Do NOT buy GE light switches. Their app doesn't connect to Google home or anything else. It never functions properly. You have to use their garbage Cync app to control the switches remotely due to Cync not communicating with other apps. Multiple switches in the same room it forces them to be tied together. If you turn off one switch, it turns off all switches in the same room. There is no option to turn this off, you just have to make a separate room for the other switch in the same room.
In the beginning it was fine. Everything worked as it should and was able to schedule light on and off. Hooking up to Alexa was easy as well and worked as it should. ( Fast forward one year) Not sure what update they screwed up but now the app doesn't connect when I open the app the first time. I have to go out and back in multiple times before it will connect. Lights come on and off when they feel like. Alexa not able to find lights. Already cleared cache already. App needs updating NOW!
500 characters is not enough for a decent review. -Adding new lights to your home is an abysmal process. -Sometimes you open the app right next to the light with Bluetooth and wifi on, but they don't appear on the app unless you close and open it a bunch. -Factory resetting the bulbs (which you will have to do sometimes because this app doesn't work) is a very interesting process. +The actual process of using the lights when everything works is pretty simple. Very easy to use when the app works
Works fine for turning off lights and changing color temperature. Other than that the app is very buggy. It gives me an error when I try to change the name of a device, and the scenes are absolutely abysmal. Set my lights to a schedule and it doesn't do anything so I have to change it manually anyway. Also it won't let me delete scenes either. Overall not a great experience, but I like the C by GE lights I bought so that's something.
This is by far one of the worst apps for smart devices that I've used. Had the switch installed for a few months. It would disconnect from Alexa at least once a week. I would log back into the app and it would fix the issue. Then it became completely disconnected. Tried to delete the device (a wired switch). Now the app can't even find the switch. Don't have cell service where I live so wifi is all I have.
This is a terrible app. Why don't the instructions, website, or app itself mention that you can't have wifi connected on the pbone when adding a device?! I spent an hour trying to figure out why the heck I couldn't connect a damn switch. Found the answer on Reddit, of all places. Then, once connected, I went into the app to change a setting, and had to reset Bluetooth before I could connect. These problems are clearly not related to hardware, network, or my phone. Y'all need some QA.
The "Scenes" are absolutely dismal. The early days of this app let you set easy schedules and now you base it on pictures of leaves and snow to determine what your light bulb does? No focus group could have pointed to this. Not enough utility. The current interface doesn't make the use of a light bulb easier. Simple scheduling with on/off, colors, and a little "i" when there's a firmware update. That's all it needs.
If you have hours and hours to jump through hoops and "turn off and on" dozens of times, relogin over and over again, "wait a minute" before you "try again" then rate it a 5. Well, as it turns out, the whole system is unreliable. Assistant thinks the stuff is on when it's off and vice-versa. Unresponsive. Now I get to spend time putting my Atomi stuff back. Jeez. FEIT and Atomi work great. This is a joke. Maybe if they expended resources on technology and software instead of anime style UI...
It works, is solid. Would love it if sunrise & sunset were a time of day option when creating a schedule. Setting the lights to turn off at Sunrise (instead of entering an exact time) would be groovy. My other smart bulbs have this option, but have major connection issues. Please consider this suggestion. Really don't think it would be too hard to implement.
Originally the tall list of available options was almost overwhelming. If you're anything like ME however you organically come to love this app for everything that it offers.. and more! With such "fine-tune" adjustments that can be made on a room-by-room basis... now EVERY room in my home is customized for absolute comfort and convenience. What a amazing and complimentary item that even the most computer illiterate person out there will find no trouble adding this "must have" in their home.
The app doesn't work with Alexa unless you have the expensive add on it's a pain to have multiple people connect to the lights. there's no option to have the lights change like strobe or cycle through colors unless your on the app physically moving the dial. app lags often and takes too long to connect plus it doesn't stay logged in which would be nice if it was my bank account but I don't want to have to enter a password every time I want to change the color of my lights.
once a month or so, the app randomly logs me out and none of my google devices can control my lights anymore. or maybe a single device needs to restart or reconnect to the wifi, once again meaning that none of my devices will respond to Google. it's very frustrating. I plan to upgrade to a more reliable smart lighting system in the near future.
