dry, or what happens when kids feel like blowing off steam. Do not buy, resist your building switching if they try.

Great app! I always have my phone but not always my keys so it's handy to be able to open the door with my phone. If I have friends coming over to stay I can assign a virtual key for them to use during their stay. Thumbs up! The only improvement I would like to see is the ability to see live video and speak with the person buzzing at the door. That would make this app unstoppable.

Ok I found the features I previously noted on my comments and they need to be the default settings in my opinion to have the system connected to your devices butterfly app rather than calling the user. You should include a short video on the basic options along with a cheat sheet on basic operations

Website forces you to download the app. Unacceptable. Please just give us a reasonable web experience. I don't need an app for something I use once every three months.

I have been delivering to properties all over eastern Massachusetts for a few years now and I have never delivered to a building with this service whose property management can actually provide an access PIN, nor have any of the other drivers I've talked to been able to get one either. It seems the system is completely useless if the resident isn't able to answer the phone

Our system has been down for 5 days. I don't understand why it's still not fixed. The entire screen is black. I sometimes work from home and have left meetings to go open the door, but when I'm at the office I can't do anything if a delivery person calls my cell. I'm also out of town next week and have sent a virtual key to my catsitter. But since the system isn't working, I'm now forced to think of something else. Completely unacceptable that we have been dealing with this for multiple days.

Absolutely do not purchase one of these systems. Ours frequently breaks and they take over a week to fix it every time. We needed a new replacement unit and it's been over a month since the order was placed. In that time, we have had no buzzer system at all. The features may seem nice, but the support down the road is awful.

I live in harlem, nyc & they're sketchy people on the street at all hours of the day. So many times this app has failed when I'm hurrying to get into my home for fear of someone running up on me. Thankfully, this has never happened & i pray it never does. From a safety stance, the door should open when i swipe to do so. So many, many times it tells me to wait so i have to fiddle with keys or entering a code. NOT COOL. Yes the app is up to date, and internet is present

No integration with Google Home or Home Assistant. Very disappointed my building switched to an outdated system like this one.

Jac. M. May 1, 2022

I just purchased two new computers this month. Now, I get a note telling me that my equipment is out of date and will not work with the new Butterfly App. I've lived here a long time. This is the worst system ever. It was chosen by the trophy kids, who else? With so many negative reviews, you could never qualify for a 4.8 rating. More like a 2.9.

Great functionality. The ability to add a widget to the Android home screen for easy door opening is nice.

Car. L. Mar 13, 2022

With last update app doesn't work. Can't open with swipe or sending key. No longer activities and visitors can be seen. This has been an ongoing issue.

Kar. Y. Feb 4, 2022

Useless and expensive. Completely stripped of features in most recent update. Viewing Activity was removed and live view in widget does not work. Still only swipe to unlock instead of a click. Massive disappointment. Deserves 0 stars for this failure to provide functionality.

Garbage. Can't set a pin for delivery ppl to use. Don't always get notifications.

Tam. H. Feb 7, 2022

App has been working great. However, I have Galaxy Flip 3 now and experience a major issue. When the phone is folded, I don't get notification of the call and it automatically declined my visitors.

Cha. D. Apr 20, 2022

I love this app, the only issue I have is when internet is down you can't use your pin or app to get in, so if you don't have your fob on you, you have to wait for someone to open the door. A manual key would be perfect for those instances.

It's been down since before Christmas at 3 of the 5 buildings in our development (can't connect to Wifi). No one seems to really care to fix the issue.

Awesome app for entry into a secure building with a Smartphone...

This app/service will make you miserable. Incredibly slow way to open your door. It requires you to find the app, open it, wait several seconds until it connects, and then finally unlock. This would be bearable if it were reliable. Often times nothing happens. Better off using your key/keycode. Also the video call feature freezes the video almost all the time. Good luck identifying who wants to enter. Worst of all, I've missed dozens of requests to enter. No notification, no calls, nothing.

Hardware at front door becomes unusably slow on a regular basis. It took minutes to scroll, select my name, and try to make a call. The call never connected and I gave up and used my key to get in. This has happened at least 3 times in the past few months. The app used to pop up when the front door "called." Now it just waits a really long time, and then I get a phone call from a non-local number. Half the time that hangs up when I try to answer it, but when it does connect I hear a badly distorted version of whatever I say, and an inaudibly low volume of what anyone is saying on the intercom. I have to open the app and use that to open the door. That works maybe half the time, and often makes no noise to indicate to the person outside that the door has been unlocked. This is a terrible, barely usable system made worse by bad software. The building management seems to think it's brilliant because they got a nice demo and never have to use it.

Very slow when it does work Update 13.1.20 . I couldnt access the help function in the app because the app wouldnt connect. I just reinstalled everything and registered for a new account which seems to have temporarily fixed that issue. Might want to add a number to call if the app doesn't work. As for the slowness, I was referring to the input device at the front door, it take 3 - 5 seconds on a good day to register the keys being pressed. I have video if needed, let me know where to send it

Constantly has new issues that render it useless. The most recent (starting today) is that it says that my internet is faulty, which isn't true, every other app works fine. I've tried different internet connections, resetted my phone, updated the app. Nothing works. The icing on the cake is that when i try to send a message to support through the in-app "Help" option the app says "We couldn't complete your request, try again later".

I actually find the phone app well-designed and easy-to-use. The reason I gave only three stars is that the ButterflyMX hardware leaves much to be desired. The lights are a glaring-bright, harsh white, spoiling the peaceful front of our bldg, & the camera cuts off the faces of visitors who stand too close to the screen. I suggest looking for a less ugly system for your bldg. But if you're stuck with ButterflyMX, at least they have a good phone app.

A. G. u. Jan 6, 2020

The app works well in some instances. Overall I'd say it's broken af. Mostly because calls take a long time to connect. I don't get video calls even though I have them enabled. The homescreen widget doesn't actually unlock the door. The app has sync issues all over the place. It needs some work.

Scr. Mar 19, 2021

Delay between system and App is really bad. We get one notification chime on our devices before everything times out. A mere second to see who's at the door if lucky... By the time delivery drivers can be acknowledged, They've already sent a second request which also times out. We've resorted to just opening the app and swiping the door open once it chimes. Which is no security at all and basically makes the entire system a complete waste of time and money. Sadly, there is no Alexa.

Joh. H. May 6, 2022

For my usage: barely works. And now they've removed their web portal which makes it close to impossible to use.