Seems to have a lot of issues. I have it linked through Alexa, on the same network and can't control it the lights I have installed. Also doesn't work unless the Cync app is on actual running. So far, a total waste of time and money Update: 04/12/2022. I deleted one of the bulbs from the app and added it back, that one works now. However; the second bulb has stopped working. I deleted it and in BB the process of saying it back to Cync, now it can't be found. So far total waste of money and time. Don't but then get with else. Trouble with the app, the bulbs and "sync" with Alexa UPDATE: 04.12.2022 (Afternoon) Your link didn't work; but I did find the information you tried to send me. Reset the light bulb, was able to get CYNC to find it. And it worked for about 5 minutes, before it became unresponsive...again. So I say again, stay away, to much of a hassle to try and get them setup, and even when it's done; no guarantee they will work more than once; then you have to set them up again and hope that for some reason the other one doesn't stop working. Switching back to LED 'dumb' bulbs, they work all the time.
Only loads reliably when in the same building as the cameras, which kind of defeats the purpose of them. 9 times out of ten, it will say the cameras are offline if I anywhere else. Can only have one user with admin access. Overall not great. Will definitely go with different cameras/app if we need more or decide to upgrade.
This app is very flakey, I've had many chats and calls with cync and the responses are generally "cue card" responses. I have 2 single pole switches in 2 rooms, when one is online the other goes offline IN THE APP, they continue to work with Google. This CLEARLY indicates the app is it. I've got a blazing fast mesh and the wifi around these switches is so strong your eyes will glow. It's not my network, and probably not the switches, its the app. Might have to change everything to Luton.
Does GE not understand setting a schedule. They call it setting a scene (silliness rightthere) it has start time but no end time doesn't allow for what you actually want to happen. Just horrible and useless. Only thing its remotely useful for is telling Google or Alexa to turn on a light. Returning switch etc asap. Getting an actual useful setup from china go figure
App is not good. Constantly saying I don't have Bluetooth connection to my smart light, therefor the scenes don't work at all and I can't adjust it through my Google home app (where all of my iot things are). Takes a long time to boot up just to turn off my light. I like the light bulb but the app makes the experience very lackluster.
Does not work anymore. After a recent update, the app can not recognize the bulb. I reinstalled the app and now it doesn't locate the device as well. I tried all suggested troubleshooting and no luck. I feel a waste of my money buying the light since I can not do any changes. Update: The factory resetting of the bulb solved the issue had. Thanks for the suggestion and I am updating my review with 5*!
I use the red light as a night light for my 2 yr old daughter. Ive had this bulb for awhile. I was able to leave the light on all night without any problems. Since the latest app update the light now will automatically turn off at night only. My daughter happened to wake up in the dark and was terrified. Ever since, I have not been able to sleep worried my daughter will wake up in the dark again. Sure enough the light will turn off by itself multiple times in the night. I need something reliable
I have already had to redo or reset the dimmer switch I use three times! Edit: I know how to get it running again. You pull out the air gap switch, wait a few seconds and then reset it up. But every update for either my router or your software the mac address changes for the device and Alexa no longer recognizes it. If you want a 5 star review answer this question with out an auto response...
I really like these lights because they make the house or any room look awesome! but if your phone dies and/or forgot to set a timer, your lights are stuck on! gotta get up and start shutting them off like the old days! you know, with your hands and stuff 🤷♀️ Other then that they're great! a few minor glitches with using the app but nothing major.
Update: After weeks of calls and emails with the director of QA and a customer service executive, my issues were resolved mostly. Despite the bonehead reply to this review, I was already using the new app. It caused the problems. Now I can report that we finally have lights working with the app. The UI still needs a lot of help (too easy to turn lights on and off when swiping). The biggest complaint now is the absence of widgets. Please add widgets.
Works okay, bulbs and plugs will work but will constantly get feedback from the Google home that something can't be reached when I command a room to adjust lights, sometimes works, sometimes doesn't. Yet they work individually even though everything is set up correctly. Seriously need to step up the user interface and reliability, otherwise I plan on fully switching to Phillips hue in the near future.
